Tranquil Dreams Podcast #5: What’s Up 2021 Week 8 & 9

As things slowly get back to normal, podcast will hopefully get back on track. This episode, What’s Up 2021 is recapping Weeks 8 and 9 of the year through the reading, playing, watching and binging. In all categories, its fairly unbalanced as expected as the 2 weeks aren’t really focused on this other than a lot of work. Either way, what can we do? Its over now and I can only look back and talk about what’s gone on. Plus, there are some really cool discoveries so hopefully, I will share some fun new titles for you all to check out if you haven’t already. As a note, its been a heavier focus on movies and TV these 2 weeks.

I’m playing a game of catch-up right now and vouched to do 2 weeks here and then another 2 weeks What’s Up episode coming up next for Week 10 & 11 and then things should get back to normal on a weekly basis. Fingers crossed since work will pick up soon and these podcasts can’t really be done in advance a lot so it might go back to a biweekly format. We will see in time!

I’m still polishing this series and with the pandemic and work schedule a little crazy, my routine has taken a little switching up every few weeks causing this inconsistency and a little hard to find a set time to record and edit throughout the week. Bear with me as this (hopefully) calms down. I keep saying it but workload has been abnormally elevated so its hard to really tell at this point.

Either way, hope you enjoy this episode and let me know what you think and what you’ve been reading/watching/binging/playing!

Music Obsessions – March 2021

Welcome to the next Music Obsessions! March is here and this past month felt like there was lot of music..but in reality, there actually wasn’t. Either way, still a few things to share!

My Love – 乐华NEXT

Big fan of the boy group Next who don’t release a whole lot of new singles as a few of them do have their own individual music as well, however when they do, its always really cool performance. I do like the rhythm of the song overall.

Shake That Brass – Amber Liu
(Produce Camp 2021 Performance)

I could have used the original music video for Amber Liu’s Shake That Brass but I actually prefer this performance so here we go. One of my discoveries from Produce Camp 2021 is their mentor Amber Liu who is rather talented and cool. This song is so fun!

戒菸 Quit Smoking – 李榮浩 Ronghao Li

After mentioning a mentor for Produce Camp 2021, I do have to mention one from Youth With You 3 and its one of the trainee first ranking performances that lead me back to this song. I had heard it before but never really paid a lot of attention to it. Not sure if its a current mood or whatnot but somehow, I really like it this time around and its been on replay quite a bit. Plus, the music video is done really well.

HIP -Japanese ver.- MAMAMOO

A Japanese trainee group performed this song as their first ranking on Produce Camp 2021 and it was pretty fun so I hunted down the original. I just love the rhythm and style of the song. I haven’t really watched the music video much but the song itself is super fun to listen to. I’m starting to realize that a lot of upbeat music is making my list this month. I guess it has to do with the fact that its keeping my energy level high.

非你不可 Just U – 謝霆鋒 Nicholas Tse & 泰山樂隊 Tarzan

I don’t know if anyone remembers last year when there was the band competition show called Me To Us which I absolutely loved and shared some of the music at the time. Its why this song means so much more because the winning band Tarzan finally gets a new song and its with their mentor Nicholas Tse, who for those who frequent here know I’m a mega fan of for the last 20 years or something.

That’s it for this Music Obsessions!
I rather quick one this time but hope you enjoyed!
What have you been listening to lately?

My February Adventures

In a blink of an eye, February is over! A tad late, much like everything else in February. Its really unbelievable probably because the first two months of every year is just a pile of deadlines overlapping each other for work so I don’t really know what’s going on in actual life. Work is just taking a real good hit on my energy accumulated from the past year, so I just gave up on forcing myself to get some crappy post up and taking longer to release better content but less frequent. Hopefully you all have been enjoying the little content that I have posted up.

With that said, Montreal is definitely looking much more like winter in February. Some lower temperatures and a few snow falls and one or two snowstorms. With curfew still in place and things gradually opening back up more, its been rather mixed feeling on the whole situation in Montreal about how its improving on the pandemic front. The numbers sure look better but…as this post goes up, spring break (aka what started up the pandemic last year) is also happening.

With that said, all the everyday life stuff caught up, here were some few highlights of February! There’s not a lot as you can probably imagine but still, here we go!

