My Weekly Adventures #60 Back to Normal & New Blog Announcement

Its March already! What is happening to 2018? Its been just really busy all around, particularly with work which has docked more overtime than I have ever since I started this job, so its kind of crazy. Either way, its taking a toll on energy and it also makes for a more sporadic posting schedule. Of course, we are in the last week of Ultimate 70s Blogathon. If you missed any entries for it, you can find the posts here. We are gearing up for the final entries from myself and Drew to wrap up this year’s blogathon.

With Ultimate 70s Blogathon sorted out, I also would like to say that Valentine’s Marathon is done. I burnt out on the Twilight Saga with Breaking Dawn so I just couldn’t finish it before March. I will however watch and post up the reviews within the next week. I’d like to get that over and done with soon and move on to better things. Here is the updated list of the Valentine’s Marathon roster. I still need to do a little update on it but the links are all there. Its not particularly impressive but its better than last year already. I’ll think of another franchise to watch next year or better prepare for it.

PC update: Operations back to normal!

My PC is back and its pretty much all new except for retaining my 1 year old video card and my very new Blu-ray player. I’ll have a PC rig breakdown over at Game Warp soon. Its something I’m going to work this coming weekend as I edit and compile some new videos for Game Warp so we can get back on track.

At this point, I’ve pretty much sorted out all of the set up stuff and gotten used to where everything is so we’re pretty much back on track. I’m super pumped to get all the postponed posts up over the next few weeks. The backlog on my end is getting a little ridiculous, particularly in the TV Binge category.

Montreal Joue Festival

Montreal Joue Festival

Gaming festivals are coming back! I headed out with my best friend and her boyfriend to the Video Games Festival which is part of the Montreal Joue Festival which pairs up with the Lights Festival which is going on right now in Montreal. There was a lot of games to try out, however, there was also a lot of games I’ve already written about so I’m still trying to figure out if there’s enough to build a post for That Moment In for event coverage. Either way, one of the most interesting things that I saw there was by Gros Joueurs which replicated the Duck Hunt gun into a huge format which is compatible with the actual Dunk Hunt game. I watched a few people play it and everyone had a different strategy on how to make it work for them.

However, if I don’t end up doing an event coverage post for the video game festival, I do want to mention that I recently backed a project shown at the festival which I’ve been chatting with the devs about at different festivals they’ve shown their game. Its called Abyss Crew, which is a multiplayer coop game where each person takes a different role to navigate a steampunk submarine. You can check it out on Kickstarter here if coop games are your cup of tea. I think this is a fantastic idea.

You all know that I don’t talk about Kickstarter projects here frequently, nor am I ever asked to talk about it, so its more just how I’d like to show my support. I was actually thinking of highlighting Kickstarter projects more on the Game Warp Facebook page or in Kickstarter picks in written form. Still pondering those ideas as a side note.

Game Warp Blog is Live

GAMEWARPBLOG.WORDPRESS.COM

Elwood and I have decided to archive our posts that we have over on That Moment In over here. Its still a work in progress to continue updating it with the posts released in 2018 so far, however, there is more than enough posts over there to check out, along with indexes for the games we’ve reviewed. We have all the podcast episodes from intervies to featured and new indie game review shows as well as written reviews and features for retro, mobile and general video games.

With that said, show us some support if you like gaming related articles and go follow us over there! We wanted to keep something here to be able to chat with everyone about games where we can run it on our end. Looking forward to see you all over there!

Its a bit shorter than usual. Forgive me as I’ve been trying to get things back on track.
The only thing I didn’t talk about was my optometrist trip and also my opthamologist check-up today, which is why this post is going up so late.
You know, waiting for my eyes to get back to normal. Good news is my eyes are in perfect health!

My Weekly Adventures #59 Happy Year of the Dog!!

Its Lunar New Year! I used to say Chinese New Year since I’m Chinese and I celebrate the Chinese version of it obviously but we are a very multicultural world now so Lunar New Year includes everyone else that celebrates it. Its the Year of the Dog in the Chinese Zodiac and supposedly, I’m looking at a bit of a better year. Crossing my fingers on that one. Actually, I went all out this year. I didn’t only decorate the house with blessings and other related items but I pulled out the fake flowers and also went out to buy some expensive bouquet (since flowers around where I live is really ugly). I ended up doing a full-on deep cleaning of the house. We are starting fresh, my friends. I know its all superstition and its not like a new year changes all that much but at least I would like to think it will bring some nice things our way. Less problems would be nice. That is really all I am hoping for.

The last two weeks have been a mix of stuff that happened. Some I have talked about and others not so much so lets recap!

Montreal DemoNight 2018

Montreal DemoNight 2018 is an annual event that started with indie game developers supporting each other that has now turned into a public event to go check out some strict 5 minute gameplay presentations of recent or upcoming games. I had the full intention of going to the event but work overtime took over and I ended up catching it via the Twitch stream instead. Of course, we weren’t going to just let the event go so we also did a lovely little recap on That Moment In here. If you haven’t read it, there are some incredibly cool games in development. Can I just say that 2019 is looking like a fantastic year for indie games?

