I said that I’d have a gameplan to get back into the working out habit. We’ll just have to see how it goes. To be honest, I’m actually approaching this segment a little different this time so I have no idea what happens after this point as the working out hasn’t happened yet. You’ll be as surprised as me when we get to how much (or how little) that I’ve worked.
Week 1
Wednesday: Zumba
Sunday: Weight Training
Getting in a late evening workout does feel good. While I was about to do another Zumba session, I remembered my game plan and went with doing some weights/body weights while pairing up two fairly short workouts together but compliment each other well as it works the back muscles and the abs. These are my problematic areas so its my weakest and the most strenuous which is also why I don’t want to jump right back with something really tough.
A light workout since I was having a hard time so to make sure that I could at least do a little something, I went with some quick calisthenics to just feel good about staying active.
Sunday: Heavy Chores
Its not exactly a workout session however, I helped out with putting up a car shelter for my mom and then did a bunch of garden work to get rid of the containers full of heavy wet soil to finish up the winter prep work to close the garden. Its not exactly a workout but they were both very active. It included a lot of walking and lifting and moving about that I actually had some muscle pain afterwards so I decided to pass up on any further workout.
That’s it for these two weeks of workout! Not perfect but some things just didn’t work out in week 2 so I worked with what I could!
I can finally say that I’m somewhat pleased with how these past two weeks went. I wanted to get workouts in and I worked hard to even find just like 10 to 15 minutes rather than not doing anything at all. I did three workouts in the first week and only two in the second. The last one before done right before this post goes up, but that is because I insisted on getting the minimum two I want to do. Its just making the effort to get it done and when I do accomplish that goal, it makes me happy.
Monday: Short Zumba Session
DreamHack coverage wrap-up took longer than anticipated on Monday following. Its usually the case with fatigue just hitting hard but I wanted to get in a workout so I ended up doing a short one at 11:45pm. Not optimal as it cuts into sleeping time but a 10 minute session is better than nothing, right?
Thursday: Weights & Yoga
I have the worst back muscles ever so I figured out that I’ll do that and it was fairly challenging. Then I went on to do yoga that I haven’t done in a good few months (if not an entire year). Let me tell you that the side planks were so painful. I guess its time to work out the abs more.
Sunday: Hiking
Location: Reserve Naturelle des Montagnes Vertes
Trail: Etang/Decouverte
Distance: 9km
You can check out the details of the hike HERE. Its our first hike after my husband whole health debacle scare. We’re hoping to get another hike in but we are still waiting on some results and also on medication to hopefully fix the issue. We’re still keeping it rather gentle.
Wednesday: Zumba
Nothing like a session of Zumba to keep things happy and light. The week was fairly ridiculous and stupid on all levels so my stress level was really high. Zumba is my go-to destressing thing.
Sunday: Calisthenics/Weight Training
A final workout before we wrap up this week! I asked my husband who helps me out with figuring out workout stuff a lot to just give me different sets to do. This is what he came up with it.
3 rounds of each set
Set 1
Push ups x12
Bent Over Rows – 5lbs each hand x20
Set 2 (15 reps)
Overhead Extensions
Bicep Curls
Set 3 (12 reps) – 5lbs each hand
Lateral Raises (dropped in 3rd round)
Front Raise
Reverse Flies
Set 4 (15 reps)
Squats
Survived that one! Lateral raises are my death usually so it wasn’t surprising that my shoulder starting to hurt so I stopped that in the 3rd round and just did front raises and reverse flies (is that how you spell it?). Either way, it felt good to get back to weight training and slight calisthenics.
That wraps up these last two weeks!
Goals for the next two weeks? Get in some ab workouts. Maybe go for a jog if it doesn’t get really cold.
Keep up the 2 workouts minimum per week!
Four weeks in and its already starting to feel like things are going downhill quick a la slippery slope style.
With that said, I had anticipated that it may be a lull this week. Its not really an excuse but I had another cavity filling session that I had mentioned previously in my Weekly Adventures and the whole numbing my jaw thing really knocks out my motivation and makes me feel all loopy.
Still, lets just see how it went down.
Monday
Rest & Recording
For those of you who know, I co-host two podcasts and one of them had our biggest episode yet with the sheer material to cover today. Nothing like a 2 hour recording session to push back the entire evening schedule. It was a fun show and if its already released, I’ll have the link right under here.
