Unboxing: Arcade Block [July 2015]

Monday was a fantastic day.  Weird to say it about a Monday, right?

Well, I had a really hot weekend, weather-wise that got me a sunburn while eating a lot. I’ll talk about that in another post soon.  Sun and fatigue from running around the festival and everything going on in life kind of crashed and hit me this weekend and my body just wanted to sleep A LOT. So I passed out early at night and woke up a little earlier than normal, got a ton  of stuff done.  Long story short, it was a great weekend that made Monday great, even if we got a crazy thunderstorm.

Because of the thunderstorm that lasted for hours on and off, when I got home from work, my two mystery boxes were at my doorstep, soaked in rain. To make sure there wasn’t any damage, I did the unboxing without my fiance so while I kept the other box as a post (which will be up soon), I did the unboxing for the Arcade Block as a video. Its the first time I did editing on YouTube directly and I haven’t vlogged or made a video in a forever (maybe a few months ago at least), so umm…if its boring, I’m sorry…But I tried and its less than 7 minutes long so its worth it!

Hint: The gear is awesome! 🙂

What did you think of the gear in Arcade Block this month?

Which do you prefer: Unboxing videos or posts like THIS?

I wasn’t planning on posting this up but its kind of a timely thing to post these unboxing ones.  And I’m having quite a traffic jam of posts over here from stuff needing to be written (Festival film reviews) and a ton of other things because I’ve been out late all the time for the Festival. Enjoy!! 🙂

TV Binge: Sherlock (Season 3)

I’m not sure 3 episodes of 80-ish minutes is called binging TV but I have no idea why I didn’t make time to watch Sherlock sooner.  I guess its because I know its going to be another 2 years before the next season comes out.

Last week, I got around to seeing Season 3 of BBC’s Sherlock.

Right when I was just thinking how awesome Season 1 and 2 was and how really, other than Sherlock coming back to life, how could they top that, they did it.

I officially declare that Benedict Cumberbatch is THE BEST Sherlock Holmes EVER! I just love him so much.  That guy can act the pants off at being Sherlock.  He adds this hilarious (and insensitive) touch to him.

Plus, they kind of trick the audience because we never really know whether to believe how he survived jumping off a building.  All the theories was so fun to watch.

And, just Martin Freeman being his partner has this amazing chemistry between the two. Its this unspoken thing.  The whole reveal that Sherlock does to “surprise” Watson is hilarious!  He’s so oblivious of just how crazy this is for everyone else. And Watson’s reactions were priceless…

Its only 3 episodes, about 80 minutes each more or less.  The first brings Sherlock back and kind of links him back into the life of John Watson.  The next episode jumps into the whole John Watson getting married and knowing this Mary Morstan character a little more.  Let me tell you, she does mesh very well because she understands both Watson and Sherlock’s character really well and compliment both of them, which is really awesome.

During this whole time, the cases revolve a big story with a final end game that kind of really takes things into perspective and the finale of Season 3 with a particular character who is manipulative and villainous Charles Augustus Magnussen who has a hold of everyone’s secrets in an underground vault and he reveals a huge secret.  This character is played by Lars Mikkelsen.  I’ve never seen this man in anything else but he was out of control and just OMG! Seriously, thats all I have to say.  When I watched this guy on screen, he made me all psyched out because he was so good at being a villain.

Aside from the villains, a lot of side characters had a lot more place and Sherlock and Mycroft’s family comes into play, making them more humanly 😉 I loved how Molly gets a little more screen time and in somewhat of a awkward way but it works for her character.

Sherlock Season 3 rocked my world.  I don’t believe that anyone can be better at being Sherlock than Benedict Cumberbatch and no one can have a better chemistry in this dream team than him with Martin Freeman’s John Watson.  I totally loved it! 🙂

Now, the wait for 2016 and Season 4!

Have you seen the BBC Sherlock? What do you think of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock and/or Martin Freeman’s John Watson? Which secondary character do you like the most?