Valentine’s Marathon (kind of)

Like past years, I tried to get a Valentine’s Marathon going! Try being the key word here. It was probably the last amount of posts and the furthest from the actual tentative schedule that I had initially planned. Still, I tried to do the most I could. I still managed to get my highlight post to end the marathon done and less movies meant some better picks overall. You can check it out HERE.

Ultimate Decades Blogathon 2021

We’re halfway through Ultimate Decades Blogathon currently (well, in the last week of it). The changed format is pretty cool and the selections by our guests have been very interesting for sure. If you haven’t caught up with it, you can check out the entries HERE.

Chinese New Year Celebrations

Chinese New Year came around on a super busy phase and with the pandemic, it was a very simple version. I did manage to pick up some beautiful flowers. The bouquet split into 2 vases: one just tulips and the other of the rest of the batch. My mom also gave me some forsythias. The flowers did give the house a nice burst of energy and aliveness.

International Packages Arrived

I don’t know what I was thinking when I decided ordering online was a good idea. BUT, everything arrived after the expected over 1.5 to 2 months time. The first from Hong Kong (ordered at end of November) as I had this weird rush while browsing through an online store in Hong Kong to find a film and ended up picking up three movies, 2 of them that still hasn’t popped up on any online streaming service over the span of the wait. I can’t wait to watch them.

Next is a bunch of T-shirts from QwerTee (ordered end of December) which I didn’t take a picture of when I got the package so here’s a few of them. I have a Digimon Agumon Digivolve that’s currently in the wash and I also got my husband a FF7 Continue screen. It might have taken a while to get here but the quality is pretty nice. They do have some pretty good designs.

Update: Tranquil Dreams Podcast

As some of you may have noticed, Tranquil Dreams Podcast has been far and sparse and that mostly has to do with the real life job that’s taken over my life. With that said, as much as I wanted to do the podcast, I just took into consideration that there was no way that I could do it. However, instead of going back to the old written format, which I did for 3 weeks, I’ve decided that podcasts will aim to be weekly but if they aren’t, then the podcast itself will cover the missing weeks, just for my own organization sake and not having to flip back and forth as its a bit crazy some times to track. However, it will not exceed every 2 weeks.

You can check out the most recent episode HERE.

Cute Kitty Pic

My work companion when I’m working from home
She tends to sleep and snore a lot so its really just moral support that she offers

That’s it for February adventures. Nothing too exciting!

Tranquil Dreams Podcast #4: What’s Up 2021 Week 7 Recap + Highlights

Its FINALLY time for the next Tranquil Dreams Podcast!

After a few weeks off from the podcast due to work reasons, its time to get back on track. While the past 3 weeks of What’s Up had reverted back to the written format, this episode will not only cover the Week 7 recap but also mention some highlights of the last few weeks!

With that said, Week 7 had some signs of getting back on track. I talk a little bit about some of the future plans coming up as things slow down for next month or in the near future at least in each of the categories. There is some new little things and ideas that I had talked about before but haven’t had time to work on.

One thing that I do apologize for mostly in the second half of the podcast is that I’m having some minor sinus issues so I had to clear my throat here and there and then take a little break in the second half as it was starting to really bother me.

What’s Up 2021: Week 6

As I consistently fall back to the original written format and also a few days late, this is the last week where this is the case as I was catching up with sleep and regaining my mental energy, I have a new game plan for next week and its going to get that next podcast episode out. For now, let’s keep with this format.

I promise to do a quick highlight of the past 3 weeks that were in written format since there are some little thoughts of a various things. This week might be a little different as I looked back and realized that I got confused with my weekly recap timeline so maybe this week might be a little less to make up for the mistakes.

READING

Currently reading:  The Visitor

As I fall behind on reading, I made zero progress on The Visitor. The hope is to get back to reading and finishing it in the coming week so fingers crossed 😉

PLAYING

Steam Game Festival Demos

  • Lunark
  • Rain on your Parade
  • Tiny Room Stories: Town Mystery
  • Lost Words: Beyond The Page
  • Children of Silentown
  • A Perfect Day
  • The Companion
  • Ghost On The Shore
  • Beacon Pines
  • Cats and Other Lives

As I put together this week, I realize that I forgot to wrap up the Game Warp post for the Steam Game Festival. Tossing that onto the to-do pile. However, I did play some solid demos. One of them had a funky bug that shut off my PC but if they fix that bug, that game might be the ones with more potential. Of course, being a backer for Lunark also makes me a little bias but at the same time, the demo did not disappoint as in the world building while the controls needed a little polishing. Aside from that, Ghost on the Shore, Lost Words and Children of Silentown definitely are ones that I added to my wishlist after the demo as well.

