My Weekly Adventures: Work Work and more Work (and a bit of fun)

Welcome to My Weekly Adventures! You can’t physically see me but I’m breathing a sigh of relief.  This later than usual post goes up after I came home from work for some the final day of overtime of this week long craziness.  Along with that, this morning right after I took the car out, I realized that my car’s tire was punctured and totally deflated so after a ton of messing with it and Murphy’s Law 100% in effect, I think everything is generally okay, except you know, having to get a new tire since my husband couldn’t patch it.  I was going to give you all a meh post with just some random stuff to fill up space but decided that I needed some writing time to inject some positivity and get ready for the next week.

Enough of rambling, lets go!

Meow Box Unboxing and Subscription Update!

Meowbox

In case you missed it, in the last two weeks, I did a little Meowbox unboxing.  It was a one month subscription for April for Flea’s 5th birthday.  She loved it as you can see and the toys are occupying her time and energy quite a bit. You can see that post HERE.  While the unboxing isn’t very entertaining, I was super excited to have playtime on camera with Flea and despite the camera having to move around, she was quite cooperative. I had decided to cancel my subscription but the lovely folks at Meowbox managed to help me out a little but long story short, expect another Meowbox unboxing in the next few months. 😉

Garden Planning

Crimson Star

Raspberry

The weather here in Montreal is being difficult with nights still hitting rather below average weather so the plants are growing slowly but there are signs of life in the garden.  The one place I would have enjoyed slow growth was my “vegetable garden” in the making.  May’s big project is to get rid of all the grass and turn it into a vegetable garden I want.  Its going to be a labor intensive job but one I’m really looking forward to.  I’ve already planned out how the container gardening to decorate the patio will be already so its just that last bit.  Meanwhile, I have gotten in some time to trim and prune and clean up the garden. Things are looking good. 🙂

Saturday Two-Part Outings with Friends

Its been a while I’ve hung out with my girl friends so when we decided to go check out the L’Oreale sale, I was all for it.  Sure, it meant waking up early on a Saturday and probably getting lost (since that’s just expected when I drive to a new place), it was still tons of fun.  There was a lot of people there but the stock wasn’t particularly great.  I bought some sun protection lotion and Garnier shampoo and bought a Biotherm Men Urban Survival kit for my husband. Then, we headed for a spontaneous brunch to Le Cartet,.  I recently did a restaurant post on that one HERE.  Then we headed to get some ice cream/sorbet at Le Bilboquet.

4 mini degustations at Le Bilboquet

They had this special called 4 mini degustation which is 4 mini tasting portions for $5 (tax included). I chose raspberry, mango-coconut, strawberry-pear and passion fruit. The mix was so delicious! We sat around in the square with these lovely little decorations below.

The weather was perfect and the sun was so warm as we sat and chatted.  It was great.  After I went home to relax and do a few chores, it was time to head out with the husband to hang out with his friends for a little tradition started last year of Poutineville and Chocolat Favoris.  I skipped getting something at Chocolat Favoris since I had my sorbet fix already. However, here is my poutine and the husband’s.

Poutineville

Poutineville

Mine had hot dog, lactose-free cheese and shoestring fries with poutine sauce. My husband’s was with sweet potato fries, curd cheese, and some meats that I can’t remember.

Before we headed to Chocolat Favoris, the whole group went for a walk since we all had eaten so much to just help digest.

It was a super nice walk that started off a little chilly but it was really fun. It was great time during the day with good company and delicious food.  A perfect day to relax and have fun and just take a break from work.

Product That I Love: Frends Earphones

I’m not sure who watched the unboxing of the FabFitFun Winter box a while back but I got these Frends Earphones which I haven’t used because my earphones were (and are) still doing great.  I brought to work today to listen to music while working and OMG! I love them! The sound quality is fantastic. I think possibly one of the best ones I’ve ever tried on.  That is really all I wanted to mention. It seems that they only have the headphones now. But man, this is the FabFitFun page on that right HERE! Mine are white but I’m in love!

Updates and Collabs, ETC

Its been month that I’ve talked about changing the domain.  I’m still working on it.  Don’t worry about it.  I don’t talk about it because this month has been a massive crazy mess.  May still looks really busy with a lot of events and dinner dates and all that stuff.  Plus, I’ve been busy with some projects and of course, gaming posts over at That Moment In.