Tuesday
Another rest day (unfortunately) due to cavity filling after work and then hours for the anesthesia to wear off.
Wednesday
Booty (2 rounds of 20 reps)
Single Leg Deadlift (each side)
Weighted Sumo Squat
Single Leg Squat + Kick (each side)
Side Plank Lateral Lifts (each side)
Inner Thigh Openers
Thursday
So many rest days this week.
Friday
Legs (1 rounds of 20 reps)
Stationary Lunge (each side)
Squat Up Downs
Side Lunge (each side)
Side Plank Inner Thigh Lifts (each side)
Tuck Jumps
Saturday
A beautiful weekend brought in a little landscaping in the garden. It took both time and a lot of strength to get it all done so skipped on the actual working out for garden labor. Gardening update tomorrow and you’ll see it all!
Sunday
Hiking is official back tentatively every other week meaning this Sunday was a hiking day. We headed out to Parc Regional Mont-Ham and the post is coming up soon once I sort through the pictures and put them together.
Hike was 6.9 kms in total and took us 4 hours to go up and down. This is a pretty intensive hike as there is a lot of rock climbing and steep uphills. However, you will see in the post that is coming up in a day or two that it actually takes you to the summit with a cross planted there and its a true 360 degree view. Worth all the energy and hard work! 🙂
Thats it for this week! I’m starting to stray from the Tone It Up Bikini Series a little. However, life does take priority sometimes especially for my own well-being (even if its not physical exercise). Next week is less crazy hopefully so I should be able to get back to running as long as it doesn’t rain everyday.
Week 3 is among us! So far so good, I would have to say that! This week is going to be trying to find some more of the groove. I’d have to say that the first month of establishing the workout routine is probably the most tiring and a lot of juggling around with other commitments. Once the schedule and routine solidifies, its a lot easier to work with it. Of course, that is to say that, I do diverge away from the TIU Bikini Series routine every once in a while for things that I’m working on that day. For myself, I think its fine. If I can, I’ll do the whole thing, if not, at least I’m using it as the body weights and weight training portion since that is the portion I struggle to figure out a routine most of the time.
Week 3
Monday
The First Hike of 2018
Mont Megantic National Park – Le Mont Megantic Trail – full loop 10.7 kms (Recap)
With my husband’s schedule going back to normal, we are determined to go hiking much more frequently then previous years. Our first hike, after much debate, was to Mont Megantic. Its a pretty cool spot. We ended up doing the intermediate trail Le Mont-Megantic but I’d say we did about 10 kms total as we didn’t go up the final slope to the observatory but rather only the first viewpoint. It was a pretty tough trail to start the season though. However, the view is gorgeous and it would be a lovely experience to go during its observatory festival about space and such. The trail is lined with streams on both sides and the path is quite rugged. We actually still had snow for parts of the trail. Anyways, I’ll have a post for it going up.
Tuesday Booty 5 Toning Moves (2 rounds of 15 reps)
This was supposed to be 3 rounds of 15 reps however the hike yesterday was pretty tough so I cut one round.
Wednesday
15 minutes walk/run scheduled = pushed to Thursday
Total Body
2 rounds of 15 reps (supposed to be 3 rounds; cut the last round as my knees were having some weird pain)
Squat + Press
Reverse Lunge + Curl (each side)
Single Leg Deadlift + Row (each side)
Bikini Walkout + Plank Jack
Shoulder Tap (each side)
Thursday
15 mins walk today in the form of an after work errand that I had to run.
Had a few other errands to run so ended up running out time to do a workout. Planning to combine it with Friday’s 5 moves to do a super-sized workout.
Friday
[Thursday’s workout] Cardio + Abs (2 rounds of 15 reps)
Squat Jacks
High Knees (30 seconds)
Mountain Climbers (each side)
Down Dog + Spiderwoman (each side)
Bicycles (each side)
Saturday
With heading out of town to Ottawa and having to come back to do some bits of catch-up on my to-do list, I didn’t end up getting a workout done.
Sunday
[Saturday’s workout] Abs (2 rounds of 15 reps)
V-Sit Crunch
Toe Touch
Plank Up Down
Side Plank Hip Dip (each side)
Rock the Boat (each side)
Cardio HIIT (3 rounds of 15 reps)
Skaters (each side)
Booty Kicks (each side)
Jump Squat
Burpee/Pushup (mod to first round of burpees and second round of pushups)
Plank Jack
Overall…
This week has been a tough one! The hiking on Monday wiped me out quite a bit and the recuperation took some time. I ended up not actually doing the 3 rounds of 15 reps at all. I didn’t end up running either. It was slightly disappointing but through all the fatigue from the hike, I still pushed myself to do at least 2/3 of the workout as much as I could, and if I didn’t, I did a lot of extra walking for whatever errands and such. Its not great but it was going to happen. Next week, I’ll be back on track, I promise!
