About Tranquil Dreams

Welcome to my little blog, Tranquil Dreams. If you are interested in something more along creative writing and certain features here from the early years of this blog, you can head over to my newly revamped in 2016 blog, Avenue of Daydreams.  My main focus still stays here but feel free to check it out if that intrigues you.

Why Tranquil Dreams?

Tranquil Dreams comes from the translation of my chinese name.  Life is about dreams and reaching for things that make you happy.  I love to learn about life and staying positive. I hope to keep a blog that’s not only about the random things in life but also having a twist of how even when things aren’t too great, there’s always a positive side to it. After all, everything happens for a reason, n’est-ce pas? My goal is to stay positive!

Essentially, thats what I blog about: my passions, interests and what may potentially fuel my dreams into what may be something more in the future as I work hard to polish my skills 🙂

What to look forward to?

To the new visitors, in 2016, expect to find movie reviews from new and old releases mixed with marathons and film festivals.  There will be cooking and baking: this year’s focus is on healthier choices and more lactose-free and/or gluten-free options. Also, the highlight is the continuation of a creative cupcakes project to liven things up called Baking Through Disney.

Also, you’ll find personal posts on my adventures and some local Montreal events coverage along with travel pieces, Music Obsessions and Pinterest Therapy.  Furthermore, there will be book reviews as I read towards my goal of 20 books for Goodreads’ 2016 Reading Challenge.  This year’s focus is a long term project started in 2015 to read through Classics called The Classics Adventure and special focus on the independent writers and their novels.  The new addition is a focus on movies adapted into movies, however, it is not restricted to those choices.

One change here is that my photography will be limited to Weekly Adventures, event coverage and Travel posts mostly.  The photo challenges from previous years remain on the blog however, the main photography focus will be moved to Avenue of Daydreams. This way, Tranquil Dreams is more of a lifestyle blog whereas the complimentary Avenue of Daydreams is more of a creative outlet.

*Just to add a little disclaimer, Photography, baking, travel will feature my own photos however, all the movie review posters and screenshots along with book covers are found either on Goodreads or Google Images.  If anyone would like me to take it down, please advise me and I will do so.

If you  have any books and/or movies to recommend, please feel free to do so!

  1. Kim, thank you for stopping and following my blog today. I am looking forward to following your increasingly eclectic blog. It has been a couple of years since we have traveled to Montreal but it is a favourite destination.

    Take care,

  3. Kim, your blog covers many of my own interests, so I look forward to your work. I also have a fascination with China and its history and culture, so I hope you will include some info about that if you have anything else to share about your names or other interesting details. I think you are a good writer! And you’ll get even better as you continue to practice.

    • Thanks Julia! You caught this page before it would go through changes to match up to 2013 goals. If you are interested in China history and cutlure, right now, the closest is the Hong Kong trip part. I will try to talk more about that 🙂 Thanks for suggesting it, must appreciated!

Thanks for dropping by! You have a beautiful blog, I’ll be following and exploring it. 🙂

  5. I love the idea behind your blog and the name Tranquil Dreams. I can’t believe you’re going to try to read 30 books this year! I don’t think I could ever do that! I’m too slow a reader. Good luck!

Thanks for following my blog! I really like yours 🙂

    • Thanks Lily! Can’t wait to read more of your posts. The one you wrote at Rara’s blog was awesome stuff!

So far so good for the 30 books goal. I’m reading my 3rd one right now.

If you have any movies or books or even recipe recommendation, go ahead and tell me 🙂 I always welcome more inspiration and direction!

  6. Thanks for the like on my post. Your blog is lovely.

Wish you all the best with your reading challenge. I set only 5 for the entire year, I think that’s all that I can manage 🙂

  9. Lovely bit of diverse blogging here, Kim. A very enjoyable read throughout!

Montreal, huh? I hate to ask such a typical question but… Canadiens supporter? Not into hockey? Curiosity gets the best of me!

  10. Ahh, yes, the words of a true fan. As for hockey, I can’t say that I have the same feelings… But, being a Cincinnati sports fan… I am very familiar with some of the same frustrations.

  13. This is a real nice blog you have here. I like your photos particularly the ones of the aquarium in Burlington, Vermont. I also like your restaurants reviews. Your philosophy of trying to stay positive is a good one. Not always easy at times, but an admirable goal. So, have the leaves come out on the trees in Montreal? My brother lives in Calgary and he is always depressed that it takes so long for the leaves to come out on the trees. He says it isn’t until May when they do. Here in Indiana they usually come out in March, so I was just wondering what it was looking like up there.

    • Thanks! Glad you like it here! Staying positive is hard and thats why blogging has really helped me with that. Burlington was totally awesome! Have you been there before?
My trees are almost completely fully covered with leaves and even my plum tree is blossoming already and the spring flowers are all out. So its looking good 🙂 But we have a warm streak last week which helped a lot!

      • I have been to Vermont, but never to Burlington. The last time I was there was in 1983 and it rained the whole time, so I should try to make it back there sometime because the state has a nice quant beauty to it. Did you ever see the 80’s TV- show ‘Newhart’? That took place there and everytime I think of Vermont I think of that show.
