Music Obsessions [August 2017]

Music Obsessions

And we’re in August!

I survived the incredibly crazy July and while I was out a lot and took a lot of other stuff a little easier on the blog (as you might have realized), I was doing quite a bit of stuff on the side and really having fun discovering new stuff. One of those main things is finding a Chinese singing show called Come Sing With Me where fans can interact with specific stars each week chosen by the show online, like live online karaoke and then the best ones are chosen to go to the show and then selected 3 or 4 are chosen to sing on stage with that artist and then eventually the artist will choose one fan to do a duet with. That is amazing, isn’t it? What I love most is that I can find all the episodes on Youtube so I’ve been catching up on it. While I’m not familiar with mainland China artists for the most part, they do invite Hong Kong and Taiwan singers and those were like a trip back in time to when music was almost the most important part of my life and it got me through some tough(ish) times. This show also introduced me to some cool songs and artists and a part of it will be snippets from that as well as other songs.

Let’s get started!

Kepler – Stefanie Sun

Stefanie Sun is a singer that I love singing to. A lot of her songs were my fave whenever I go to karaoke. It just connects on so many levels. This is a newer one and I’m glad that the song had a snippet that brought this to my attention. Love it!

S.O.S. – Dimash Kudaibergenov

This snippet is from a singing competition run by the same channel that airs the Come Sing With Me. This guy has a phenomenally beautiful voice. He kind of butchers the French and sings the wrong lyrics here in parts but on the Come Sing With Me show, he has improved on all of it. Regardless, I think just the way he can control his voice and the range he has is so great. I can’t wait to see what else he sings in the future. So far we’ve really only heard covers.

好心分手 (Set Me Free) – Candy Lo feat. Leehom Wang

The translation of this is Set Me Free. Now, I love Candy Lo, she’s amazing and I love the texture of her voice. Actually, this is a super cool combination of Mandarin and Cantonese together. I like fun songs like that which mix things up, plus I’m a huge fan of Leehom Wang. Yes, Leehom Wang is a singer before he was an actor. For those interested, he was in Lust, Caution and Blackhat.

Haze – Tessa Violet

I’ve been listening to Tessa Violet for a few years. She’s had some great covers and she’s been singing a lot more original songs and they’ve been all pretty good. I like this one the most so far.

妳太善良 (You’re Too Kind) – Chilam Cheung

One of the singers that I’ve loved since I was like twelve or something is Chilam Cheung. I go back to his songs every once in a while. It was actually through a video  when he was a guest on Come Sing With Me that got be back to listening so I figured that I’d share of his somewhat newer songs that I’ve enjoyed.

Come Sing With Me duet Single for Han Lei

I’ve actually only heard of this singer, Han Lei before but never heard anything until this episode. This duet he does with his fan that he chose is amazing. The fan he chose has an amazing voice and actually matches his song in this duet incredibly well. Plus, this song has beautiful lyrics. I actually had one day that I translated it to my husband. He doesn’t understand Mandarin at all but its just so romantic.

I’ve bombarded you all with enough songs!
Music has been my companion while lining up and writing up reviews the past few weeks!

My Weekly Adventures #43

Yesterday I already did the Mother’s Day recap, you can all head over to check that out HERE if you missed it!

The last two weeks went by in a flash, pretty much like 2017 has been. It hasn’t all been sunshine and rainbows (figuratively and literally), seeing as Montreal had a state of emergency issued over the weekend for the amount of rain we had been getting and flooding in various districts. It was a mess to say the very least. However, this coming week is looking up. We’re supposed to get a ton of sunny days and great weather finally! 🙂

Game Warp & Youtube

Perhaps one of the biggest things to go on in the last two weeks is the move from That Moment In’s Youtube to Game Warp’s own Youtube. It has taken us a year to make this decision but for us, despite having to restart on the subscriber count, its a fresh start. There were many reasons into doing this. We’re still under That Moment In and write our articles under that but as my post HERE explained, it opens up the option for us to make other types of videos. Of course, if you were subscribed over at That Moment In for gaming and didn’t see my notice, head on over to our Youtube HERE and subscribe to not miss out on what’s coming up. We are aiming to have content every day but we are only two people and rely heavily on what we have access too so it might not always be playthroughs on new games however we try the best we can to stay current or at least dive into the indie scene and give devs their space or highlight games that we’ve tried out no matter what they are.

