My Weekly Adventures [on hold]: The Ugliness of Being Sick

This week is all about being calm and quiet.  My mind not so much but activities, yes.  Trust me, its a good thing. With a breakdown (physical or mental) feeling like its looming in the background earlier in the week, I tried to take it easy and find some routine back in life so that I can avoid it. But, the title already says it all…I lost that battle in a really really bad way eventually…

Still, lets take a look at this week.

1) Running Update: Week 3

Nike Running App

The rain, my friends! Its been my absolute enemy.  I used to do dragonboat so drizzle, I could work with but its just been downpours. I ended up doing my Tuesday run around my house.  Like I literally ran up and down the stairs then circles around the dining table and my den and my bed then back and forth in the basement, etc then repeat. I was jogging doing chores with one hand because I needed to have the Running App track my movement with the other hand.  It was crazy and I probably looked ridiculous but it was done in the end.

The second thing I’m learning (again) is commitment.  Training is a choice and a dedication.  One that means you trade off certain things and rearrange life to do this because it means something. Just like any goal, right? So with that said, despite the stupid migraine plaguing me on Friday and I eventually just took the night off after starting to feel a little sick.  I actually felt better on Saturday and went for my run, which turned out to be a huge mistake.  You’ll see… especially since I managed to go do groceries and run a few errands before realizing my body was not too happy.

2) Updating the Appearance

I’ve talked about this for two years at least.  My stuff on the side bar was from 2013! 2013!!!! Can you believe that? That’s when I started losing touch with blogging a little but this week, I sat down and took care of it.  Change the header picture last week and then updated a few things and rearranged stuff around.  Now it’s better! I’m not changing the theme since I just changed it last year or something. I’m happy with where this is all going. My indexes are all back up to date and will be updated on a weekly basis as promised and trust me, that Disney baking project! I’ll get that Snow White recipe done! 🙂 I literally have all the ingredients and even a little more for a little baking extra (once my energy level increases).

3) Garden Update

There was a lot of rain in the past week.  I mean, a lot.  So, the good part was my garden was so alive.  Everything grew like crazy.

Lettuce after all the rain

Ground Cherry

We’re starting to harvest the lettuce and its delicious. Both the iceberg and romaine are awesome.  The cucumber plant is having some flowers now so its all good.  And the ground cherries are looking lovely.  My issue is that last year, we had that but it never ripened before it fell.  So I’m hoping to figure out why that happens and fix it.

4) A Little Visitor (who could be my strawberry eater)

Garden

Can you see it?

I went out for a little bit of fresh air and to catch some pics for the garden update.  And who knew that I turned around to look at the mess of moving over a plant to free up space for my raspberry eventually and something brown moved around in my peripheral vision, kind of. Its a little bunny.  I have neighborhood rabbits.  I know that because they hang out right in my garden here.  I’ve been suspecting the rabbits are the ones responsible for eating ALL of my strawberries but I guess I can’t get angry when its a cute little one like that…

5) Being Sick with the Not So Forgotten Gastroentritis

Being sick sucks.  We can all agree with that. Its been a while I haven’t had gastro not to mention one that took a billion years to build up to the actual symptoms resulting in my taking a day off work today (as I write this after sleeping and lounging around the entire day). It has not been easy.  From migraines to realizing I had a minor fever on Saturday and having slept 12 hours but still lasted into Sunday and then the fever tapering off and my date with the bathroom began for hours.  It was memorable and painful and I just couldn’t work up the energy to go to work nor did I want to pass on whatever bug I had to my coworkers because I’m not that evil. Its taken me a whole day with some congee, a good amount of warm water, sitting around lounging in bed and watching Netflix and wondering if it was actually over.

As I write this up, I’m rebuilding my energy and my health because gastro is ridiculously damaging especially since I already have the underlying IBS so my digestive system is already bad.  Either way, I don’t know how regular my posts will be this week.  I have the content.  I just need to write it and that takes energy that I’m not sure I have right now.  So I apologize if things are a little slower here this week.  Bear with me as I work hard to recover.  Perhaps, I’ll take this opportunity to write about vacation since that takes a whole lot less time than reviews.