Hello everyone! Week 2 is here! I’m actually updating as I go along every day so its becoming a really nice journal log that you all get to see at the end of the week when I finish the Sunday workout during cooldown. A pretty nice cool down (after stretches), I’d say. Its been only one week and maybe its the mindset that I’m being more active than I had been so its putting me in a much more positive mood about everything.
If you didn’t catch my first week for this segment revival, you can find it here.
Tone It Up Bikini Series goes on for 8 weeks from what I remember so we are heading into Week 2. As I do these workouts, I’m also making sure to start building up the routine for next month so that I won’t stop although I’m debating whether to stick with a regular month of Tone It Up for fun and see how that goes. Less rambling this time and let’s start Week 2!
Bikini Series – Week 2
Monday
Booty (2 rounds of 25 reps/move)
Bridge Openers
Down Dog Booty Lifts (each side)
Squat Up-Downs (each side)
Booty Band Shuffle (each side)
Standing Booty Lifts (each side)
Tuesday Arms & Abs Rest Day
2.3 km walk at lunch
I know how this routine is supposed to be a hardcore 8 weeks thing but seeing as I haven’t worked out a ton and my wrist was starting to hurt from either gardening or some exercise thing, I decided to take the Arms day off just to recuperate and prevent any possible injuries, because that would just make everything worse.
Wednesday
Run: 23:53 mins for 3.97km
I did a little longer run. Ended up skipping the 5 toning moves.
Thursday Abs (2 round of 25 reps)
Ball Rollout Equipment issues, changed to Push-ups
Mountain Climbers Ball Pike Equipment issues, changed to Oblique Twists
V-Sit Crunch
Toe Touch
Plank Jack
Bicycles
Knee to Elbow Crunch (each side)
Bicep Curls
Forward to Lateral Raise
Sunday
Rest day! (kind of…)
No 5K run/walk due to resting up for tomorrow’s hiking day trip.
No 5 moves as well as did 4 hours of gardening (gardening update tomorrow).
Overall…
This was a pretty good week. I kept up with a lot of the daily workouts and pushed through the more tired days, which helped to give myself a lot more energy. The running was also really good since I did a good pace that I was happy with. I’m starting to eat healthier as well. Definitely a great second week. I’ll check back next week with another update!
Its been at least 5 years or more since I wrote a Weekly Workout Recap segment. And that really is because the last few years, its been a horribly unhealthy and health ridden days. It killed my motivation and whatnot. I did do a ton of running and zumba in 2015 in preparation for the whole wedding thing. I feel like I did at some point revive the segment trying to get back into the groove of things, but it didn’t last for the above reasons again. Either way, my lack of health and fitness has lately really affected how I feel about myself so weekly updates, WE ARE BACK!
I’m not tracking by the balance and losing weight. My goal is to just feel good about myself and feeling toned and strong. I don’t necessarily feel that how much I weigh will do that, actually I never have, because if I build muscle, I’ll gain weight but it’ll be good weight as opposed to just building more fat. Either way, I’m trying to eat a little cleaner and less processed foods. The past year, I’ve tried to get back into the groove of things with my sheer desire and wanted to create my own little workout thing and the indecisiveness made it just take too long to start and then too late to begin without sacrificing the little sleep that I get. Then I tried to just keep to a schedule but things always got in the way, finally went back to my go to with the Nike Training program and I just couldn’t stay motivated, mostly because the workouts felt like they were out of my league and then I’d be in too much pain to do the next one in the schedule without risking injury.
Anyways, its already a pretty long story but point is, back then, I started out being super motivated when I did some Pumps and Iron or Tone It Up workout so I’m going back to where I had started and trying to complete the Bikini Series for Tone It Up which just started. And to stay accountable, I’ll share the workout progress. If you want to join in, they actually have a TIU app which tracks your fitness goals and has the daily workouts and 5 toning moves that changes every day.