Acrostic Name Game

Alex Raphael runs a fantastic blog that you can check out HERE! I haven’t gotten around to do the Alphabet Movie Meme that inspired him to do this little Acrostic Name Game but I had to do this one ASAP.  He’s been an awesome guy who has been dropping  lots of awards that being the ridiculous person I am, I’ve fallen WAY behind on responding.  Seeing as its all those #FF going around, I figured I’d give him a nice shoutout.  He did his on TV shows.  I’m going to do mine on TV and for those that I can’t figure out a show, I chose a movie.  A little mish mash 😉

True Blood

true blood poster

Honorable mention for this would’ve been Top Gear (UK)! I like True Blood a lot. I mean, I binge watched Season 1, suffered through Season 2 and fell in love with Season 3 & 4 then got really weirded out by Season 6.  Thats the general recap  of how I felt about it.  Wait, is there only five seasons now? Anyways, I’m lost but I love it for the vamps and werewolves and sex and nudity.  All that stuff, you know? Eric Northman is hot and Alcide is so handsome.  Not such a huge fan of Sookie but thats okay, it always works out in the end 😉

Robin Hood (2006)

Robin Hood BBC

I haven’t completely finished Robin Hood.  I’m about a few episodes away.  I love BBC series a lot and this one was pretty fun to watch. Its not just the guy who played Robin Hood but it also introduced to me the very handsome Richard Armitage 🙂 When I first saw him, he looked like Bradley Cooper but with a bit more charm. Honestly, I became aware of him because of Ruth over at FlixChatter.

aristocats poster

The Aristocats is one of my favorite Disney movies.  Its fun and energetic and it features lots of cats.  Everybody does want to be a cat, I tell you.  At least I wanted to be one after this.  Maybe thats why I meow occassionally…*ahem* maybe I shouldn’t have said that.  I just went to another level of weird.

New Girl

new girl poster

I’m slightly behind with New Girl but I have a mega girl crush on Zoey Deschanel.  I have a developing love for Jake Johnson and the whole supporting cast is hilarious.  I love this sitcom to bits.  I really should catch up with this season 🙂

quill poster

One of first movies that touched me.  When you give you animals and their bond with their owners and base it on their life (and death), that just tears me apart.  Quill is amazing, touching and so memorable.

Under the Dome

under the dome poster

I cannot wait for Under the Dome to come back this summer.  Last summer, this one really ruled my world.  It has a fabulous actress Rachel Lefevre and as I saw more of her movies, I saw just how awesome she is.  Plus, the guy in this is pretty cool.  The whole story is intense and mysterious.  I haven’t read anything from  Stephen King so I know nothing of this going in. This show is all sorts of amazing!

I‘ll Follow You Down

i`ll follow you down poster

One of the movies I saw in Montreal’s Fantasia Festival.  I hasn’t been released anywhere else but it has an older Haley Joel Osment, Gillian Anderson and Rufus Sewell.  Its a sci-fi/time travel mystery.  I was intrigued by it and gave this a chance and it turned out to be surprisingly good.  The concept was very well thought out.  You can check out the review HERE!

Lie to Me

I’m still baffled as to why this show was cancelled because Tim Roth kicks some serious ass as Cal Lightman with his lie detecting skills. There’s a good chemistry between the characters and I love that they add real life snapshots of well-known public figures emphasize their point in the cases that they investigate.  Despite the serious material, they still get in some  humorous moments to loosen the atmosphere.

dollhouse s1

I only saw this one earlier this year and I ended up buying the two seasons afterwards.  Dollhouse was the first thing that made me acknowledge just how talented Joss Whedon is.  I binge watched this and finished both seasons so fast and I was obsessed with not only Eliza Dushku and Tahmoh Penikett but totally fell in love with Topher played with Fran Kranz.  As much as its about giving people what the clients ask for, it takes a play on the end of the world and the double-edged sword with tampering with God-like technology that manipulates human nature, desires and morals.