Upcoming:

  • Orange is the New Black Season 3 TV Binge
  • The Fault in Our Stars Book Review
  • Day in Seattle Vacation posts

That’s it for this weekly adventures! Stay Healthy!! 🙂

My Weekly Adventures: Grand Prix, Flowers and Running Update!

Welcome to another My Weekly Adventures! I promised you fun among other things that I haven’t gotten done yet but lots of great stuff on the way, all in time (when I find time…)

Lets start with the little things which make up a good part of my spring life! Spring is ending and summer is around the corner, lets hope Montreal weather got the memo. Its a little bit more random this week but still, ENJOY!!

1) Flowers & Gardening

A few new blossoms in the garden.  Rain has been increasingly abundant and the weather’s warming up gradually so it really helps.

Flowers

Flowers

Columbine/Crimson Star

It actually helps a lot.  Its raining right now as I type this up but my lettuce from last week is about double the size or triple just because of 3 days of rain so we’ll be harvesting it this weekend to eat 🙂

Next mission, after getting eaten alive and the last project for container gardening this year: Mosquite repellant container.  That helped a lot last year so I’m hopefully going to get that done soon if I find the plants I need.  Aside from that, I’m still debating if its too late to start my zucchini plants.  I probably should but I don’t know.  I’ll give myself till the weekend to figure that out.

Are you gardening? Any blossoms or harvests yet?

2) Week 2 of Training for 10K Marathon

Nike Running Coach

Running distance is getting longer.  I have a perfect route that I found after getting lost and making a wrong turn that actually gave me a perfect 5 mile run. Believe me, walking is the hard part but then I walk a lot already so I just walk more briskly than usual. And cross training last week was this workout.

Its not exactly the 45-60 minutes they ask for in the program but I try to push myself a little harder. Fitsugar/Popsugar Fitness workouts are never easy, not even the beginner ones.  Those are just a little less intense but they are still quite demanding but thats also why its really effective and I love them so much! 🙂

Have you ran a marathon? Are you training?

3) Grand Prix Formula 1 Weekend

Last year, I left for Hong Kong the week before Formula 1 weekend which also marked the first year in whatever years that I hadn’t gone to at least walk through the events in downtown.  This year I went back with some friends.  There were some nice cars and tons of people. Its was a little drizzly and humid but overall, it was fun because of good company.  I’m only showing a few of the more “rare” cars or the ones I like at least.

There were a few things I wanted to point out.  For one, that Maserati is super sexy and that green one up there.  I don’t remember the make of that one. Second, they had a racing game with Oculus Rift and since I’ve been all about gaming videos, it made me super excited to see it.  I can see this as something I’d want to have.  But then, its crazy expensive so it won’t be something in the near future. Third, we had a chat with one of the car owners of the Tesla and he was super nice.  One of those cars actually has another set of seats in the “trunk” facing behind and he did that for his kids, turning his 5 seat sedan to a 7 seat.  Goes to show that if you have the money for it, you can have a family car and not have to drive a minivan 😉

4) Baby visit!

On the first day that I left for Alaska, that night at 2 am, one of my childhood friends water broke and had her baby like 17 hours later.  Her little daughter dodged being a Jedi but props to the doctor for having one day off on the delivery date.  Anyways, after getting everything done, we found time to hang out the past weekend.

My cat's thoughts, "What is this?"

My cat’s thoughts, “What is this?”

But this little one just stole my heart and that little bundle was smaller than my cat but managed to scare my cat away.  Haha!  That was as close as she got before running away.

Did I ever tell you that I’m super nervous around babies? So after a good bit of the night, I finally picked up my courage and held this little girl and she is a sweetheart.

wpid-mmexport1433725977496.jpg

Just look at her posing for the camera? Isn’t that just the cutest?

5) Discover: An awesome trailer for an indie film I want to see

Anyone here follows Wong Fu Productions on YouTube? I sporadically share their videos but the crew there along with some bigger name stars just put together a film called Everything Before Us and had their premiere last week some time I think.  Either way, that trailer looks fantastic.  Not to mention that I’m a fan of Aaron Yoo and one of the younger main characters played by Brandon Soo Hoo who is also in From Dusk Till Dawn series which I just saw.  And the guy from The Maze Runner, Ki Hong Lee is in it also.