Bikini Series – Week 1
Monday (didn’t jot down the moves so just working with memory for Monday and Tuesday) Arms (2 rounds of 15 reps)
Bicep Curls
Shoulder Pulses
Reverse Flyes
Squat Presses
–can’t remember what the last thing is–
Didn’t have time for 5 Toning Moves
Ended up doing a 1.5 km walk at lunch
Thursday Total Body (2 rounds of 15 reps)
Walk 2.5 km at lunch
Single-Leg Deadlift (each side)
Weighted Chop (each side)
Side Plank Crunch (each side)
Plank Row (each side)
High Knees (30 seconds)
Pushing through my own lack of motivation and got a late quick workout in despite getting home late from the dentist and having a late dinner. The small triumphs are what builds habits in my mind. 🙂
Friday Yoga and Abs (2 rounds of 15 reps)
Bikini Walkout + Plank Jack
Shoulder Taps (each side)
V-Sit
Rock the Boat (each side)
Seated Side Opener (30 seconds each side)
Saturday HIIT & Abs (2 rounds of 15 reps)

(extra: do 30 seconds mountain climbers after each round)
Sunday
Arms & Cardio
5KM Run & Walk (or as my Nike running app says 4.69km)
Total time: 33:15 mins
This week was a lot of making myself get back into the groove. I don’t think that realistically working seven days a week even if its just 15 minutes sometimes works but I’m going to try my best and also start adding in not only the 5 daily toning moves but also some Tone It Up workouts. Thats the plan for the next 3 weeks until the Bikini Series is done. Week 2 of Bikini Series is out. Check it out HERE. Arms and abs have always been my weakness so those double duty things like walkouts and Down Dog Booty Lifts were the hardest workouts of this week that I needed to really push myself to complete. For the record, I don’t have resistance bands, or I might have them but I can’t remember where it is. So just to not murder myself, I did some of these just normal without the added resistance. I’m pretty happy with just staying on track for week 1.
That’s it for Week 1 recap! It definitely feels both painful and awesome to be working out again. Can’t say that I’m particularly in the groove since most days I still want to just not do it but end up finding some motivation. Let’s keep me accountable! And well, tell me if you are working out to stay fit as well. Let’s encourage each other!
I’ve been a tad on radio silence about my own life after the whole getting sick ordeal. I already don’t have great health so when I get sick, it takes time to get better. And then, work gets busy and I hurt my toe so things have been interesting. Suffice to say, I had to change up my routine that I had worked on in the last month to build but that’s okay. Although not a whole lot went on, there was still a few memorable moments to share.
Of course, there were some frustrations. For one, I mentioned this on Twitter about Netflix changing their whole setup structure. I’m feeling a little conned because I now cannot see what movies will expire. At least they fixed whatever stopped me from seeing my entire list on Netflix. I’m still a little angry at it but they’ve been updating some stuff I like so its made me feel a little less bothered by the whole thing. Not that I’m not displeased. Then I had a Paypal issue that probably was from a phishing email pretending to be from Netflix and that caused some scam on my Paypal account. Thankfully, it will be reversed. Finally, its the whole roof business that my mom’s place has. I’m just not understanding how that company had defected shingles so its ruined before the warranty period and there’s a whole settlement thing but to get it, I need to climb on my roof and walk all over it and take pictures. There was one part that said to count the shingles that were done. Excuse me…I’m not counting every shingle on my roof. Plus, after I send it in, they will still send someone to check it. Then just send the dude in the first place, no? I just don’t understand…
Done with my rant, moving onto the actual Weekly Adventures from the past month! I’m giving you mostly highlights so buckle up and have some fun!! 🙂
1) Running/Training
Being sick and hurting my foot meant that I was off running for 2 weeks. My idea is to not further the injury so that I couldn’t even walk. I think that’s pretty fair 😉 I did do upper body workouts to keep in line with training a little so I didn’t just sit around. And had to put some foam roller and yoga after the first week of recovering when I could. Sitting around all day just meant a lot of hip pain so it helped.
Fortunately 2 weeks ago, I got back into running again with a little 4 mile run which felt tons of good, especially after being on the road to Toronto and then eating a lot so that night I headed to the treadmill at the hotel. It felt pretty great. Then this past week, I went out with one of my girl friends and her husband for a jog/bike thing and did a nice 10km run. My time isn’t great and it was baking hot even at 8:30-9am in the morning. But point is, its the first time I ran my whole run instead of taking brisk walking breaks.