Resident Evil

resident evil

Resident Evil and all its movies are my guilty pleasure.  Its simply a fun and entertaining shoot ’em up zombie flick.  I look forward to the new one coming out this year (I think).  Maybe no one anticipates a lot but for me, Alice is my absolute favorite movie character.  I even disguised as her for Halloween two years ago 🙂

elementary tv series

I just realized that I have a lot of new series on here.  Anyways, I like Elementary. It came as a surprise to me because I’m not particularly a huge fan of Lucy Liu but I found her really good.  Plus, the whole Sherlock in New York with Watson turning into a woman modernizes this classic.  For me, it works out good 🙂

August Rush

august rush poster

Music has helped me through a whole lot of stuff and August Rush is one of those movies that touched me.  Maybe not a lot of people like it.  I know my boyfriend didn’t.  There’s just something really magical about the whole story and I can relate to it in some ways.  I actually wrote a post about it a good while back and you can check that out HERE.  I just love the music and everything.

Another series that got cancelled after only one season.  I thought it was a really good one also.  One of the better vampire series I’ve seen at least.  It made me fall in love with Alex O’Loughlin also. Its only one season and I actually think its time to revisit it 🙂

sherlock poster

Another Sherlock Holmes modernized version! As much as I like Elementary, there is something about Benedict Cumberbatch that really makes this one stand out and I like the guy who plays Watson also. I need to start Season 3!

Whew!! That was actually kind of hard to put together. I originally wanted to use just TV series but figured that after Q turned out to be super hard and I modified it to part TV and movies.  Not too bad, right?

Now that I’ve done it! Go ahead and make one of your own! It can be any list as long as its with your blog name! I shared the link up top on the instructions that Alex gives.  Be sure to check out his awesome blog and join into this fun game. I’d love to see what you come up with!

This blog was supposed to go up on Friday but I guess somewhere in the world, some place is still Friday, right? I have some exciting stuff to announce over the next while.  First one will be probably over this weekend since I didn’t get something for today.  Remember to check back, ok?

Getting Better, Stressed and Signed Up (and more)!

I’ve talked about it all week!

Yes, I’m still sick! However, if you don’t know me by now, I always look at the bright side.  Last night, I know I’m getting better because I went through the first night not coughing and slept all the way to the morning, except for the little 2 minute intermission when my cat decided to jump on me then walk over to switch places to sleep. I can pretty much talk again.  I just wished antibiotics worked a little faster.

Earlier this week, I decided to sign up to Netflix. I originally did that because I thought the Secret Santa Review Swap movie, Dark Harbor was there! If you didn’t see that review, you can check that out HERE! I did a little piano cover as well! My discovery of Netflix has been solely watching Sherlock an episode a night or so.  I think I’m almost finished what they have there. And ridiculous as it sounds, I’m watching Magic School Bus.  Although its for children and I know everything they talk about, I still think these shows were awesome! Imagine what recommendations I get now..haha! I do see a few movies I would like to see time is slightly scarce these days!

Now, why is time scarce especially since its the weekend? My deadline! Which is also why this personal post got bumped up because its the easiest thing to write! I just word vomit and do some little updates.  I’ve been silent this week but I will continue to do that.  I did manage to read 300 emails yesterday night.  Only another 300 to go! Oh right, off topic, my deadline is one where I need you all to combine forces and make time go slower, k? Lets make a deal! I need at least 2 more days extra  to actually get everything done on time 😉 I’m going to be doing a lot of overtime and bringing work home and whole deal!

However, I did manage to take out 2 hours this morning.  One was to just sit in bed and relax and guess who joined me? She just soothes me so much!

Down time with my cat! :)

Down time with my cat! 🙂

This makes me feel that I merit two hours off for I’ll Follow You Down at Fantasia Festival.  I’m going to make my final decision this afternoon and if there still are tickets left, I will be booking it.  It looks so awesome and it will be my downtime and alone time. As for the Fantasia Festival! I just flipped and found 2 more movies that I want to see.  Deal is, they are on the same day, different theatre locations, different times.  Maybe I should see both?