Anyways, it looks awesome and I’m going to buy it soon and give it a watch 🙂

6) Things on my mind

  • Next post for Music Obsessions & Baking Through Disney (and actually baking).
  • What movie to see next in theatres (probably Jurassic World) since I missed a ton of good ones that you all will hate me for…
  • How to continue my fifty over at my other blog Days Nights and Daydreams.  Plus, I need to actually start writing that story I’ve been thinking. I came back from vacation with 3 stories running around my mind.
  • Should I do a blogathon? I’ve been blogging for over 4 years and I’ve wanted to do this but just no truly original ideas yet. I’ll figure it out this summer…hopefully.
  • Still..how to structure the vacation posts.  I might just work on it and hope for the best. Its been hanging around for too long.

That’s it for this week! Its a little late but hope you enjoyed! 🙂

Week 4: A Little Bit at a Time :)

Week 4! I can hardly believe that I’ve been back in this workout thing for a month.  Its really made me feel a whole lot better. My mind and concentration, even my energy is better than before.  Not to mention, aside from feeling sore, I feel really great about myself.

WEDNESDAY: 15 MINS FULL-BODY WORKOUT by PopSugar Fitness

Also called Fast and Furious Calorie Burn (on Youtube). This workout is pretty intense.  When life gets busy, I try to get these intense workout bursts to stay active.  I’m slowly gathering a good little bit of these and I want to try new ones so that I can keep the workouts diversified bit by bit. The instructions are done really well so its easy to follow even if you are focusing on the moves and there’s demo before each one before moving to the reps for the move.  At the end of this, it feels extremely hard to do for some moves.

I love this one a lot and I’ll probably head back to do this again to see how strength improves.

SATURDAY: DETOX YOGA & PURA VIDA

I needed to get some yoga in and since I was going to a arts and crafts show and going to taste some alcohol, I wanted to do a detox session before.  This one is supposedly very good for hangovers and I can actually see it really working out for that.  Its to help boost metabolism and I definitely felt like it got my blood flowing but also relaxing.  Its a few moves and the sun salutation.

pura vida tone it up

I followed this through with Pura Vida Workout from Tone it Up. Its one that I haven’t done in a long time.  A full-body workout again.  I didn’t quite feel it in my legs while I was working out but today (Sunday), when I woke up, its been reminding me how hard that workout was.

If you click the image, you’ll have the actual link with a video for this workout.  Some of these are a little hard to understand from the description but its a pretty good workout.  The dual movements covers the full-body. Spider Monkey Push-up is a pain to do.

FYI, I did 20 reps for first two moves while I did 10-15 reps for the last two. Completed 3 rounds.

OVERALL

I’m not hitting the 3 times a week nowadays.  There’s just too much stuff to do.  Still, this weekend, tracking my body transformation is starting to be motivating because I’m seeing better results this week. Thats my inspiration.

addiction results

I’m totally back on track.  Its great to see my body heading in the right direction.  Its an amazing feeling to get back some of that feel-good element, reduce stress and start feeling more confident about myself (and my body). Loving it! 🙂

Week 3: The Most Satisfying Pain

Week 3 was a whole lot more motivating.

Its because I now have geared my mind (or at least for the past week, I did) to go workout when I was having writer’s block.

Lets get straight to it, nothing else to write 🙂

MONDAY: BEACH YOGA (TONE IT UP)

I haven’t done this one in ages.  This was almost the first Yoga workout that I tried to get me interested in it.  It was really relaxing.  Rem

Remember my last week ended with that crazy Pumps and Iron workout on Sunday? Yeah, my abs were aching for 4 days (at least).  So I figured that Yoga would be a good idea to stretch out my abs.  It did but it also worked it like mad.  I always forget that Yoga is very abs heavy…

Its imprinted in my brain now.  I assure you of that.

WEDNESDAY: 50 MINS TOTAL BODY WORKOUT (POPSUGAR)

This is a little trickier because its five 10 minutes workouts so I’ll try to see if I can get the videos since its hard to embed the Popsugar videos from their video player.  Easier on YouTube.