2) Garden update
Some win and losses this month. We had a little issue with the cucumber plant but I soon realized it was because of the heat and not watering it enough. I’ve gone back to the wine bottle watering system to keep it moist while I’m away at work so that when I get home, I get take care of it. Same goes for the raspberry plant. Strawberry plant is extremely abundant BUT the little bunny has a really nice eating schedule and just nibble them away whenever they get anything close to ripe. And its just cute as a button that I don’t really get that mad anymore…
Strawberry Plant
Raspberry plant
Cucumber
Romaine Lettuce
Flowers!!
Second round of romaine lettuce is coming out. The iceberg ones aren’t quite growing again. I think we need to figure out the way to harvest it properly. Two out of six regrew a second round while 5 out of 6 is growing again for romaine.
My pink and white flowers are growing but thats really just a guideline when they did the seeds because there’s yellow and purple flowers also. I don’t really mind. They are super nice.
Aside from that, I spent Quebec’s birthday gardening like a crazy lady and the weekend before last pulling weeds and trimming ferns and fixing up the garden beds and they are ALL DONE! Sure, its just maintenance now but its a whole lot nicer than before.
How are your gardens doing?
3) Toronto/Gatineau Weekend Getaway
On the last weekend of June, the fiance and I went off for our weekend getaway to Toronto. It wasn’t exactly super planned and we just did a lot of practical shopping like we needed to get him new glasses. I had already gotten mine last month and I don’t even think I had posted a picture of it. I mean, we went to Canadian Tire to get car parts. Like I said, practical. We did make a little trip to Vaughan Mills to do a little shopping.
Make your own Minions at the Build a Bear Workshop in Vaughan Mills
Other than stocking up on Teavana and getting some yellow tea, which I have yet to try, the best buy was going to Disney outlet and finding the last Miss Bunny plush toy to add to my collection and on sale!! You should’ve seen me! I was this short girl frantically waving my fiance over to grab it from the shelf because I couldn’t reach it. It was pretty funny…and probably embarrassing, but I didn’t really care 😉
Casino Lac-Leamy
Aside from that, we took a little ending thing to redeem our voucher that was going to expire at the Casino Lac-Leamy in Gatineau for one of the restaurants called Banco Bistro. I’m going to do a recap on the 3 restaurants we tried on this trip. Probably in one post. Since I still have a ton of Seattle and Alaska ones to do.
4) Starting Zumba classes
One of the reasons my running has somewhat slowed down is also that, I started Zumba classes with my girl friend (that I did the run with). We got a sweet Groupon deal for $30 for 10 classes within a month. Its pretty close to home and so far, after these two weeks, we’ve tried out 3 instructors and we’re having a lot of fun.
Zumba is really feel-good, full of cardio and dynamic body weights of some sort. Its energetic and can get pretty intense. My only issue is that my body doesn’t function that way in like the whole shaking your chest and moving my hips…questions marks float around my head. Haha! Still, I’m slowly picking up these routines and its a ton of fun! We’re definitely thinking of continuing to do this.
Have you done Zumba?
5) Our first hike this year: Mont St-Hilaire
The weekend before last, we took an afternoon and went to do our first hike. We were supposed to go off to Quebec City area to visit a garden but other priorities took over in the morning and we ended up heading out in the afternoon to Mont St-Hilaire and catching a nice hike up one of the trails.
Mont St-Hilaire
The view was awesome and while there was a good bit of people going, it was pretty spaced out so there was never a lot of traffic and we got to enjoy the peace and quiet in the nature.
Chipmunks and toads were our main companions 😉
6) Festival season in Montreal!
Francofolies and Jazz Festival both came and left the city. We just stepped into Just For Laughs Festival and the last weekend was the Percussions Festival.
Percussions Festival
We met up with some friends and checked out both of these events. The main highlight for us in Just For Laughs Festival was the food trucks.
1st truck: Lucille’s
My dinner: Lobster Roll ($16)
2nd truck: Le Smoking BBQ & Ribs Poutine
3rd Truck: Zoe’s
Fries & Watermelon Lemonade
Last stop: (not a truck) Havre-aux-glaces with Raspberry & Strawberry Sorbet
I’ve only tried one before so we were down to try some delicious food and we definitely did. There wasn’t a lot of food trucks, at least not much I could eat from because of food allergies but the ones I tried were great.
Any festivals hitting where you are?