WATCHING

  • Hustlers (2019)

As I get things back on track, movie watching has been on a low. Hustlers being the only film that I watched in the previous week (as I mentioned before that I’m behind so its like more than 1 week ago). I’ve heard good things about it. I do tend to stay away from films with Jennifer Lopez as the ones I’ve seen were pretty meh however, this one is alright. Everyones does a good job. Where I had issues with it definitely was not the acting but more the execution and pacing. I will discuss it more in a review post.

BINGING

  • Beauty From Heart (2021)
  • Sweet Home (Season 1, 2020 Review)

Currently binging: Who’s The Murderer S6, Shine! Super Brothers, Fourtry S2, Share Life, A Journey For Love, When We Write Love Story

With the wild workload thats been hanging over my life in general, its the first week that I have kept everything fairly stable and not a whole lot of new shows. The only one thats new is A Journey For Love is actually not that new except that I forgot to mention it before.

Beauty From Heart finished up and I’m working on the TV binge right now. So many thoughts for that one especially with the message its portraying and the character development. The husband and I finished up Sweet Home as well. The TV binge for that was released yesterday so you can check that out. In a nutshell, its pretty good and I like post-apocalypse films and creature features so right up my alley. There are some little issues here and there but overall, I’m hoping that it gets a second season.

Shows like Fourtry Season 2 and Shine! Super Brothers is at its last few episodes. Good thing because next one has some new things and the next season of Produce Camp and Youth With You is coming up so its going to be kind of wild soon.

Thats it for this What’s Up!
What have you been reading/playing/watching/binging?

What’s Up 2021: Week 5

So…work apparently has no sign of slowing down. While I wanted to shift things around and get out 2 podcasts next week, I decided its probably best to just clear out this week before it gets further behind. I’ll have a bigger show the week after as a quick recap over the missed weeks. I realize that a lot of this weekly recap is rather ambitious thinking on my end however, things will get back on track once work slows down. Anyways, I will talk about the hectic work schedule in the next adventures post but for now, let’s check out the What’s Up and what’s been going on (obviously not too much considering my time is all spent on work).

READING

Currently reading: The Visitor

Its disappointing to say but I’m still working on The Visitor as I fall further behind on the reading commitments. I’m just hoping to really find some time to get in a few hours and finish up this one and get the review out at this point.

PLAYING

Currently playing: ReCore

As a way to relax a little, I started up ReCore on the Xbox Game Pass that I had downloaded a long time ago but kept skipping over it. I didn’t play a whole lot of it, probably about a chapter or so. Its a rather decent game to say the least. The world and the gears and all is fairly easy to control and work on. There is different enemies and such that make it pretty cool. Of course, I’m still at the beginning so lots of time for it to ramp up in difficulty and challenge my limited gaming abilities especially when it includes shooting although I do love games with lock-on targets.

With that said, Steam Game Festival also started up since February 5th and I’ve been checking out some of those games. They belong to the next week so I’m going to talk about them all in the next What’s Up, hopefully in podcast format since I have some some thoughts and a good bit of games to play which I’m hoping to get an impressions post up on Game Warp. Suffice to say that progress is very slow.

WATCHING

  • Isn’t It Romantic (2019, Review)
  • A Nice Girl Like You (2020, Review)
  • Detective Dee: The Four Heavenly Kings (2018)
  • Lila & Eve (2015)

Valentine’s Marathon has started but its a rather rocky road as with the current state, only 2 movies have been watched so probably the remaining bits will be mostly TV binge backlogs at this point. However, I’m still working hard on it. Luckily, the start off point was pretty good as Isn’t It Romantic is a fantastic romantic comedy that mocks romantic comedies so very fun overall.

As for the other two films, I had to bump those up in the watch list as I realized fairly last minute that they were going to leave Netflix Canada. With that said, these two were alright overall. Detective Dee: The Four Heavenly Kings is a few sequels in this franchise which I’ve only seen the first movie eons ago and haven’t seen anything in between so its a fresh watch however it feels pretty standalone so it was easy to follow and the whole monster designs and stuff in the fantasy elements are done super cool. As for Lila & Eve, its a revenge thriller sort of deal. The story itself is a pretty good and the twist is fairly decent although it feels like at one point, it has a few clue-ins on what the twist might be. However, Viola Davis is such a great actress that this movie is lifted up because of her and even for myself who isn’t such a big fan of Jennifer Lopez as an actress thought that she did a decent job.

