Welcoming Autumn with Mid autumn Festival :)

Nothing much happened this past week but nothing did feel quite right either.  Maybe its the fatigue from the long driving back from the previous weekend away or maybe its just the things at work that aren’t really going my way, I don’t know the reason but it definitely felt so exhausting.  Somehow blogging was one of the few joys I had other than watching a bunch of movies and reviewing them (also blog-related).

What was I up to this week, you ask?

First of all, in Chinese tradition according to the lunar calender, on Thursday was our Mid-Autumn Festival, also called Moon Festival 🙂 My boyfriend’s graveyard shift also meant that I would be passing it pretty much alone as he slept through the evening before work.  I’m okay with that, not complaining. Work is work, right? This gave me time to head out and take some pictures of the beautiful full moon.  I don’t have those kick ass lenses for my DSLR yet so thats the best zoom I have. Still, I’d say, it was a nice night to sit outside and admire the moon.

After that I came back in to eat some moon cakes.  My mom bought me two before she left for her Europe trip.

Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of the second time.  I’m more old-fashioned and like the traditional ones, although I prefer the ones with one yolk 🙂 Have you eaten moon cakes before? They also have one type which is modernized called snowy moon cakes.  I plan on making those one day, along with testing out how to make some moon cake cupcakes.  What do you think?

My mom’s friend also came by and dropped off some moon cakes which resembles snowy moon cakes that she made and they look adorable.

When Friday came by, I was relieved when the day ended and enjoyed a nice meal with some delicious rose wine.

While I was watching lots of movies on the previous weekend, I ended up binge watching and finishing the Season 1 of Under the Dome!

Have you seen Under the Dome? Do you like it? Its totally awesome! 🙂

I’m asking all of you that need skincare! This week’s huge expense was in a matter of 10 minutes.  I’ve been on the low of taking selfies because my skin is flipping out on me so I had to talk to the beauty skincare specialist to suggest what to do which ended up in a 10 minute chat that cost me $120.  *faints*

Those two little bottles…ugh! Lets hope it works, so far it seems to be on the right track 🙂

Today was supposed to be apple picking day but we’ve been having crazy winds so I’m typing this after my baked goods just got out of oven! That recipe will go up on Monday morning :).

This week’s music obsession is from a very awesome local band called Perfect Sideline.  Hope you enjoy!

Its partially in French but its really good and I love the beat!

For some nice Pinterest combination since I didn’t get a post up yesterday! I would love these two baked goods!

How can I leave out cute animal pictures, right?

I can’t believe that Halloween is just coming up in a bit over a month.  My boyfriend’s sister already told us the two possible themes for the party and now its brainstorming on what to do. Some of you know already that I went as Alice last year from Resident Evil: Apocalyse.  I would’ve preferred the 4th or 5th but that getup was a lot harder to find the stuff for.  Any of you having some Halloween parties this year?

On the note of Halloween, I’m drafting up my list of movies for the Halloween marathon.  Originally, I wanted to do a full slasher month, but I figured I’d go crazy after it so I’m going to do a movie of the 6 Halloween movies and then continue on with some horror thrillers.  It’ll be a month of very limited sleep once that second part starts, but hey, it might just be fun 🙂 Plus, I also have jotted down some baked goods with Halloween themes and can’t wait to test them out.  Last year was Glow in the Dark cupcakes and they were a massive hit 🙂

Lots of planning coming along.  The weekend away really recharged my energy for writing so I’m happy to be right back on track! I have a few festivals I want to visit also. October will be a busy month, but first, lets get September over with first, right?

Have a great weekend! I’m back to my chores and making some dinner 🙂

Not an Accident…

Its the long weekend so I figured that I’d do my personal post a bit later since I did give you something similar on Friday 🙂 If you missed that, you could go check it out HERE! Okay, okay, you got me.  I just didn’t sit down and write my personal post, but its because I have so many things I want to talk about and just not sure how to approach it.  Let’s give it shot now, shall we?

This week has really been all about embracing fully the idea of this:

It may come as a shock to you but I’m a really shy person and rarely do I open up to people easily.  This Tuesday, when I was sitting and waiting forever for my mom’s very late Toronto bus to arrive, I met a stranger named Alex and had a pretty decent chat.  Funny enough, we were talking about our jobs and whatnot. The only thing I now know of this person is this video that he told me to check out.

Thats what you do with strangers, right? You don’t start exchanging phone numbers because we didn’t.  Well, I told him about my blog and he said he’d check it out.  Its all about promoting ourselves but hey, Tranquil Dreams has made me very proud, what can I say? So as pointless that meeting a stranger is, we did talk about passions and that made me look at things a little different so definitely not an accident and very purposeful, no matter how short.  I probably need a few more of these types of friends in my life to inspire positive vibes.

So to say, this leads me to do a pretty daring thing on my part.  As its a confirmed deal now, I will be going to Toronto soon and I know a few of you live there.  I had a ton of fun meeting Jonathan in Maine, so I was wondering if any of you would like to meet up.  Just a suggestion and probably would be cool 🙂 Although time-wise will be a bit tricky as after 4 hours of waiting to get in the ticket reservations for TIFF 2013, I finally bought tickets to see both of the movies I wanted to:

Rigor Mortis

The Wind Rises (MIYAZAKI!)