7) Fantasia Festival 2015 begins TODAY!
Following right along that topic up there, Fantasia International Film Festival starts today! I’m not heading over for any movies today but the advanced screening of Ant-man is probably the highlight to kick off the festival. I didn’t even want to bother with getting tickets since last year’s Guardians of the Galaxy ran out in a second.
I posted up my list on Saturday after getting the tickets. If you missed it, check out the run down HERE! I’m still on the fence about two movies which show at the same time (Synchronicity and Momentum) so I might just take a day off in general for that one. I’m pretty pleased with the line up. Head over there and tell me what you think. There’s a ton of horror and I’m sure all of you have better insight than I do for that genre 🙂 I do have to head over to pick up my tickets today so I’ll see how everything is.
As for posts, I hope to get reviews up within 2 days after I see it. It might change since some are late showings and I’d get home late especially on week nights when I need to prepare for work the next morning. If you aren’t here for movies, I’ll try to keep a good bit of variety going on here. I’ve gotten back in cooking and baking so hopefully more recipes and all those backlogged posts need to go up.
Anyone else going to Fantasia?
8) Upcoming….
Seattle Day 2
Fantasia Film reviews
Toronto/Gatineau food
Baking and Foods (recipes)
And to wrap it all up, a song that I’m totally obsessed with. Its just so happy!! 🙂
Welcome to another My Weekly Adventures! I promised you fun among other things that I haven’t gotten done yet but lots of great stuff on the way, all in time (when I find time…)
Lets start with the little things which make up a good part of my spring life! Spring is ending and summer is around the corner, lets hope Montreal weather got the memo. Its a little bit more random this week but still, ENJOY!!
1) Flowers & Gardening
A few new blossoms in the garden. Rain has been increasingly abundant and the weather’s warming up gradually so it really helps.
Columbine/Crimson Star
It actually helps a lot. Its raining right now as I type this up but my lettuce from last week is about double the size or triple just because of 3 days of rain so we’ll be harvesting it this weekend to eat 🙂
Next mission, after getting eaten alive and the last project for container gardening this year: Mosquite repellant container. That helped a lot last year so I’m hopefully going to get that done soon if I find the plants I need. Aside from that, I’m still debating if its too late to start my zucchini plants. I probably should but I don’t know. I’ll give myself till the weekend to figure that out.
Are you gardening? Any blossoms or harvests yet?
2) Week 2 of Training for 10K Marathon
Running distance is getting longer. I have a perfect route that I found after getting lost and making a wrong turn that actually gave me a perfect 5 mile run. Believe me, walking is the hard part but then I walk a lot already so I just walk more briskly than usual. And cross training last week was this workout.
Its not exactly the 45-60 minutes they ask for in the program but I try to push myself a little harder. Fitsugar/Popsugar Fitness workouts are never easy, not even the beginner ones. Those are just a little less intense but they are still quite demanding but thats also why its really effective and I love them so much! 🙂
Have you ran a marathon? Are you training?
3) Grand Prix Formula 1 Weekend
Last year, I left for Hong Kong the week before Formula 1 weekend which also marked the first year in whatever years that I hadn’t gone to at least walk through the events in downtown. This year I went back with some friends. There were some nice cars and tons of people. Its was a little drizzly and humid but overall, it was fun because of good company. I’m only showing a few of the more “rare” cars or the ones I like at least.
Oculus Rift and Racing Games
Tesla
Lamborghini
Maserati
There were a few things I wanted to point out. For one, that Maserati is super sexy and that green one up there. I don’t remember the make of that one. Second, they had a racing game with Oculus Rift and since I’ve been all about gaming videos, it made me super excited to see it. I can see this as something I’d want to have. But then, its crazy expensive so it won’t be something in the near future. Third, we had a chat with one of the car owners of the Tesla and he was super nice. One of those cars actually has another set of seats in the “trunk” facing behind and he did that for his kids, turning his 5 seat sedan to a 7 seat. Goes to show that if you have the money for it, you can have a family car and not have to drive a minivan 😉
4) Baby visit!
On the first day that I left for Alaska, that night at 2 am, one of my childhood friends water broke and had her baby like 17 hours later. Her little daughter dodged being a Jedi but props to the doctor for having one day off on the delivery date. Anyways, after getting everything done, we found time to hang out the past weekend.
My cat’s thoughts, “What is this?”
But this little one just stole my heart and that little bundle was smaller than my cat but managed to scare my cat away. Haha! That was as close as she got before running away.
