Music Obsessions – March 2018

March is my birthday month, which puts me in a right mood to just share a lot of stuff I’ve been enjoying. I’ve been still in the nostalgic phase where I’m diving into a lot of older music. However, I did end up finding some old music that is new to me and The Voice is back so I’ve been catching up with some music on that front as well. No The Voice contestant has stood out yet to me and performances and such so nothing on this one. Let’s just hop right in!

Medicine – Kelly Clarkson

I really love Kelly  Clarkson. She has a fantastic voice. Its nice to see her as a coash on The Voice this year. There’s been so many great moments. Medicine is so catchy and honestly, its been just on repeat.

Be Ur Man – Alan Kuo

Alan Kuo came back on my radar lately because of TV series OCTB. The TV binge is coming up for that one. I’ve always thought that he’s really good since his first album and he’s definitely improved a ton, even in the maturity of his music and lyrics. This one is a nice fun one.

Justin Timberlake vs. Brittany Spears Mash-Up – Sam Tsui, Madilyn Bailey & Kurt Hugo Schneider

I love mash-ups and Justin Timberlake and Brittany Spears both has some good music. However, this one is pretty fun to listen to. I can’t say a lot of recent music has really been that good so I’m listening back to older music. Yes, it applies to the new Justin Timberlake music that I’ve heard so far (which is like only 2 songs in the album). Go ahead and gasp but its just my opinion, at least for now.

OCTB Main Theme – 大丈夫 (rearranged from 1976 original)

OCTB is my new favorite series that I’ve seen lately. I’ll talk all about it in the upcoming posts. This series was born out of the passion to make Hong Kong film and TV as great as back in the day and was launched for free as a web series then was picked up by Netflix. Just like much of the soundtrack in OCTB, it uses a few older songs. The theme was originally a song from a 1976 movie and is now rearranged and resang by the cast of OCTB and just works so well here and I love it.

House of Cards – KSHMR (feat. Sidnie Tipton)

I’ve already talked about my love for electronic music and KSHMR so this one is not my fave but doesn’t disappoint as always.

That’s it for this Music Obsessions!
Hope you like it!

Music Obsessions [October 2017]

Welcome to October’s Music Obsessions!

The first week of October is pretty much ending. I probably should have been last Sunday’s segment but as you can see, things have been running way ahead of me so its nice to get that extra moment to put this together. Its always a fun time since I’m getting a slight writer’s block. Regardless, I know the horror content has been a little thin the last few days but if everything goes well, there will be a review going up later today as well for a movie that I love so very much even if its made me creeped out also a lot.

We’re here for some music so here’s a few songs I’ve been listening to a ton!

One Day Live Your Life – Thomas Vent

I’ve been playing this game called Beat Fever and its where I found this song. Its super cool although can get a little repetitive at times. However, I do love these glitch funk type of music. Its just so happy whenever it plays. If you didn’t read my review of Beat Fever over at That Moment In, you can check it out HERE.

Wonder Woman – Miriam Yeung

For the HK pop selection, lets go with the recent release of this Miriam Yeung song called Wonder Woman. Its got some fun lyrics and the video is pretty cool. Plus, the song overall is very energetic. Its a great one. A surprising thing I’ve realized is that I can’t get into any newer artists in Hong Kong but these ones that I grew up with are still around and make great music that I can appreciate. 🙂

The Fever – Bassjackers vs Breathe Carolina & Apek

Awesome beat and a fun comic strip style story-based video! The Fever is really great. Plus, I love Bassjackers and Breathe Carolina a ton. They’ve always made awesome electronic music. I’ve been rather particular and this one is just so fantastic.

You’re Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile – Annie (1982) Soundtrack

I reviewed a double feature of Annie of 1982 and 2014 version a week or so ago probably.  You can read it HERE. A lot of stuff here is very much delayed posting. Its what I’ve learned keeps the content going and makes sure that I’ve had time to think things through a little before reviewing. So a few Annie songs from 1982 has been playing on repeat and this one definitely is one that gets played the most. Its just so fun and the segment is adorable. The little girl is so awesome.

Power – Hardwell & KSHMR

Its quite an awesome last few weeks when I not only got new music from Bassjackers and Breathe Carolina and now there’s even Hardwell and KSHMR teaming up to do this new song called Power. They all make such energetic and B-A dance music.

Way Down We Go – Kaleo

So…apparently late to this Kaleo music thing but hey, I found it. Noah Mac sang it at the Blinds for this season of The Voice. He does a great job and it made me want to find the original and this one is my absolute favorite in the last few days! The band and the voice is so unique. They have a few other songs that I’ve liked a lot like No Good and I Can’t Go On Without You. I’ll probably showcase them in later Music Obsessions.