BINGING

  • Locke & Key (Season 1, 2020)

Currently binging: Who’s The Murderer S6, Shine! Super Brothers, Fourtry S2, The Treasured Voice S2, Share Life, Sweet Home S1, Beauty From Heart

As some of the shows start tapering out and some of slowly fallen off the radar for me, I’m actually clearing up some space for some upcoming shows that I have my eyes on and others that I want to finish from before once things calm down. However, I did decide to start up Locke and Key which is the definite highlight of this week since I did finish it fairly quickly. A great premise and well done show. I’m looking forward to Season 2 for sure. Plus, I’ve been looking through where to get the graphic novels to give it a read when I get the chance. This one is right up my alley.

As for currently watching shows, its really a lot of the same. Beauty From Heart has ended when this post goes up but these posts are generally a week in delay. I’m bumping it to talk about next week instead. Boy, do I have a lot to talk about for that show. Fourtry S2 and Shine! Super Brothers are also in the last few episodes as well. The husband and I decided to start up another Korean TV series so that’s the new addition as we started watching Sweet Home. I can’t say its as fun as Uncanny Counter and I’m super tired so reading subtitles is not something that I do for a long time so we’re about 2- 3 episodes in at this point.

That’s it for this What’s Up!
A little disappointed to not get a What’s Up podcast done this week but instead of pushing it back a few days, going back to the written format keeps things a little more organized on my end.
Some normalcy have mid February for sure.
No guarantees on podcast next week but I’ll definitely try if things run smoother than anticipated at work (which is never the case as I’ve grown to realize).

What have you been reading/watching/binging/playing?

What’s Up 2021: Week 4

Surprise! We’re back to the old format for What’s Up this week! The main reason is that I’m overloaded with work (as you may have noticed by the lack of posts this week) so I’m literally taking out some time from doing overtime for work to get this post done quickly. The past week was alright in terms in content but nothing super exciting, as expected with how busy work currently is with the deadline right around the corner.

Either way, we’ll be back to podcast format next week but for now, let’s check out what’s up this past week!

READING

  • The Littlest Dinosaur by Bryce Raffle & Steven Kothlow

Currently reading: The Visitor

I got this book this week as a part of an upcoming blog tour in March so I’m way ahead but it looked so cute that I couldn’t resist to give it a read through. Its a children’s book so its an easy read. I won’t dive too much into it or else there won’t be anything else to write about in the actual blog tour later on.

In other news, I’m trying to finish up The Visitor as a review commitment which I’m already a bit behind on so that’s the next book to wrap up as top priority once my eyes have time to look at my Kindle.

PLAYING

  • Donut County
  • Death’s Gambit (incomplete)

Currently playing: (that’s a good question because I’m not sure, but probably Call of the Sea/The Medium/Tell Me Why Episode 2 & 3 or Control)

I’m starting to see a pattern in the first two categories. Donut County is a game recently added to Xbox Game Pass and also the next game that we looked at over at Game Warp as a fun short discussion. Its a fun little game that does help kill time and destress mostly. Its not complex or deep but its rather soothing and a little comedic depending on your humor. Given my brain power right now, this was exactly what I needed. Plus, its only a 2 hour game so its pretty much one to play in one sitting. What’s Donut County for those not familiar with indie games or haven’t heard of it before? You play BK the raccoon who owns the donut shop who is playing this game on his phone that helps him earn points that opens up holes in the ground and eventually swallows up everyone in Donut County underground and all to get a quadcopter which is pretty much like a drone of some sort. Whacky premise? I know but it has its charming elements.

WATCHING

  • The Land of Steady Habits (2018)
  • Edge of Fear (2018)

Super random picks this week for movie watching. Plus, they were blind watches since I didn’t even know the premise when I started it up. Its slim pickings to say the least and with that said, The Land of Steady Habits easily takes this one. While I’m not sure that I get the movie completely and it didn’t connect with me quite as much, there’s definitely something there in the story especially talking about parents, moving on and entering a new phase in life. Its also a lot about blame and responsibility. Plus, the acting was pretty good overall.