That means I’ll be in town September 13-15th 🙂 Now you know the details.  If you’d like to meet up, drop me an email or leave me a comment and I can contact you :).  I’m a really nice person, I assure you of that! I think its a cool idea but if you don’t, thats alright 🙂 I respect that too!

Now thats out of the way, lets get back to some stuff I’ve seen that I’d like to share.  Yesterday, I went out with my friend for brunch then went for a walk around Quartier Dix30, a suburban shopping/entertainment district and in the newly developed area, we the drums performance.

And its been crazy hot and humid these past few days, so my flowers are all out and about along with lots of bees, wasps and ladybugs 🙂

Hello Ladybug 🙂

Bumblebee! Work hard collecting that pollen!

My garden is still blooming and its so happy to see it 🙂

My mom came home from Toronto earlier this week with some moon cakes.  Midautumn festival is just around the corner and she got some Teochew style Moon cakes which was definitely a new taste and was pretty good 🙂

This is getting a bit long but with events this past week both mentioned and not, I have found some quotes in Pinterest that really wrap up what I think about:

So very true! 🙂

Thats the kind of friend I’d like to be!

Man, do my dreams scare me! I’m on the right track then 🙂

Finally, if only I could do these things and maybe you might want to try it out too.

I have to work #5 and #6 and maybe #4, hmm, and #3!

Still have some work to do to stress less but I totally buy every point, just easier to talk about it than doing it.

Oh right, there is an extension of one more week of movie recommendations to make it a solid 4 weeks.  So remember to check back if you were following that 😉 I’m working on a few already and have a few more movies that I hopefully will get to! And I think its been successful that I’d do it again.  What do you think?

Happy Sunday everyone!!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Culture

Culture is such a broad term.  It does open up so many possibilities.

I was going to post about Montreal Canadiens or hockey culture here because our slogan for the team is “The City Is Hockey”.  Seeing as no one close to me is a hockey fan anymore and I mean a die hard hockey fan, its tough to find shots to take. Maybe I will showcase that on another post later on when I head over to walk around downtown.

Moving on, I’m most familiar with the Chinese culture because I’m emerged in it a lot of the times.  There are so many angles I could take with this. Dragonboat would’ve been in the sport culture angle.  There would be the cultural aspect of traditions and festivals. Today, I’m going to showcase some Chinese food culture.  You all know how much I love food and maybe I’ve talked about these specialties before but still, I like that concept for this challenge.

For breakfast and when we are sick, congee is the way to go!

For lunch, we have dimsum:

BBQ Pork Buns

Steamed Dumplings

And sometimes for lunch, we have nice soup with noodles with delicious fish balls and Chinese radish 🙂

For dinner, we can have hot pot/Chinese fondue to warm us up in cold weather:

Or we can rice any time of day, whether its steamed or sticky rice (my absolute fave) especially with Chinese sausages 🙂

For dessert, we have sweet soup

Sweet Almond Soup with Gingko

One of the most popular (at least in my household) is sweet potato soup

These ones are especially awesome because its with purple sweet potatoes.  These taste absolutely delicious 🙂

During Mid-Autumn Festival, we have dessert of Moon Cakes. These are made with lotus paste and usually have eggs inside.

If you haven’t noticed, whats dessert without some form of glutinous rice in it, right? So I’m going to add on Glutinous rolls.  These ones have mango in them but they were quite good 🙂 Plus, they are covered in coconut shreds!

I love looking at culture when I travel but as much as its extremely fun to look at other cultures and learning about them, being born in Canada makes me feel sometimes there is still so much I haven’t learned about my own origins. It makes it just as exciting of a journey whenever I try something new or see something different related to my own roots 🙂

This is my response to Weekly Photo Challenge: Culture! Have a (deliciously) wonderful Thursday 😉

Where are you, Photo Challenge?

I don’t know where the Weekly Photo Challenge went and I’m guessing it’ll come up eventually…I don’t know.  Its alright, because another awesome fellow blogger, thirdeyemom took the matters into her own hands and gave us a topic–COLOURS.

We definitely need some of that with Fall kicking into gear over here in Montreal.  Its been rainy and gloomy for starters.  Where are you, sun? Where are you, moon? Clouds, can we have a discussion about you moving out of the way?  Its Moon/Mid-autumn Festival today and I’d really like to admire the full moon to fully enjoy the Chinese tradition.

What to do but to add some colors by past photos:

We’ll start this COLOURS theme with the Ottawa Tulip Festival (taken in 2010):

Then we jump over to the Ocean Park in Hong Kong featuring hot air balloons in 2009:

Last I’m bringing you all back home to Montreal at the Biodome for these beautiful colorful parrots from August 2012:

Join into this challenge by linking back to thirdeyemom‘s blog!  A big THANKS to her for doing thinking this up!