In case you didn’t know, I’ve been doing Game Breaks and Game Reviews over at That Moment In.  We’re also working on something else for the gaming section and if all goes well, I’ll be posting about it soon! 🙂 On that note, if you have any interesting games that you think I’ll like playing, please suggest! I’ve been checking out a lot of mobile games and there has been some surprising finds.  I also work on gameplay so I’ve been editing videos a lot more.  Its both time consuming and a lot of fun! The last review post that went up was a collab post with Jordan of Epileptic Moondancer for an indie game called Layers of Fear.  You can check that out HERE!

Hope you’ve all had a fantastic weekend! 🙂
What have you been up to? Are there any games you’ve been playing? Are you preparing for spring and gardening?

My Weekly Adventures!

Instead of boring you with my little details, this time, I spaced it out deliberately to two weeks.  I had nothing to report back with so it just makes sense to get this in now with a little bit more activities. This time around, its slowed down quite a bit.  I’m trying to clear up my schedule a little and just relax, catch up on some sleep and find back some energy.  Plus, I need to get ahead with the blog so its all a work in progress. We are also trying to get the house in order and looking nice enough for any relatives that come and want to visit 😉

1) Second visit to Poutineville

As mentioned in the last Weekly Adventures, we went on our second visit and I met even more of my fiance’s friends.  Crazy stuff, eh? This wedding, I tell you. Its making life colorful.  And I mean, his friends are really colorful like their personality and their thoughts are hard to catch up with.

Anyways, I finally had the poutine at Poutineville.  Its not so much real as I wasn’t sure about the gravy so they suggested the Italian meat sauce instead. Its kind of what we call Michigan-style (instead of hot dogs, we have fries and cheese).

Then, like the last time, a visit to Chocolate Favoris.

Its turning into something of a tradition.  I just might want to refrain from Poutineville for the next few weeks until after the big day. So that, all my hard work is not put to waste, right?

2) Nike Re-Run

Last weekend, Nike Running app sent me an email telling me that on Saturday, a run that we did would give us the chance to have a Nike Re-run video.  Now, that sounds awesome and what’s great about having this blog is I love trying out new little things.  So, I got in an afternoon run on Saturday even though I was so not feeling like it.  But I did it and kept to my workout goals. I was thinking that maybe I wouldn’t get it because the run wasn’t all that great.  My time was a little meh. But on Sunday, I ended up getting the email prompt to get the video.  We got to choose the time log and pick whichever one.  My routes are more or less the same.  It varies in direction, side of the street or going through the park or whatever small streets.  I actually need to map out a new path to explore the other side of the new neighborhood I moved in.  Still, here is what I yield.

That is my fastest time I’ve done so far. I haven’t quite beat that time yet as an average.

http://nrcre-run.nike.com/us/en_us/nrcre-run/shared/0a8b587cc02123dd6fb2a56cc3af1f4e/1

Oh right, and I run against traffic because it feels safer for me and the lights don’t change when I plan on crossing the road or whatever.  I just like to run with as little interruptions as possible. On a side note, a few days later, I ran my fastest km…but still, this is my best average pace.  Lets hope it improves 😉

3) Quantico’s Set

If anyone is interested in seeing the new series Quantico, they have been shooting in Old Montreal right in front of the old Royal Bank building. They had done filming on and off for 2-3 weeks at least.  It looks really impressive and my guess is that its going to be the series headquarters or something.  The series already has me intrigued.  Its right up my alley of what I usually watch for TV series and with it being filmed so nearby, it has me even more interested 🙂

4) Vist at Seigneurie de l’ile d’Orleans (and some spontaneous stops)

We bought a voucher for a visit to this garden at l’ile d’Orleans a while back and its edging near expiry and we even missed the peak season to see the lavender gardens but we did buy it so we took a little day trip out to l’ile d’Orleans and visited a rather green garden 😉  I apologize but I only have my fiance’s pictures.  My pictures haven’t quite made it in the computer yet. However, I will be doing a full post on this if the pictures do turn out good.  I think I did some artsy stuff playing with the focus and whatnot. Not sure how it turned out.

Seigneurie de l'ile d'orleans

seigneurie de l'Ile d'Orleans

L’ile d’Orleans in summer is definitely different from winter.  It was full of people.  We did end up stopping at a newly opened La Nougaterie which is a place that I love which makes amazing soft nougats.  Apparently, they just moved to this location for two weeks and I caught it completely spontaneously.  We bought some little nougats and had some tasting.  If you haven’t tasted these nougats, you have to.  I look forward to getting it at the arts and crafts show for their Christmas flavored one.  Its like heaven in my mouth.