That’s in comparison to Edge of Fear which wasn’t a bad premise but the movie was way too overacted. Everything felt so over. I recently saw a movie in the past few months that felt similar to this one but was executed much better. This one had its own issues even though the second half did redeem itself a little.

BINGING

  • The Uncanny Counter (Season 1, 2020 Review)

Currently binging: Who’s the Murderer S6, Shine!Super Brothers, Beauty From Heart, Fourtry S2, When We Write Love Story, Share Life S1, Sisters Who Make Waves S2, The Treasured Voice S2

If you listened to the last podcast, I was excited and worried about The Uncanny Counter’s big season finale. You can check out the review of the season right now (link above) but the ending was pretty satisfying overall. Its already reviewed so I’m going to leave it at that.

A lot of the same in terms of variety shows and even dramas since in terms of Chinese drama, I’m left with only Beauty From Heart which as the show goes on, I’m starting to question why I’m watching this and why the two main leads took this series as they are the best part of it and the only reason that I keep watching. Every other character is so frustrating to watch and written so poorly. I’m debating the next series now (but leaning towards continuing The Wolf and Legend of Fei but I felt like I didn’t want to risk the possibility of bawling my eyes out so I decided to put it on hold until the work rush was over). I really should watch My Little Happiness but something about it is also not hooking me a ton, probably the first male lead.

As for new shows, Sisters Who Makes Waves Season 2 started up. There’s a few ladies here that I personally love a lot so its caught my interest but then Season 1, I didn’t even finish watching it so we’ll see how long I hold onto this one. The other is The Treasured Voice which I just forgot to talk about in the previous week on the podcast but its a fun one about singers chosen by 4 judges/singers to pair up and perform a song that would be classed as a hit song. I like singing shows overall so its pretty cool. Plus, they have actual music critics on the show so its pretty fun to watch the discussion of it.

That’s it for this week’s What’s Up!

Tranquil Dreams Podcast #3: What’s Up 2021 Week 3

Another week has gone by in 2021 and another episode of Tranquil Dreams Podcast is here!

Its been a busy and wild week whether its with job or falling behind with projects and having to shift things around in my schedule. However, a lot of the categories are still fairly packed and mostly on track and a lot of things have pulled through at the end so I’m still relatively pleased with how the week went on. Once work schedule slows down, things should see a better rhythm instead of always releasing the podcast episodes later than I’d like.

This episode of Tranquil Dreams Podcast, I do a recap of Week 3 of 2021 for the next What’s Up 2021 for what I’m currently reading, watching, playing and binging as well as what’s been done and completed and some possible plans for the coming week. There’s a few highlights and some quick descriptions for the new additions from all categories: books, games, movies and TV. Blog tours, blogathon announcements, tossing an idea for a future Tranquil Dreams discussion piece in this episode as well.

Tranquil Dreams Podcast #2: What’s Up 2021 Week 2

Time for the next Tranquil Dreams Podcast!

As you can tell, I’m still working out the whole recording and editing schedule so its getting published a little later than I’m hoping for.

This episode of Tranquil Dreams Podcast, we take a look at Week 2 of 2021 for the next What’s Up weekly recap of what I’m currently reading, watching, playing and binging and the highlights of each segment along with a description of the new additions to the rundown and some impressions and thoughts.

Tranquil Dreams Podcast: Episode 1: Intro & What’s Up 2021: Week 1

Hey Everyone! As we approach the 10th blogiversary of Tranquil Dreams, its time to kick things into action with a new shift and that’s the official first episode of Tranquil Dreams Podcast! I’m a little uncertain about how it all sounds and stuff since I criticize myself a lot and I’m not a fan of listening to my voice. Bear with me as I find the whole pace of solo podcasting and hopefully become a mildly entertaining host for the show! Its a fairly personal project since its going to be talking about things that I like.

Regardless, first episode will give a quick intro on what’s in store for Tranquil Dreams Podcast and the things that I will discuss and followed with the official move of What’s Up 2021 to podcast format with a recap of the first week. Episodes for What’s Up should go up every Friday at no set time (until I find a rhythm) then the goal is to get it out in the morning. Eventually hopefully moving to Thursday (fingers crossed). I haven’t edited in a long time so its taking longer than I imagined.

You can find the podcast on Anchor and Spotify as well as listening it via the player above.
