Christmas Decorations 2017

Its almost a tradition now to start off the holiday marathon with my Christmas decorations. There’s always a bit of the same and still manage to get some changes in there. If you’ve seen the previous one (and actually remember it), then there will be something new still. Christmas is a big deal at our place especially with my husband and his family so in our 9+ years together from dating to marriage, its been a huge part of our life and honestly, one of the most exciting times of the year when we do get to decorate. At the point of this going up, we still have some possibly outdoor decoration to put up but not sure when that is happening as outdoorsy wires and rigs are up to my husband and he hasn’t found the time just yet. Its our turn to host the family party this year so I’m guessing it will happen.

Let’s go!

Bay Window Lights

It seems fitting to look at the display for the outside. Our bay window lights haven’t changed using a layer of white and blue lights. My poinsettia has been the same for the last three years. Its a little sad but I’m hoping it’ll turn red soon. You can’t see it here but I ended up adding in a garland to line the bottom of the window and putting a candy cane decoration on the top.

On top of the stairs

One of our new purchases this year from Michael’s are somewhat rustic which matches our dining room ceiling that extends over our stairs. Its little people hanging on in their winter getup on some rustic string.

I can’t remember where I put this reindeer last year but I think it was in the den. This year we took away the candle and put it here by the shoe rack drawer by the front door.

On top of the piano are these singing chipmunks that when pressed sing Up on the Rooftop. On its side is a little gift from Starry Traveler which was a little puzzle and I put it together and decided to use it as display instead of ornament this year.

Our new wreath this year that I put together is with a empty wreath and wrapping around a garland of white poinsettia, adding in three elves, one little santa, two tricolor berries along with a bell ornament that I used to put on the tree but fills as a ribbon. There are some pine scented Scentsicles buried in it.

Dining Table Decoration

The santa here was bought this year as a possible tree topper but we decided to use it as a dining table decoration with some white beads as the bottom. The candle holder on the side is also a new purchase and used for the table decoration. We don’t have a big table so these items will move when we have the party.

Moving into the den, we have a little berries display with some IKEA shards in the vase to keep it in place. I have a red snowflake candle holder along with a little Merry and Bright panel.

Wreath

On the other side by the closet door is the first wreath I made for the house. I added in some new Scentsicles. I couldn’t find the berry ones so I also used pine for this one as well.

Moving over to the office, I used to only have one strand of light on the bookcase but we found another smaller one so I connected it up and draped it over the new art I had put up this year. I love it as it keeps me in a great mood and motivated to get work done.

FINALLY…

To wrap things up, the christmas tree! We’ve had the same one as the last few years. Its a 7 foot Christmas tree from Costco. This year, we have the colored lights and then after a very painful hour, I managed to strand a shorter but brighter strand of LED colored lights around the middle. We didn’t get any new ornaments this year but did keep it between the fun and fancy ones and held off on some of the solid color ball ornaments.

That’s mostly it for this year’s Christmas decorations!
What do you think?

Today’s snow calmed down.  Took a little break from shoveling  snow and took a picture down my street.

The street lights stood out really nicely!

Doesn’t this look so festive? Branches and red ribbon decorations…I thought it had a really nice vibe. This was just at my front door.

Hope you like it! I promise this is the last post for today, its already the 4th.

Can’t wait to see what the next A Word A Week Challenge is.

My Christmas Decorations are UP!!

**Note: If anyone caught this before multiple times, I apologize, the tablet was giving me a hard time with the pictures and the video.  It should be all fixed now.**

Christmas used to be a lot more festive and then there were a few low season years when we didn’t even own a Christmas tree.

For the last few years, Christmas has been a lot more fun since my boyfriend has a lot of family here so we have a big gathering including my mom and me and his sister’s in-laws family. It gets quite fun.  We usually do the whole Christmas eve celebrations. My boyfriend’s dad actually is the most festive of all.  He has a collection of Santa Claus and some move and sing different tunes.  The last few years,  I’ve given him penguins and an elf for decor as well.  The lights are lit and then the Christmas trees are put up.

Check out both of our Christmas decorations!

These pictures are taken with my tablet, so hope the quality isn’t too bad.

This beautiful tree is my future in laws. Isn’t it absolutely beautiful? You see that ladder with Santa on it? That Santa can climb up and down the ladder. I find that extremely cool.

This Christmas village is placed at the foot of his Christmas tree. That’s all I have of his for now. If I get some videos of his Santa collection, I will post it up later.

This is the elf decoration that we both have. This blue one is mine, and he has the green one. It moves but unfortunately, I haven’t gone to get batteries for it just yet. It’s actually really cute because it moves like a busy elf running around.

My moms favorite addition is poinsettias. The second day she came back home from her trip and she already had bought it. Even before all the other stuff was put up.

When all of our relatives moved away, we gave away our big Christmas tree. The year after, I couldnt handle it and went out to get this small tree lit with colorful LED lights that change colours. Unfortunatly its hard to capture it, but I did add a candy star on the top and little cute decorations. As for that circular ornament, I made that two years ago at a cookie swap. It’s the only one that survived my cat’s paws.

And to end things, one of my favorite decorations with a little video, also with my tablet so please the shaky hands.

Is your Christmas decor up? A lot more festive? Do you buy a real Christmas tree?

Weekly Photo Challenge: Green

Whenever we do colour challenges, the choices are endless. On this trip, I went hiking, went to gardens, and visited parks. I really don’t have much to say hut here, I will present a selection of GREEN from Hong Kong.

Here is one of the most popular trees in Hong Kong. You can find them in parks and hiking trails.

This is one of the coral reefs grown in Ocean Park in the Aquarium. This part is a new addition in the Park within the last two years.

Coming out of the Amazing Asia adventure area, we go into ten goldfish area and here we see big pots of water with beautiful lotus.

Also in the Ocean Park, we went to the hilltop area of the park where we saw another new section called Rainforest Adventure.

This is one of the many highlights of the Ocean Park to me and we made it just in time to see it before the exhibit closed. This represents a JellyFish Kaleidoscope.

I’ll be posting a post or more on the park as there are many nice areas with beautiful discoveries and it’s always the place a like to visit whenever I go visit Hong Kong.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Near and Far

Near and far gives me the impression of contrast of the two different focal points framed in a picture.  It could be anything.

In 2010, I went apple-picking with my boyfriend and his family and these are a few shots I took that make me think near and far…

Its apple picking season again! When we go looking for apples, we always look near and see the apples in the trees.

In the background, who gives notice to the apples that have already fallen from afar.

Near is the rows and rows of apple trees.  Far away we can see the backdrop of beautiful scenery with mountains and farmlands.

In addition, many times near and far also gives me the impression of an elongating scenery.  One where there is a line to follow into the horizon and ends off introducing another aspect.

Just exactly like when we follow a shoreline (or a path, a trail, etc) and it drops into the distance and turns into forests or just drops off and meets with the body of water.

On a side note, anyone craving a walk on the beach or an apple-picking day? I know I do!