Finally…since I’ve been watching Season 13 of The Voice, and I’ve been liking a ton of the singers. Its an impressive roll right now with Anthony Alexander and Noah Mac really having unique voices however Dave Crosby came to audition and he’s on Adam team. If you don’t remember, Dave Crosby is the one who did the Disney songs with his daughter. He’s really awesome. It would be nice to see a subtly beautiful voice win The Voice. Maybe there has been since I’ve only started watching since last season. So lets end with that since he gets his daughter to perform You’ve Got A Friend in Me upon the judges request and he sings I Will Follow You in the Dark which happens to be one of my favorite songs.

That’s it for this month’s Music Obsessions!
Nothing really horror and scary and that’s why I’m getting a second post up in the afternoon!

Music Obsessions [September 2017]

Welcome back to September’s Music Obsessions!

Its rare to have My Weekly Adventures segment precede this one back to back. With the last month’s personal life taking me for a long time emotional ride, I’ve been drowning in a lot of music. There was a splurge of going back to some of the older stuff I used to listen which is mostly Hong Kong pop from 80’s and 90’s maybe even to early 2000s. Its been a lot of variety from EDM to hip hop to just about everything, making this month a pretty hard one to narrow down. Anyways, here’s the ones I’ve been going back to a lot.

Divination – KSHMR & No Mondays

Its always nice to start off these obsessions with some electronic music. I love KSHMR. They’ve had some incredible music and its fantastic. This one is pretty good also.

Kings and Queens of Summer – Matstubs

I have this feeling that I heard this on the radio but then, I’m not so sure. However, it was an accidental find but I like the beat a lot.

飛 (Fly) – LMF

I’m almost positive that I’ve shared LMF songs some time in the past however, there was a chat recently with my Game Warp co-host that brought about a talk about hip hop music and while Hong Kong hip hop is not a popular thing as there’s only a few selected few that have done well and are actually decent, LMF is the one that I’d like to say brought this genre to Hong Kong. They aren’t together anymore but they made some great music. This one is one of my faves. Once I start, I just listen to it on repeat.

Tout laisser tomber – Raffy

The newest selection on this list goes to the new song by a Quebec artist/group called Raffy. They have very awesome and fun music. This new one is upbeat and positive and I like it a lot. It makes me happy when I listen to it. Can’t really ask for more.

I Do – Karen Mok

Karen Mok has been in some movies here and there and for those more familiar with Hong Kong movies may recognize her especially in some Stephen Chow movies. However, she is also a singer and a pretty unique one at that. I love her voice a lot. This is one of her newer tunes, I believe and the video is super cute. Its great.

Body Like A Back Road – Sam Hunt

I like Sam Hunt a lot. This song has a really nice beat. I’m not so sure about the lyrics but its a fun listen just for the music itself.

That’s it for this month’s Music Obsessions!

Music Obsessions [April 2017]

It’s April everyone! I can’t actually believe it! Can you? These Music Obsessions thing swing by so fast and for possibly the first time this year, I feel like I actually have a bit of music going on right now. Maybe it is because I started watching this season of The Voice and its been a pretty cool experience. There are some nice talent there. I can only hope The Voice won’t disappoint me like American Idol did many many years ago when I decided to just stop.

Enough of this rambling! Let’s check it out!

Make Me Like You – Gwen Stefani

Back to Me – KSHMR & Crossnaders ft. Micky Blue

Beauty and the Beast (Minor Key version) – Chase Holfelder & KHS cover

How Does A Moment Last Forever – Celine Dion

And for The Voice Season 12 performances I’ve enjoyed…

The Voice 2017 Battle – Johnny Hayes vs. Julien Martinez “Hard to Handle”

The Voice 2017 Battle – Jozy Bernadette vs. Troy Ramey “Angel Eyes”

There might be a few more but I’ll end it here. I think its enough music for today! 🙂
Hope you enjoyed it!

What have you been listening to lately?

Music Obsessions [June 2016]

This month’s Music Obsessions definitely were quite a struggle to work out.  There’s been a lot of obsessions but I think these take the front mostly because I just love how fun it is to listen to.  They make me super happy.  Some nice beats and good lyrics and fun times! Not to mention, the YouTube videos are pretty awesome (and entertaining) for most of them also.

Are you ready? Let’s check it out! 🙂

Sweet Love (Calling Out  Your Name) – Bolier

This might be one of the more unexpected choices. Sweet Love grew on me day by day. Its been on my Favorites for a while and one day, I realized that I just started loving it and then played it every evening. The video is hilarious and a little bizarre, but still, absolutely entertaining.

Evolution of Sinatra – Citizen Shade

I raved about Citizen Shade’s talent in last month’s Music Obsessions. While I do enjoy Frank Sinatra, its not my go-to music frequently.  This medley of Frank Sinatra songs by Citizen Shade is all sorts of classy. I love it so much!

Electric Elephants-Jay Hardway

We’re picking back up the pace a little with Electric Elephants. It starts up with a really energetic beat and that’s what caught me to it. I’ve returned in the last few months back to electronic music and I realized that the way it starts is what determines whether it’ll keep me listening. Its probably the most hit and miss genre so props to the DJ/producers that make this work out. There’s been some awesome finds.