If you just want to check it on one post and flip through it, click HERE!

Part 1: Light Cardio and Core Warmup

A pretty good warm-up.  It definitely get the blood going and ready to move on to the more intense stuff.

Part 2: Cardio Focus and Calorie Burner

This one works fairly well, except while I’m working out its hard to focus so much on the whole body coordination and it took a lot of effort to get some of the moves right. I’m guessing the second time will be better.

Part 3: Arms and Shoulders

My weakness is arms and shoulders. Kind of sad because I used to do dragon boat and that should be my forte if anything, although there’s a whole lot of abs work involved and the whole body.  A common misconception non-dragonboaters might have. Anyways, my shoulders are extremely weak and I’m trying to strengthen it right now.  This workout was pretty intense.  Its nice to have the 3lbs because it was the perfect weight.  Hopefully I’ll be able to go up to 5lbs after a few more weeks.

Part 4: Legs and Bottom

I didn’t actually do the full 10 minutes for this one because I didn’t go and search out the YouTube version. The one on Popsugar TV was really lagging and it was a tad inhumane to do it like a million times more than the fit instructors there were doing.  And I wasn’t a huge fan of the workout so I just moved along.

Part 5: Yoga Cooldown

I’m pretty happy with this yoga workout. The variations and whatnot were really good.  It was a cooldown but it still had a good bit of work involved.  Plus, the instructor is one of the best I’ve tried out. I didn’t really have to watch her, provided you have a general knowledge of what bench pose, warrior 1 and warrior 2 is.

Since I cut a little off of the Part 4.  The whole thing took me about 45 minutes to do. Pretty efficient total body workout.

I had planned to get another workout in on Saturday night or Sunday evening but I wasn’t feeling well on Saturday night so I skipped it instead. Sleep was a little more important.

That was my workout week! I’m all better now. Just a little bug that hit me for an evening apparently.

Before I go, here’s a little workout inspiration:

Happy Monday! 🙂

Workout Week 2: Finding the Energy

I know its a bit nuts to talk about finding energy and its only the second week getting back into this workout routine. Although working out isn’t so hard in theory to find time, in hindsight, starting it during NaNoWriMo might not be such a great idea.  But then, it does force me to make time for it, even if it means sleeping later at night to get in the workout to help destress.  Does that make sense? I’m more tired but less stressed? Whatever, I’m pushing through.

After I caught up with the massive lack of sleep from waking up uber early on Saturday morning and then again on Monday morning for my blood test. Apparently, losing 4 test tubes of blood later, the bruise is still there but hey, its all good. I’m pretty much back to normal.

THURSDAY: Making up A short Arms & Shoulders Workout

Yeah, I didn’t have time and if I sat around looking for a workout, I’d just skip it so I decided to not postpone. Put on The Flash Ep. 5 and picked up those 5lbs dumbbells and did 3 sets of 15 reps each of bicep curls, tricep extensions, lateral raises and triceps kickbacks.

SATURDAY: Pumps and Iron’s Medicine Ball Pyramid Workout

Last weekend, I finally bought a new medicine ball and a better quality one (hopefully, since it cost $50).  I was determined to put it good use so I went back to look for a workout.

medicine ball workout

Count on Pumps and Iron to get me working hard.  It felt pretty awesome afterwards.  It was hard halfway too but its nice to see that I pushed through.  Seriously, at about 8 reps I wanted to stop by but I’m glad I finished it 🙂

Whats makes that workout feel even better is when I was super occupied on Sunday and didn’t get the yoga workout I wanted in. Next week I need to do better. But with NaNoWriMo crunch time, I’m not so sure anymore. Plus, as I wrap up this post on Monday (but forgot to post it yesterday), I can tell you that my abs are really really sore.

In light of that, here’s a quote I need to remember especially this week:

workout inspiration

Bring it on! 🙂

P.S. Weekly Adventures coming back tomorrow.  Remember to drop by!

Workout Week 1: Getting back on track!