First one is Finland production, Imaginaerum! You can check it out HERE!

Second one is US production, 24 Exposures.  There doesn’t seem to be a trailer available anywhere but you can read it about it HERE!

Both seem so good! Yet, I don’t know, maybe I will do the crazy thing and go see both 😉 What do you think? Which one would you prefer?

To end this off, although work has taken over my life, I will see to it that I take my time off to relax and not combust from stress! I do have some drafts to write up: a lingering movie review, photo challenges and maybe a daily post response (once I pick which one to do) and definitely the Weekly writing challenge response, even if I will be a little late! I also plan on finishing Part 2 of the TESL course, pushing my progress forward a little and hopefully finishing some time in August! Maybe even finish up the book I’m reading and write up a book review so that at least I have next Monday to Wednesday’s drafts done since my work rush lasts till then 😉

I promise to be your blogs soon! I will also try my best to leave comments 🙂

Have a great weekend! 🙂 Remember to help me slow down time 😉

Sickness and Catching Up with Sleep (and TV)!

Since I missed my personal post on Sunday because I was sick to death coughing and sneezing all day. I feel like the blog’s been a bit empty, maybe its a good time to share a bit about what has been going on.

For the first time in forever, I took 2 days off of work not for vacation but for sick leave.  Right in between the deadline which I technically don’t have a day to spare.  The stress level is skyrocketing but yesterday, I went on the annoying wait and hunt for the doctor at the walk-in clinic that took me 6 hours to finally get treated from lining up 2 hours in the morning to get my appointment to waiting for the appointment and then sitting at the clinic waiting for the doctor to get in after she was an hour late to arrive.  Oh the world of free healthcare in Canada or maybe its just Quebec’s problem.  Either way, the final diagnosis was that I had an ear infection.  I was sent home with ear drops and antibiotics. YAY! First step to the road of recovery, right? I was disappointed because I ended up missing the Fantasia Fest movie that I wanted to go see, but I was way too sick to go and I shouldn’t go around infecting others. *pats myself on the back*

I was expecting that I would be able to go back to work yesterday but when I woke up, dizziness was all I felt.  I was so tired from those antibiotics fighting its battle or whatever its doing in there, that I had to just sleep.  I called the office with my hoarse and almost vanishing voice and told my coworker that I wouldn’t be able to make it but that I will try to go in to pick up some work if I was feeling a bit better. I did end up eventually doing that after getting 3 more hours of sleep.

Other than getting an immense amount of sleep that both my mom and boyfriend has agreed that I need and probably deserve after the roller coaster of emotions of a weekend (that probably didn’t help my healing from this virus or cold or whatever you would like to call it). I did manage to catch up on TV series.

First up, I caught up with the 2 episodes of Whose Line Is It Anyways? I thought it was pretty good.  Then, I started watching Under the Dome and caught up with the past 4 or 5 episodes.  My mind is a blank as to which one they are at right now but its actually pretty awesome so far.  I really like it. I know a lot of the cast from various movies and TV shows and I’m really interested in seeing how it turns out.

I also started Sherlock from BBC.  I’ve been meaning to watch it for a while and haven’t found the time to.  These are crazy long episodes compared to normal so I’m still watching Season 1. Benedict Cumberbatch is pretty awesome. The guy who plays John is an actor I love as well 🙂

Its probably been one of the most tiring and crazy weekends in ages but at least, things are starting to look up.  I can’t wait to be well and able to talk again like myself again! In the meantime, its a good opportunity to reset some good sleeping habits! 🙂

I have about 400 emails to catch up with and I will tend to that tonight! 🙂 Things should get back to normal soon once I find the energy to write up reviews and figure out the photo challenge 😉

Stay healthy everyone!