Underground Bakery- CastNowski

Also a new discovery for me since the last post or two, CastNowski have had some really strong music. I like the style quite a bit. Definitely someone to look out for!

Heaven [Live Session] – Shaun Frank & KSHMR (feat. Delaney Jane)

Are you ready for my current huge obsession? I don’t like to play favorites but this one just landed two days ago on YouTube for this live session of Heaven. Delaney Jane has such a beautiful voice and then Shaun Frank on piano. I like their original mix but this live session is so great! I’m totally in love with it! 🙂

That’s it for this Music Obsessions!

Music Obsessions: Set It Off, R3HAB & KSHMR, Wintergatan Marble Machine!

Music Obsessions is back to normal programming!

Man, these past few months have been so hard not getting a intermission for Music Obsessions with just whatever music. There’s so much fantastic music that I’ve been listening to on repeat. And it was very much needed since real life (aka work) has gone completely out of control.  Work suddenly went abnormally busy.  Overtime and late week nights has drained me so much. Seeing as the pop music charts have been also super depressing, I’ve been resorting to my trusty Youtube list for some good music. Most of the time, it hasn’t failed me.

I’m done with writing! Enjoy and have fun!  🙂

Set it Off – The Haunting

Easily the song I’m most obsessed with on this list.  The style, the video, the attitude: I love it all so much! 🙂 Try listening (and singing super loud) to this after a long day of work, it gets all that anger out. Haha!

Karate – R3HAB & KSHMR

It seems like KSHMR just popped out of nowhere since the Tiesto collab for Secrets.  In the last few months, a few videos came out and while its rare to find electronic music with the same artist that are great consistently, KSHMR has done that. This and the one a little later in the list are two collabs with R3HAB that are fantastic with great beats!

Set It Off – Duality

I feel like Set it Off music should have a warning on it.  Beware of getting it stuck in your head for days and humming it at the weirdest times. Yeah, Duality pops in my head all the time. Same goes for Ancient History, a little later in the list also 😉

Strong – R3HAB & KSHMR

Set It Off- Ancient History

Finally for some awesome mad music scientist…

WINTERGARTEN -MARBLE MACHINE

If you head over to watch the How It Works videos, its pretty amazing.  While they think its still flawed and lots of work to improve, the concept of putting this together takes huge commitment and to actually make music out of here just blows my mind.

Happy Sunday! Hopefully you’ve all had a fantastic weekend! 🙂

Music Obsessions: All Sorts of Fun!

Good morning (afternoon/evening/night whenever you see this) on this fine Saturday. I’m in a fantastic mood.  Well, I had some long needed phone time with my best friend last night and living on 5 hours of sleep and heading out to check something out, hopefully with some photo time with my camera but before I headed out, I felt like I wanted to share some Music Obsessions!

I don’t know what I’d do without this past week so these songs have been on repeat! Its a mixed basket this time around so maybe you’ll find something you’ll enjoy as well 🙂

Tiesto & KSHMR feat. Vassy – Secrets

This video is awesome, especially because I’m totally into the gaming thing right now.  Arcades, Oculus rift…so awesome.  I wish I could afford the Oculus Rift. It seems like an amazing gaming experience. Plus, the beats and tunes are addictive.  I haven’t been too into a lot of Tiesto’s newer stuff but this collab one is really great 🙂

Dreaming Alone – Against the Current feat Taka from ONE OK ROCK

Against the Current is definitely a force to be reckoned with.  When I first started listening to their music, I wasn’t too sure but the last few originals and covers have been really great.  Plus, ONE OK ROCK (from what I’ve checked out so far) has some pretty decent music as well.  Not exactly my usual music genre but there’s some good music.

Shut Up and Dance – Walk the Moon (Tyler Ward acoustic cover)

Sam Smith – Like I Can (Piano Cover by Corey Gray)

And some bonus Hong Kong nostalgia going on!  Some HK pop from the awesome Dave Wong, originally released in 1988.  Late 80s and early 90s had some of the best music in Hong Kong.  But then, I’m also in this weird Hip Hop phase and checking out one of the few Hip Hop groups (who has disbanded now) called LMF (short for Lazy Mutha Fucka). Either way, I had some peculiar taste in music…haha! There’s some nice beats even without understanding it so check it out if you’d like 🙂

[HK pop] Dave Wong – 幾分傷心幾分癡/Bits of Sadness Bits of Craze

[Hip Hop] LMF – 飛/Fly

[Hip Hop] Edison Chen feat Hanjin/MC Yan/Paisley Wu – War

That’s it for this month’s Music Obsessions! See you all on Monday with my next post! Its gonna be a busy weekend! Plus an announcement coming next week and a good bit of bloggy business to take care of 🙂

Happy Saturday! 🙂