For more info on this, I urge you to click on the link above to read more. I don’t want to be too repetitive for those who have read that post. Game Warp is a ton of fun but if you aren’t into gaming, that’s alright, I’m still here chatting up on everything else that you enjoy! 🙂

Cirque du Soleil –  Volta

Volta

Volta

Two Fridays ago, my girl friends and I had a night out to go to see Cirque du Soleil Volta. I love Cirque du Soleil. Two years ago, I went to go see Kurios. Its probably somewhere on the blog, probably a My Weekly Adventures a while back. We didn’t get really great seats and the story was a little abstract but there were some great stunts. The highlight of the show were the BMX bike stunts and man, it was exhilarating. There was one where it was a gymnast hung in the air by her hair and that was fantastic as well. It was funny and the music was really good, which usually is the highlight of the show. It was rainy but still very fun.

Birthday Bash (not mine)

My friend and their little one along with Mother’s Day was celebrated all together with a bunch of friends at a great restaurant. Here’s all the food on the menu which I or other people had. It was super delicious and it was very fun. Obviously, to respect their privacy, I’m not sharing any pictures with other people whoever, it was a fun Friday night. I was pretty tired however it was nice to go out and chat with other people.

73% Dark Chocolate by Chocolat Favoris

Chocolat Favoris

I’m not sponsored or anything by Chocolats Favoris (wouldn’t that be the dream, right?). However, we went there with a big family gathering over the weekend for chocolate and I found this 73% Dark Chocolate. Oh my goodness, this is just heavenly. I thought 70% chocolate was pretty delish but 73% apparently is the absolute perfection.

  • Double Features

That’s it for this Weekly Adventures!

Game Warp Podcast: Guacamelee: Super Turbo Championship Edition Review (Guest: Drew’s Movie Reviews)

The next episode of Game Warp Podcast is here!

April’s featured game is Guacamelee: Super Turbo Championship Edition chosen by our special guest reviewer joining us, Drew at Drew’s Movie Reviews. You may know him for his cool features like his trailers on Monday and the Wednesday Quotes challenge segments or maybe you know him because he is my co-host for the Ultimate 80s and 90s Blogathon from this and last year. Whatever it is, believe it or not, Drew may be partially responsible for me actually getting back into the gaming world more. Plus, while he does play very different genres of games than I do, he is quite the avid gamer behind the scenes of his movie reviews blog.

Guacamelee!, developed by DrinkBox Studios, is a Metroidvania-style game set in a Mexican background as a simple man is turned into a luchador to save el Presidente’s daughter (who he likes) from the evil clutches of Calaca, a man who sold his soul to the devil with a vengeance. Listen here as we chat about the story, game mechanics and characters!

Its been a bit busy so…

Yay..to last minute posts!

I have half of post ready that was supposed to go up today. I’m not too confident I’ll be able to wrap it up. Between now three days behind on NaNoWriMo and the deadline just over a week left, I’ve been powering most of my energy for it. And well, there’s been editing duties to take care of the last few nights, which I totally love doing.

With that said, I feel like I’ve been slacking off a little, even if I really am not. So here’s a few things I watched that have helped me de-stress a little.

Team Edge is so awesome! I usually have a lot of fun watching their challenges.

I’m not quite the fan of VR just yet but Until Dawn: Rush of Blood looks intense and watching people get scared is in general pretty funny. Maybe my humor is a little warped.

And finally..for some shameless self promotion, kinda. When I’m not writing or editing, this is what I’m working on…trying out new recording software for mobile games.

Its short and not super interesting, I guess. But I  needed a pass for today. Hope you enjoyed the vids! 🙂

Normal posts should come back tomorrow! Sorry again.