Nothing is harder than to not use a ton of excuses and get up from my comfortable chair and get away from my movies and blog and work out.  I love working out and I stopped a few months ago because life did go a little crazy.  Still, sporadic work outs can only do so much and its time to get back into gear.  Get my mind back to its relatively less stressed mode, be more motivated and get back into shape 🙂

Week 1 is hard because I’m renewing a commitment.  This time, I’m not stopping after a year.  There is no end to working out.  I’m not going to choose to take it off my blog because its getting too versatile and I don’t have time to schedule it in. None of that stuff anymore.  I realized that was a horrible mistake.

I apparently love to start my workout week on Tuesdays.  Don’t know why, I just do.

TUESDAY: Pop Sugar’s The Ultimate 30-Minute Cardio Pilates Workout

The guest coach is a lady who found something called Burn.  Let me tell you, she is not messing with you.  The burn was there from every part of it.  I absolutely hate pulses…I hate it! That burn feels fantastic afterwards but during is just close to unbearable.

By the way, they used 3lbs dumbbells  but I only have one of those so I was stuck with 5lbs. That was REALLY painful!

WEDNESDAY: Tone it Up Yoga

I usually use this yoga flow to recharge between heavier training days.  I haven’t done this one in a while so I figured I’d revisit it  to recharge a little.

SUNDAY: Pumps and Iron’s Workout Mashup

Workout Mashup

This first week restarting this workout thing and committing to it again.  I’m trying to get back to what brought me to really challenge myself.  Pumps and Irons was the blog that I first found in the blogosphere that had some really challenging workouts.  So I went back to this circuit style workout mashup.  Its always been my go-to and I haven’t done it in a long time.

Something about completing workouts like this make me really confident and motivated to workout again.

I’m charged up for next week’s workouts 🙂

Before I go, tradition is that I always put some workout inspiration.

i run because

Replace “run” with “workout” or “train” and thats exactly how I feel.  Work’s been a bitch but when I push myself and succeed, it reminds me that I can still do and feel great.  There is more to life than all that work stress.  It’ll pass eventually 🙂

Reviving an Old Segment: Weekly Workouts!

I took a little bit of time to get this revived mostly because when I do these segments its really to get myself back on track.  Its been hard to even find an ounce of time and energy to.  The last few weeks I’ve managed to get 2 workouts in.  I believe that I’ve gotten myself back into the state of mind.

Winter is coming around.  Holidays are around the corner.  And a whole lot of sitting inside at home is going to happen since outdoors activities happen once the weather gets cooler and colder.

For a reviving workout, I’ll share a few workouts that I may have already shared but some of you are new here, so it’ll be fresh 🙂

I won’t be doing everyday updates on the weekly but rather just workouts I’ve done. Or some things I join in: campaigns or whatnot.

Its been a few weeks of sporadic working out and I’ve actually revisited a few workouts and tried some new ones. Lets get moving! 🙂

1) Pop Sugar’s 30 minutes Capoeira Workout

2) Pop Sugar’s Do-Anywhere Circuit

Popsugar do anywhere circuit

3) Tribesports: The Core Workout

Tribesports The Core Workout

4) Pop Sugar Yoga Workout

5) Pop Sugar Fire Up the Core Circuit Workout

fire up the core circuit workout

I think 5 is enough. Right now, most of these are repeat training ones.  I love the Capoeira one but I always get really close to injuring my shoulder so I know that I need to work on that.  Strengthening my hamstrings and my shoulders are a must at this stage.

I’m looking at some 30 day challenges right now but can’t decide which yet.  I need to get back into the Tribesports community and to get back on track with this working out thing 🙂 So far, I’m balancing between body weights, strength training (with weights), adding some cardio and yoga to balance it all out.  Most of my cardio is from either jogging in place or playing DDR (on higher intensity).  As you can see, PopSugar is my new fave workout site.  It has so many challenging but refreshing workouts.  I hold true that I love the circuit workouts.  Those ones are fantastic: intense and the next day, your body tells you that it was a good one.

challenge change

I’m excited to get back into it.  Consider this a pre-workout segment.  The official first week is right now. Another update on Sunday or Monday  (hopefully, regularly)! 🙂

My Weekly Adventures!