What TV series  have you been watching or catching up with?

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011)

I told you I’d be back with a real life movie! I was never a big fan of Robert Downey Jr. until I saw the first Sherlock Holmes. But, I’m a mega huge fan of Jude Law..I think I’ve probably confessed my love for him in a few reviews like The Holiday and Hugo.  I love his voice and his charm.  I don’t think that he’s in the drop dead gorgeous category but his charm gives him so much more.  I really enjoyed the first Sherlock Holmes and that one was a pleasant surprise.  It made me really excited to see the second one..so don’t ask me why it took so long to see it after its release…

sherlock holmes game of shadowsDirector: Guy Ritchie

Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel  McAdams, Noomi Rapace, Jared Harris, Stephen Fry

In this sequel to the 2009 original (I should go back and review that one), Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.)  is now linking a lot of affairs to do with a very smart and evil man called Dr. Moriarty (Jared Harris).  A professor that was revealed to him at the end of the first movie through a woman that his path crosses with a lot called Irene Adler (Rachel McAdams).  This time, Dr. John Watson (Jude Law) is getting ready to be married soon and to stop being his assistant afterwards because of the nature of danger that Holmes is involved in.  Holmes brings Watson out on his stag night and takes his brother (Stephen Fry) also and at this party, he syncs this with going to follow his clues which leads him to eventually saving Sim (Noomi Rapace), a fortune teller and learns about her and her brother’s connections to Moriarty’s plans.  This launche Holmes and Watson to go on at least one more adventure and mystery across different countries as they try to stop Moriarty’s plans from going forward.

I really love Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes.  I’ve never had to debate whether I like him better as Sherlock or as Ironman but the different charisma he can pull off in his role is just so great. He turns into this somewhat comedic ass. He just is that way. He’s going straight up into being in a few of my favorite on screen character.  As much as I like Holmes and Robert Downing Jr.’s version of it, there is really no way I can disregard the chemistry and bromance with Jude Law as Watson.  I love Jude Law to bits (I think I said that up there) and I can’t say it enough. He’s just such an awesome man, not that I’m saying he’s handsome but rather the vibe that he gives (weird, I know).  When Watson and Sherlock are together, you can’t help but to laugh a bit at their odd interactions.  The struggling danger of a professional and personal relationship that will end when one party goes off to get married.

Aside from this, the introduction of Stephen Fry as Holmes brother and Noomi Rapace as the fortune teller/gypsy Simka.  Stephen Fry gave some fun moments here and there and his addition contributed a bit to my enjoyment (only a bit). However, Noomi Rapace has been surprising me over and over again.  I first saw her as the boyish Lisbeth Salander in the Swedish original of The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo (or otherwise called Millenium Trilogy).  After that, I saw her in Prometheus and that really was interesting and she lead that role really well.  But now, we’re talking about her role in Sherlock Holmes and it was pretty awesome.  Her expressions and acting in general has impressed me. I really hope to see her in more flicks.

shadows sim

Another thing I look at was the villain himself, Moriarty.  Somehow I felt that the downfall was Moriarty himself, I never truly felt that anyone would be in danger.  Sure, Moriarty played a smart and intelligent man but he never made me feel like a worthy villain.  In a flick, thats based on a villain that should make you feel like he is actually threatening the movie, I wasn’t totally pleased in the domains of how evil he was or how dangerous he was.  I still enjoyed the movie but it would have really hit higher on my scale if he was better.

sherlock moriarty

All in all, I’d say this one was pretty good.  Its not as good as the first one to me.  I have to get around to reviewing that one.  What this one has for it is the odd actions of Sherlock Holmes and the amazing chemistry that he has with Watson.  Their interaction and dialogue usually was what had me focused into the movie.  At the other times, I wasn’t totally into it as much.  Even though the villain wasn’t much, there were some fun elements in this flick that makes it into an entertaining watch.

What do you think of Sherlock Holmes? How about Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law? What are your favorite films of these two?