Did I ever tell you that I’m super nervous around babies? So after a good bit of the night, I finally picked up my courage and held this little girl and she is a sweetheart.
Just look at her posing for the camera? Isn’t that just the cutest?
5) Discover: An awesome trailer for an indie film I want to see
Anyone here follows Wong Fu Productions on YouTube? I sporadically share their videos but the crew there along with some bigger name stars just put together a film called Everything Before Us and had their premiere last week some time I think. Either way, that trailer looks fantastic. Not to mention that I’m a fan of Aaron Yoo and one of the younger main characters played by Brandon Soo Hoo who is also in From Dusk Till Dawn series which I just saw. And the guy from The Maze Runner, Ki Hong Lee is in it also.
Anyways, it looks awesome and I’m going to buy it soon and give it a watch 🙂
6) Things on my mind
Next post for Music Obsessions & Baking Through Disney (and actually baking).
What movie to see next in theatres (probably Jurassic World) since I missed a ton of good ones that you all will hate me for…
How to continue my fifty over at my other blog Days Nights and Daydreams. Plus, I need to actually start writing that story I’ve been thinking. I came back from vacation with 3 stories running around my mind.
Should I do a blogathon? I’ve been blogging for over 4 years and I’ve wanted to do this but just no truly original ideas yet. I’ll figure it out this summer…hopefully.
Still..how to structure the vacation posts. I might just work on it and hope for the best. Its been hanging around for too long.
That’s it for this week! Its a little late but hope you enjoyed! 🙂
My Weekly Adventures (just like travel and vacation) will be a seasonal segment 😉 I go out a whole lot more in the summer as Montreal livens up a lot and has a ton of events. This year, May’s been a whirlwind so to kick this off is a special month long event of May along with some upcoming things you can expect. Reason for this is that: I know I’ve been taking it easy on here. I really needed a break to get my thoughts together and find some energy and motivation. Between moving and house stuff, its been quite hectic. Plus, I’ve been in and out of town during May. I haven’t spent one weekend at home. The fact that I’ve had even 5 posts going up scheduled (and that’s massively thanks to all those late nights doing contributions to other blogathons and segments on other awesome and amazing blogs).
Let’s check out the May insanity!!
1) Vacation to Seattle and Alaska
Our cruise ship parked offshore in Icy Point Strait
I did a post back at the end of April or early May before I headed off to vacation so some of you already know about it. My first cruise ever and after 11 days, over 2200 pictures from the trip. I’m going to be posting about those gradually over June but not last past vacations where I do a daily recap. That would be a massive post and I’ll only select the best of the best that represent the places I went to. I’ll also give a cruise recap on how I felt about this cruising experience on Norwegian and I have a little fun addition that I’m putting together in memory of the new acquaintances I had on the trip.
2) Ottawa Marathon Weekend
No, no! I didn’t do a marathon. Just like last year, I headed down with my friend who did the half marathon. This time, we also had a friend do the 10K so we hung out, shopped, ate and all that good stuff. It was pretty fun 🙂 We ate brunch at a place called Zak’s Diner which is rather delicious.
And due to strict budget after vacation, I went down to get some really good Rose Wines and a ridiculously expensive but I know is worth it sports bra at Victoria’s Secret. That’s pretty much what it was all about. I also got exposed to the 7 day TV event called 500 Questions and because I’m a nerd, I loved it. I’ll probably do a review of it since I came home and started tracking the episodes the week after.
3) Officially training for a 10K marathon!
I haven’t posted about workouts in a while. Ever since I talked about it a few months ago, I have gotten back into it and if the cruise was not only full of breathtaking sceneries, my downtime included a lot of working out. Going out to the marathon weekend, the night after, I downloaded the Nike Running app and set up the coaching program to train for a 10K. I’m not a runner so I’m ridiculously slow in pace. I only completed my first week and it looks like that up there. I’m on my second week right now and Montreal is having really shitty weather so its not exactly motivating but then, when I have these programs, I get really competitive. If weekly adventures doesn’t have anything else, it’ll be where I’ll be updating you on my progress.
The goal right now: 5K of some sort somewhere around Montreal and then end goal is 10K in Ottawa next year with a decent time.
Bring it on!!!