Life is an adventure so anything I do qualifies! So before you start talking about how watching TV isn’t, thats like saying reading a book isn’t. I can pretty much say that there’s a lot of readers who would disagree with you.  We are explorers and we travel to lots of fun places. Maybe you think I’m crazy but I’m not 😉 So to saythat this week is less actually going somewhere but just achieving little things.

Before we move along with this, I’d like to remind or bring to your attention that my Halloween Movie Marathon Poll has been up.  If you haven’t seen it or having voted, please head on over HERE to help me out 🙂 With some earlier planning, I can get more movies seen in October and make it an amazing month, especially with all of your help/recommendations!

1) Dragon’s Den!

dragon's den poster

I absolutely love watching Dragon’s Den.  I skipped a few season in middle but when it first launched, it was one of my favorite shows.  Its really grown to be completely amazing.  Although some pitches are just completely out there, some are really awesome ideas.

The last episode where recapped some of the some deals are usually amazing.  Its all so amazing to see people’s dreams become a reality.

2) Splurging on TV *blush*

A little shameless selfie :)

A little shameless selfie 🙂

I never intend to splurge and I pretty much don’t impulse buy anymore. And I didn’t because I fully planned to go out and get Season 2 of Arrow but then I was thinking, I have to catch up with Vampire Diaries also. Now I’m waiting for Grey’s Anatomy Season 10 to go on special too (but then I didn’t watch Season 9 yet so its not so rushed).  See, I’m still logical, right? 😉

I’m trying to not go too crazy over Arrow so I started watching Vampire Diaries on the weekend.

3) A Productive Weekend Starts….Harvesting Herbs

Vegetable Herb Harvest

Lemongrass, Orange Thyme and Yellow Zucchini

The weather got cold really fast last week and somehow is supposed to get warmer this week again….gradually.  Either way, it was the kick in my butt to speed up the process and let my fatigue take the backseat.  Thursday night activity consisted of going to harvest everything I could while there was still a bit of light before sunset.  Orange Thyme and Lemongrass is currently in the drying process.

4) Bike Support for my Friends

Thanks to my friend who took the picture

Thanks to my friend who took the picture

Oasis Marathon is going to be happening this coming weekend so my friends who are going to do the half marathon along with one doing the 10km and 3 others in for the fun went out for a group jog.  My job was to be bike support for their 17km run.  It included making sure that they were hydrated and giving them directions and scouting out the route ahead.  There were heavy winds and then my bike support broke down near the end because of bike issues.  Note to self, next time make sure to bring tools.  I did manage to bike very slowly home after making sure everyone passed the intersection to head home.  It was a pretty fun day and I biked a whole lot of distance and I was so tired after but I couldn’t let my body slow down because the garden and my house needed me.

5) Transplanting in and out

Garden

Top Left are the transplanted flowers from pots for next year

Between early morning before bike support and coming back afterwards, I got the two flowers at the top left planted into soil.  They should be both perennials viable in my zone.  They were also paired with others so I needed to pot those right away and brought in a few plants as well.

indoor plants

Eucalyptus, Orange Thyme and Citronella Geranium inside

This is only partial because others are by the bay window or in the dining room. Still a lot of transplanting to do this week and then hopefully it will be done…for now. Next is the shopping for spring bulbs and getting those in the ground.

6) Workout room done!

On Saturday, after the run, I went to battle the anniversary sale in Walmart and aside from a bunch of household products, I also ended up getting on special the final touches to our workout room.

Hello workout flooring ;)

Hello workout flooring 😉

Oh right, my boyfriend’s weights.  Mine haven’t been moved yet.  I can’t possibly lift that.  All I can do is roll them across the floor when they are in my way.