The last stop we made before we left was at Cassis Mona et Filles which is a winery that focuses on blackcurrant wines and liqueurs.  They have a really awesome recipe using one of their Fruité liqueur and the syrup based one along with club soda and fruits that makes THE BEST sangria I’ve ever tasted. We, of course, got that. They also sell some more dry wines like their Port.  I almost couldn’t swallow that one because it was rather dry.

5) Garden Updates

Its almost time to close the gardens but we had a surge of heat wave and my plants are all confused.  Its good though.  We’re getting our big batch of strawberries and raspberries.  I’m considering to get a blueberry plant for next year.  I have a bit of space next to all these berries but it might not work so well because sun doesn’t hit that corner as much.  Anyways, next year’s projects aren’t anything to discuss now.  Look at those strawberries and raspberries 🙂

Confused plant doesn’t get any more than my clematis.  It has the hardest time staying alive in that spot.  I was starting to think about moving it again but didn’t know where just yet.  Then the heat wave hit and its having a ton of buds.  I sure hope the weather holds up so that it can bloom.  I haven’t seen one flower bloom on it yet.  Better late than never, right? 😉

Finally, we are seeing signs of the fall chrysanthemums coming out.  Its budding and about to bloom.  The big one is from the previous owners and my little ones last year, only one survived but its more than enough with whats there now since the marigolds are still blooming.

6) What’s Next…

  • Netflix A-Z: I-L movies (next two weeks)
  • The Classics Adventures: book review and corresponding movie review
  • Alaska Cruise: Day 5 & 6
  • PRIORITY: Baking Through Disney: recipe & next movie

That’s it for this time’s Weekly Adventures! Short and sweet! 🙂
Happy Friday, my lovelies! Enjoy your weekend!

My Weekly Adventures!

We’re back on track! These coming weekly adventures should be more tame and back to my normal updates. Festival season is coming to a close and while there are a few events scattered around, its definitely focusing back onto the house stuff.  I can’t believe that closing the garden is coming up really soon.

First of all, I’d like to apologize on a little issue I had with emails. The beginning of the week, I realized that I wasn’t getting any emails linked to WordPress forwarded to my own personal email. Which is how I do things since I can’t manage to many accounts and remember to check them all.  Apparently, that is the case because I didn’t delete for years anything in the account linked to WordPress, it was full so nothing came in.  When I realized that 2 days later, I finally managed to empty it out and 500 emails (approximately) poured into my email.  So now, I’m back to catching up with posts.  Deal with me as I manage this little hiccup.  My mind has been rather preoccupied and I’m falling behind all over again. I’ll be back on track soon enough 🙂 At least its resolved, right?

Now, lets see what adventures I’ve been on!

1) Meeting new friends & trying new places!

Its great how upcoming weddings are the perfect opportunity to meet lots of new people, like my fiance’s co-workers, at least two of them.

They live relatively near to us in the suburbs of Montreal and one of them lives near this restaurant called Poutineville. This actually happened the week earlier but this last post was already so packed that I ended up shifting it to this one instead.  If you don’t know, poutine is this fries, gravy and curd cheese fast food.  Obviously, I’ve had to give it up since my lactose intolerance gained control of my life again.  Still, this restaurant is pretty awesome.  Other than the fact that the A/C broke that day and I was dying of heat, adding on the fatigue of dress shopping all day before this, I wasn’t all too hungry, but the guys were and I had a little something also of course.

And then we headed off to Boucherville to try out this ice cream place called Chocolat Favoris (translation: Favorite Chocolate) which is owned by a popular day time TV host called Gino Chouinard in Quebec.  Its special because you can order 5 different sizes of ice cream and they coat it with whatever coating you’d like which comes in 12 different flavors (5 milk chocolate, 3 dark chocolate, 2 white chocolate and 2 surprise flavors in rotation). Its pretty amazing.  The guys took hazelnut milk chocolate, I think.

They also served sorbets with a decent selection and other candies and chocolates.  Its a pretty nice place. Plus, Guy Chouinard was standing at the door to greet us after a block-long lineup.  It was super crazy! But it was worth it.  We even took a stroll around the neighborhood and chatted a little.  It was a nice little evening out with friends and that’s what counts 🙂

And since I wasn’t feeling great enough to try the lactose-free cheese poutine, we have another dinner out coming right up.

2) Garden update: A new perennial

The garden isn’t all doing well.  I made a few bad choices in plants this year but I think next year should be better.  I’ll hopefully get the vegetable garden plot ready before winter arrives. I’m just waiting for the day that its not 40C with 90% humidity.   We don’t have A/C so its a little crazy.  We did makeshift something that worked.  Thank goodness the weather is more bearable now.