4) Wedding in Toronto
As exhausting as it was, my niece (don’t ask, I have a enormous and complicated family) got married over the weekend. I’ve never seen her before but family events are always fun, so I was my mom’s +1. On top of that, I had to go to get some new glasses because its way more worth it even with the gas prices being ridiculously high. It actually felt good to be the one in control of my own transportation in the past month. Anyways, the wedding was held in Markham at Angus Glen Golf Club and the venue was very nice along with some very good food. It started off up to the ceremony in a massive downpour but eventually cleared up a little before having a little drizzle again.
Other than seeing family and cousins, it really emphasized on seeing my cousin’s kids so yeah, more nephews mostly. Haha! I’m definitely starting to feel old. Still, it was a very fun time and that’s what is most important.
5) Gardening begins!!
Iceberg & Romaine Lettuce
Leek
Stevia
Pink and White Flowers Mix
Asparagus
Ground Cherry
Cucumber
Right after I got back from Alaska, I went to the greenhouse that I frequent and bought some gardening. Sowing seeds are not my forte so maybe that’s an adventure I’ll take some time to master. For now, we got these ones up there along with some Sweet Basil, Rosemary and Greek Oregano which is happily inside the house. My calla lily is also very good. I’ll have pictures of those next time 😉 Also, I had to buy another Clematis and Campanula because my lack of experience murdered those last year. This year, I’m giving a second shot at Ground Cherry and Stevia. With a little more experience, I’m hoping it’ll be better.
We’re keeping it simple this year: The focus is on less plants and weeding and organizing/maintaining the lawn to look better so its ready for bigger and better projects next year! I think thats a solid plan. What do you think?
6) Upcoming
TV Binge, Arcade Block Unboxing, Music Obsessions, more Movie Reviews (hopefully)….I have probably 10 posts sitting around waiting for me to write up. I just can’t get it all together and live life all at the same time while not being in town on the weekends when I normally draft the majority of my posts early mornings or late nights. I’m trying hard to get ahead of schedule instead of scrambling together a quick post the night before. It worked for a while where I was 2 days ahead so let’s hope I can get back on that pattern. Oh right, and that recipe I’m missing for the Disney Project is coming right up! It’ll be a lot more simple than I first planned but I just want to kickstart this one. The next one will be more epic, hopefully!
And that wraps up My Weekly Adventures segment for the May monthly issue. For now, I’ll leave you with this cute sign I saw in Ottawa.
If you made it to the end, welcome back to Weekly Adventures and be sure to drop by again next week for more! 🙂
There’s a few festivals coming up this weekend so it’ll be a fun post! I promise!
I took a little bit of time to get this revived mostly because when I do these segments its really to get myself back on track. Its been hard to even find an ounce of time and energy to. The last few weeks I’ve managed to get 2 workouts in. I believe that I’ve gotten myself back into the state of mind.
Winter is coming around. Holidays are around the corner. And a whole lot of sitting inside at home is going to happen since outdoors activities happen once the weather gets cooler and colder.
For a reviving workout, I’ll share a few workouts that I may have already shared but some of you are new here, so it’ll be fresh 🙂
I won’t be doing everyday updates on the weekly but rather just workouts I’ve done. Or some things I join in: campaigns or whatnot.
Its been a few weeks of sporadic working out and I’ve actually revisited a few workouts and tried some new ones. Lets get moving! 🙂
1) Pop Sugar’s 30 minutes Capoeira Workout
2) Pop Sugar’s Do-Anywhere Circuit
3) Tribesports: The Core Workout
4) Pop Sugar Yoga Workout
5) Pop Sugar Fire Up the Core Circuit Workout
I think 5 is enough. Right now, most of these are repeat training ones. I love the Capoeira one but I always get really close to injuring my shoulder so I know that I need to work on that. Strengthening my hamstrings and my shoulders are a must at this stage.
I’m looking at some 30 day challenges right now but can’t decide which yet. I need to get back into the Tribesports community and to get back on track with this working out thing 🙂 So far, I’m balancing between body weights, strength training (with weights), adding some cardio and yoga to balance it all out. Most of my cardio is from either jogging in place or playing DDR (on higher intensity). As you can see, PopSugar is my new fave workout site. It has so many challenging but refreshing workouts. I hold true that I love the circuit workouts. Those ones are fantastic: intense and the next day, your body tells you that it was a good one.
I’m excited to get back into it. Consider this a pre-workout segment. The official first week is right now. Another update on Sunday or Monday (hopefully, regularly)! 🙂