7) Making Awesome Ribs

Ribs

I know I’m backtracking, but on Friday night, I sat down after running errands at my place with more moving stuff around and came home to make my ribs.  Ended up eating at around 9:30pm or something but they were so worth it.  I don’t know the measurements but I used soy sauce, smoked paprika, ground pepper, honey, ground coriander, herbes de provence to marinate it.  I did marinate it in the morning and then just popped it in the oven for 1.5 hours in the evening.  They turned out amazingly delicious 🙂

8) Autumn Chrysanthemums

wpid-20140920_084154.jpg wpid-20140920_084149.jpg

Nothing more to say on that.  So beautiful 🙂

9) Hot Pot (aka Chinese Fondue) with my girl friends

wpid-20140921_193022.jpg

One of my girl friends came back from Western Canada to settle a few things so we got together for a hot pot hang out.  There was so much food and it was amazing to chat with the girls.  Its always filled with fun and laughter.  And we’re even going to go see The Maze Runner together this week.  Yay! 🙂

10) Favorite Quote this Week

dark side

It was a tad tiring and busy but it was pretty fun as well.  I’m looking forward to seeing The Maze Runner.  I can actually see the fuzzy finish line in this whole moving business where I’m trying to do it slow and by myself so I can save money, still, its almost there.

How was your week? Tell me about it!

Happy Monday! 🙂

Saguenay, QC: Hiking in Mont-Valins National Park

Day 2 started on a good note.  We were energized and warmed up from the day before and ready to tackle the Mont Valins National Park.  It was about a 45 minute drive or so from the hotel.  We had to first go to the Information Building where we paid our fees and learned a little about the trails to decide where to start and what takes us where.

We finally decided to drive up to the higher trails so that we could benefit from seeing the higher viewpoints and not having to worry about not completing the trail and ending off in the middle of nowhere and having to turn back.  The drive up was the most painful for the car because it was off road and huge slopes.

It was quite a relief when we finally got up there and parked.

Off we go for the hike on the Pic de la Hutte Trail! It crosses over two other trails and includes three viewpoints. The top most one is also the starting point for paragliding and has a breathtaking view.  It makes trekking through this crazy mountain with snakes, birds and frogs worth it.

Hiking is amazing because of getting in touch with nature (even if I’m mega freaked out by snakes). Its also great because its motivating and great exercise.  This time, we were better prepared with snacks and abundance of water so we were able to set a good pace and keep our energy going.  The best part about hiking is going higher and higher up and seeing that absolutely stunning 360 degree view that really nothing can compare.  The reward at the end makes all that hard work feel almost like nothing.

Saguenay Lac Saint Jean region has some of the most beautiful hiking trails that I’ve ever gone on.  Its really a treat and if you are a hiker, I highly recommend it! 🙂

I’ll be wrapping up the Saguenay weekend getaway with the last day events tomorrow! Remember to check back..I promise a lot of cuteness! 🙂

Weekly Photo Challenge: Twist

This week, share a photo of something that says “twist” to you. It might be that perfect ice cream cone, a yummy bit of liquorice, or something unexpected that surprised, shocked, or startled you. – The Daily Post

This weekend, I headed off to Ottawa.  My friend was part of the half marathon for Ottawa’s Race Weekend.  It was my first time spectating an actual marathon so after I made sure my friend had started his. I went off walking around and after snapping a few pictures of Rideau Canal and Parliament Building, I crossed a bunch of spectators cheering incoming runners as they headed into their last leg of the marathon.

Without actually knowing, I ended up standing there for 2 hours and my friend ran by me.  Now, him running by me wasn’t a surprised but some of the other runners did.  The superheroes were also in town running the marathon (half and full). My phone was running out of juice gradually but I was quick enough to capture these two.

Ottawa Race Weekend

Superman was jogging the marathon

Ottawa Half Marathon

Wonder Woman also was there!

Look at Wonder Woman! She’s smiling as after like 15 kilometres of jogging or something.

I couldn’t grab my phone fast enough because I was in awe but Batman was fully dressed and ready to save the world in his cape and mask. Plus, throw in Captain America and Spiderman (and this team) who was not ready but they were more like the two up there.

On the line of movies, there’s is this lovely candy store in Sugar Mountain which is my heaven *ahem*. I love the twists with new flavors for Nerds and Gummies.

Exxcuse me? Surf & Turf Nerds! First time I’ve seen it.  And then move your gaze to the gummies with the white and blue coke bottle. Thats called Frozen Bottle or something and it had the picture of Elsa and Frozen.  Good job at riding the Frozen wave, Sugar Mountain 😉