Super Bowl & Cloverfield Paradox

Super Bowl watching is a tradition that my husband got me involved in when we first started dating. Because we don’t actually have antenna or cable, we only ever end up seeing the Super Bowl because it collides with Sunday night dinners with my mom. Due to my husband’s work, he  had missed a lot of the Super Bowls for the last few years but finally, this year, he got to watch it. Since he’s not a Patriots fan, we were cheering for the Eagles and lets just say, it was a pretty fantastic game, especially since the Eagles pulled off some nice touchdowns and then won what I believe is their first Super Bowl (I think I read that somewhere). Anyways, it sure feels nice after 9 years of watching it to finally understand the game and follow.

Anyways, when we did go home, we also realized that Cloverfield Paradox, which happens to be one of my anticipated movies of 2018 is skipping theatres and heading to Netflix right after the game ended, so we hunkered down to get the watched. Why has the review not been posted yet? Well, Valentine’s Marathon is underway and its been a smush of stuff happening that has put everything in delay. It is coming up soon-ish. I have some rather solid thoughts on it. I know there’s relatively low scores for this one and some even question how it all connects in this universe. Let me just say that, whether you like it or not, the Cloverfield movies marketing team sure knows how to drop a movie.

PC issues + update

You can read the post about the PC issues here.

If you didn’t read the post above, in short, my motherboard fried. I guess thats the bad news but then I do still have my cellphone and my husband’s computer to work on for the blog. It is also why, even though things are done slower (which only I would notice), in general everything here still remains fairly functional. Game Warp has been the most affected by this PC failure. With that said, the change from since the post above till now is that, things are moving at a brisk pace to PC recovery. As of last weekend, we were just waiting for one more part to arrive and then my awesome friend will build my computer and hopefully, with some time for setup, we will be up and running next week. Will that happen? I have no idea, but it would be awesome. However, I will try to get the blog stuff done in advance so that I can focus on Game Warp and get things back on track. We still have the remaining Until Dawn playthrough to upload as well as the Year in Review 2017 show with a special guest. It always sucks when the show that gets held up involves someone else.

Either way, things are moving along. 🙂

Remy’s Dilemma Gift

Remy's Dilemma

A week or two ago, I finally read Remy’s Dilemma and wrote up the review. You check it out here.

Much to my surprise, the author Andrew Snook reached out to me on Twitter. He thanked me for the review and told me that Remy’s adventure continues very soon in a sequel to be released later this year. At the same time, he also offered to send me a Remy’s Dilemma gift. Now, I don’t say no to gifts and I was honestly curious what I would get. Plus, I love reading and the book was a pleasant surprise so Remy’s Dilemma has been a constant stream of positive events and that makes me happy.  Let me tell you that the efficiency is incredible as I received my gift last Friday. I probably should have tweeted it sooner…but I forgot.

I’m tagging Andrew Snook to this post so if he reads this: Thank you so very much! I love it!!!

Valentine’s Marathon & Twilight

Valentine’s Day has passed us by. And well, I mentioned it earlier as something I’d considered doing the first time ever and that is to extend the marathon this year. With Ultimate 70’s blogathon being moved up one week and the PC issues, things have been slowing down. I still have a few movies to write up that I saw for the marathon. Since I was going to make Twilight a February highlight franchise, I figured I’ll just make this a lovely romance themed month. I still have a few movies I want to catch up on anyways so it all works out. With that said, welcome to a month of Ultimate 70’s Blogathon alongside an extended Valentine’s Marathon! Hope you all enjoy it!

What have you been up to?

PC Issues…

Hello everyone!

PC Issues is the title of this post. If you have seen my last weekly adventures post, you will know that I’ve been in some PC problems. Until yesterday, its only affected Game Warp. However, yesterday my PC’s motherboard has officially fried, meaning that I can’t turn it on at all. We spent last night, with the help of a fantastic friend looking at our options and it seems we may have found one that is a little closer to our budget. It includes using the functional parts of my current PC and necessary new parts and building an updated computer. With that said, blogging is mostly on my phone, at breaks at work or my husband’s computer. I have a lot of stuff ready to be written so as long as I can get it all down, content shouldn’t be a problem. I honestly find writing on the phone quite annoying but I will work hard keeping things on track.

With that said, I would assume that it will take the next few weeks to get things back to normal.

No worries though. This will not affect the Ultimate 70s Blogathon. It will start as promised next Monday.

With a little bit of better time management, things shouldn’t feel that far behind from before, maybe with a few more mistakes than usual. Valentine’s Marathon will also proceed once I get the next movie watched.

The point of this is to say that if I fall off the map, you will know why. I can’t say that the constant issues over the last year hasn’t gotten me down from health to roof to computers and other setbacks but I am working hard to stay positive and look at the brighter side of things. I have to do that especially when the world has so many bigger problems, it makes me feel guilty to complain about my fairly privileged life (even if a lot of it is in debt).