However, last week, while doing some pool and plumbing shopping, I found a new perennial that fits perfectly in my side plot on the front lawn.  That plot is seriously almost all my own creation now from spring bulbs to summer flowers to fall blooms.  I’m pretty proud of it.

3) Wedding planning update

This is kind of my life now.  Between a balance of house work, blog, actual work, wedding planning and working out.  Its kind of a crazy schedule.  I have to say, my friends are phenomenal in helping me right now. All my girls have helped out tremendously especially at finding those details that I forget to think about.  The list just keeps growing and the time is drawing closer and closer.  Less than 2 months and we still have cake and centerpieces at the top of our list to take care of.  At least this weekend, we managed to narrow down what to do for the centerpiece and got most of the little accessories, shoes, guest book, decorations and the likes.

I can’t show you everything but here are the lovely shoes that I got at Call it Spring! 🙂

4) Running/workout update

Good news in workout updates is that I’m back out running.  Between two times of Zumba a week, spending some time with my mom and going out shopping on at least one day of the weekend for wedding planning duties, its been hard to get in.  I usually try to do one evening run and one Saturday morning run.  Its the goal and sometimes it doesn’t work out but I try my best. At least, if anything, I’ve cut out a good bit of unhealthy snacks replacing it with lactose-free yogourt, fruits and healthy granola bars.

Nothing too much to say, I just need to get back into the toning exercises instead of getting mostly cardio in to balance it a little.  A short update this time around.

5) Matsuri Japanese Festival

Two years ago, I talked about the Matsuri Festival.  Last year, because of the house, I skipped most of the festivals but hey, we’re back this year.  Yay! It was a steaming hot day right in the middle of our crazy heat wave and we baked under the sun while lining up at these crazy long lines. I don’t remember last time being so intense.  It seems to be the trend this year.  Everyone loves to get out of the house when its scorching hot.  But its normal.  We do only get like 3 months of “summer” where one month actually feels hot and that varies every year 😉

Matsuri 2015

I was so hungry when I got there that I totally forgot about taking pictures of the food.  I had some Imadaki, Takoyaki, Okonamiyaki Hot Dog, Cold Noodles and Kakigori as well. It was a fantastic day with some cute performances.  Up there is this activity where they are trying to do a dance with the audience along with some super kawaii music.  Thats the extent of my Japanese so yeah…it was cute.

6) 1000 Islands Cruise

This past weekend on the Sunday, my fiance had gotten ourselves and his parents and my mom tickets off of Groupon for a 1000 Islands Cruise at Brockville.  We did the one at Ganonoque a few years back and he loved it.  This one was 90 minutes (a step down from the last one) and in a city we hadn’t been to so it was a new experience all around.

1000 Islands, Brockville

I’ll be doing a full post with more pictures but here’s a few that I liked.

7) Podcast and upcoming on Tranquil Dreams

If you haven’t caught it, I was part of my first podcast EVER over as a guest at That Moment In.  It turned out pretty good 🙂 David and I talked about Jack and the Cuckoo Clock Heart and we dived a little into the characters and themes, the music and whatnot.  It was so much fun! I was a little nervous when it started and settled in a little more.  Point is: it all worked out 🙂

As for upcoming posts:

  • Continuing the new segment Netflix A-Z: Next letter is D. Remember double feature and a huge thanks to all of you for commenting so much.  Those posts are possibly one the ones with the most comments.  I appreciate it SO MUCH!!!
  • Recipe for Disney Baking Project & move along with the next feature: This is now one of my priorities. Last two weeks was just too hot that I couldn’t do any baking without having some form of heat stroke in my own house.  So I have everything at least, just need to get it done some time this week!
  • Alaska Cruise on Norwegian Jewel: Continuing the vacation posts
  • Music/Youtube Obsessions: Comedy edition

I’m keeping it short for those since that’s already a lot on my plate. Plus, I have some posts I owe to you lovely people.  You know who you are 😉  I have everything set up to take care of business! Plus, I’ve already started compiling the Halloween marathon (did I talk about this before?) but still, I’m pretty excited about it even though, I doubt it’ll be as plentiful as previous years since wedding date is in October so lots of crazy already happening.  It might end up being a half a month thing unless I get everything done in advance.  Which is what I’m trying to do now but the most I can get ahead with is 2 days.  I need to channel that pre-vacation energy…

To wrap it up, here’s  a little music!

That’s all for now! Happy Wednesday, my lovelies!! 🙂