Rambling starting again so I will stop here. If any irregular posting schedule, I apologize in advance.  It gets worse before it gets better so bear with me as I improve operations and when we get back up and running, hopefully things will be great. 🙂

Meanwhile, I’m working on something else to go up later today!

My Weekly Adventures #58: Announcements, New Ideas and Upcoming Plans!

And we’re back for another weekly adventures! Excited? Don’t be. I’m being honest. I was looking back at the last two weeks and realized I actually have nothing to talk about today as recap. I got sick for one of those weeks which resulted in nothing much getting done and everything falling behind. Then, the past week has been recovering and massive overtime at work causing everything to fall even more behind. I can’t say its been incredibly productive! HOWEVER….don’t like my sassy self get in the way because if we aren’t looking back, we can always talk about some stuff I keep forgetting to talk about or have been on my mind and some new ideas I’m working on plus some upcoming events I’m heading out to and maybe toss in a progress report.

PC Troubles

And the plague of my PC for myself finally happened. I actually forgot to talk about it in my last weekly adventures post. Its has truly hindered the Game Warp side of things. The short version is that the GPU port on my motherboard died so now my graphics card can’t work. With that said, if I want to keep my current rig, then I have to change my motherboard which is apparently older gen so its hard to replace and if I change it, then the CPU needs to ve changed as well along with something else that I can’t remember. The hardest part here is the whole crytocurrency thing is causing everything in the PC anatomy to be overinflated so I have divised a few alternate solutions since the graphics card side of things needs to get up and running. Either way, Tranquil Dreams is not really affected except my frustration over the situation is getting me a little down so I am digging deep for some positivity. First world problems, right? I know. It just feels like a lot of crap this year especially with some things I can’t talk about.

Now with the crappy part out of the way, lets move on to better things…

Ultimate 70s Blogathon

In the last post, I talked about an announcement and it was the Ultimate 70s Blogathon announcement. Me and Drew’s 3rd installment of the Ultimate Decades theme. If you missed it, you can find the post here. There is still time to participate if you are interested. You can find the info here.

Upcoming Video Segments

In the last Meowbox post, I talked about having a break in the unboxing segment temporarily. With that said, I am getting some slow traction every little while so I will continue trying to capture small clips at events but I have decided to bring back permanently the Whats Up Wednesday segment except in a video format so it will be a quick look at what I’m reading, watching and playing and if there is time then I might do quick reviews of what I have finished. It will not be as fleshed out as the reviews I write. I am currently working on the structure of the segment and hopefully will do every other week that weekly adventures doesn’t happen. I’m even debating whether I would want to do it every week but then some weeks are quite slow. With that said, its not going to just be me staring at the camera because I’m not sure I’m that much fun to look at but I’ll add some fun screenshots and videos for stuff if I can. Like I said, still working on the details. I would however love to hear what you think about this idea.

I’m working on maybe doing more videos since I find some zen in video editing lately so its a direction that I’d like to work on more frequently. I think its a good spot to start since I’ve learned that I’m really  not much of a vlogging type as I tend to just sit around and ramble on about nothing much.

Valentine’s Marathon/Torture Fest Take 2

As per our tradition, February calls on the Valentine’s Marathon. For some of you following a little longer, you will know that I go for love and romance but not necessarily romantic comedies all the time. It really depends how I feel. Of course, it was supposed to start today so I’ll try to get something going up today. A few years back, I did a Torture Fest sort of thing where I watched through Nicholas Sparks adaptations. To my surprise, it was not as bad as I expected. But I’m a romantic so I have a fairly high tolerance for it. This year, we’re bringing it back with the very dreaded challenge to watch through the Twilight franchise! Its going to take more than the 14 days till Valentine’s Day but consider it a little side project between the Valentine’s Marathon and Ultimate 70s Blogathon. Ultimate 70s Blogathon will cut the marathon a little short depending on how we schedule things. If you have any movies you’d like me to watch, preferably available on Netflix but then, I owe a lot of movies that I plan on watching if no one suggests anything that I have access to.

A few titles I have right now are: What If, Before We Go, Age of Adaline, Equals, The Vow…all subject to change obviously 😉

Upcoming Events

Events season is just around the corner. With some exhibits that has caught my eye in both Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa, we’re thinking about the game plan. One of these locations are already fairly set. Here’s a general list of events we are looking at:

Montreal: Montreal Joue Festival (February 24), The Art of Animation (ends April 2)

Ottawa: Dreamworks Animation: The Exhibition (ends April 8), Mosaivernales (ends March 4)

Toronto: EGLX (March 9 to 11)

There’s some fun stuff coming around and I’m sure some event or another is slipping my mind.

That’s it for this Weekly Adventures!
Expect some other posts going up maybe later today as I strive to catch up with all the backlog from 2 weeks of falling behind!
