Week 8: Relieving Stress, Staying in Balance

The last two weeks seemed to have been sickly and then tiring.  To top that off, we come into one of the busiest weeks of the entire year at work.  I had no idea how it would go to be honest.  To top it off, Tone it Up was starting its Bikini Series again which caused it to not give out the Weekly Schedule but rather just Monday workout.  So no plans for the week on Sunday, causing it even harder to actually get anything going.  Lets see if I even manage to get in 4 workouts and we enter into the last indoor practice for dragonboat, I’m not even sure if I can make it this week…but the intention is there.

Monday

Following my writeup on last week’s  workouts, I realized I accomplished more than I had expected and it had tired out my body.  Sunday’s one set along with the full exercise on Saturday caused my lower body to be in immense pain.  I had to take the day off even I remotely wanted to do something on Tuesday.

Tuesday

Bikini Series starts today on Tone It Up.  I originally wasn’t too sure about joining and I’m pretty sure I won’t follow the whole thing since I like to switch it up a little here and there.  However the first workout did look cool. Even if they ask for morning workouts.  I don’t have energy for that… Either way, I decided to put together this week`s workouts on this very day.  Later than usual, but still, I`ll manage to get in a nice workout.

Today`s plan is a body weight workout called No Excuses Workout by PopSugar which I got from Pumps and Iron February Workout Roundup. Here is what it looks like:

OMG! This workout is crazy intense! The first circuit is possibly the hardest and it just smacks you down in pieces by the time you get to 3rd time.  The other 2 circuits aren’t particularly hard if they were done before the first circuit.  Definitely a keeper 🙂 I like to torture myself.  I call it challenging myself!

Wednesday

Seeing as Monday was a break day and this weekend might be crazy. I decided to use today as a workout day also. Plus, the Bikini Series is supposed to be working out every day.  They asked for 2 challenges today.  Challenge 1 is a 45 Cardio.  I don’t jog at night by myself…mostly for safety issues. I decided to the 45 minutes Pumps and Irons remix routine.

Did I ever tell you have much I love Pumps and Iron workouts? Because I do! Her workouts are like intense to the max where I end up cursing in pain and getting all disgusting and sweaty, but you know that its mega effective and efficient 🙂 I know I pushed myself every time after! I hope that she’ll come up with more of these workout DJ-ing! Mashups are fun stuff!

Then I followed through with the Challenge 2 and did Sunkissed Abs Workout from Tone it Up 🙂 Since I didn’t do a complete cardio, I did one set of this workout!

Thursday

Tone it Up workout for today is called Bikini Strap Workout! Normally this is my dragonboat day but overtime at work has caused me to miss out on the last indoor practice.  Sad to see that this is the way I will end dragonboat season.  Hopefully I’ll be able to go back on part time.  Its my motivation to get that certificate done! Back to the Bikini Strap Workout, it was a strength training workout with super sets on mostly the upper body.  It was pretty intense for some of them.

Friday

I had to give myself a day off.  Other than having a long work day, I started coming up with sickness so I spent every moment I could either relaxing, drinking water or going to the washroom to flush out the bad toxins.  It didn’t really feel like I did much but sit around. At least I succeeded in resting, something my body will need for the next 3-4 days of craziness.

Saturday

I had posted about brainwashing failure and how my sickness did not go away causing today to be a horrible day. It did NOT feel great at all. By the end of the day, for various reasons, I wanted to bang my head against the table and just sleep.  I did bang my head against the table, but I did not sleep until later that night.  I took the route of giving my body yet another day to rest and get better. 3rd day off this week, but I think its a good choice.

Sunday

Because if you were following my previous post, you know that it was a fantastic choice.  My massive sore throat went away for the most part and I was super energetic and happy for some weird reason.  The enthusiasm for going into the office on Sunday was a bit abnormal.  Still, I didn’t end up staying for too long…4 hours or so and leaving.  One of the reasons I left early was to go home and prep for my postponed piano lesson and the second reason is for you…however, I am debating whether I want to post about it right now.  You will know about it eventually 🙂  Good news at night was that I managed to get in the workout I wanted.  I did the Friday one below from Tone It Up.

That was one set and it worked the full body and felt pretty awesome.  It didn’t say how many times to do it but I followed up with 2 sets of Itty Bitty Bikini Workout.  I’ve already done this one before and I remember liking it the last time and I still do.

This week was tiring, stressing and all sorts of negative.  I have managed to keep everything in balance and fought through sickness.  I don’t think I completely won the battle as I have a bit of sniffles. It could be worse and so far its been pretty alright. Plus, I got a few things done and I managed to do 4 days of workout so there wasn’t too much slacking off.  I didn’t even go and binge on junk food.  I always give you some fave workouts. This week its a bit harder to recommend but I think I felt the most awesome was Tuesday’s No Excuses Workout and Wednesday’s Pumps and Iron Workout Mashup!

Next week’s Bikini Series workouts are all set out.  I’m going to see if I can fit it all in. 🙂 Although Monday and Tuesday will be slightly tricky…

Week 7: Staying Motivated!

Following Week 6 bad end of week and taking all weekend to pull myself out of that mental rut, working out really helped but my body refused to want to actually get up and do something.  Going into the office on Monday was tough, but work is work and there really isn’t much choice with our HUGE deadline coming up in 2 weeks. The goal this week isn’t anything fancy. Its just with one goal in mind to be able to stay motivated, keeping up the workout intensity and most importantly, no excuses, just do it!

Monday

Day 4 Core Challenge! The abs were ripping and every rep felt like super painful! I only managed to get this done though while I was waiting for dinner while my mom and her friends was making dumpling and congee and all sorts of cool food.

Tuesday

Day 5 of Core Challenge! You already know I’m in pain so I’ll spare you.  After that, I went ahead and did the Tone it Up exercise TLC Workout.  The picture under shows the routine.

I did this circuit for 2 times.  Seeing as I did the Core Challenge already and I didn’t want to overdo it. I gave myself a pass and let the Core challenge count as one set to fulfill the 3 set goal 🙂 It was tiring but felt absolutely good. I wanted to only do 1 set but then I felt bad for slacking off and cutting off overall workouts so much that I pushed myself to do one more time of the circuit!

Wednesday

I had my chiropractor appointment today.  Usually after these, I don’t like to over exert so I just did the Day 6 of my Core Challenge and left it at that! Plus, its been a tough week health-wise so I’m trying to not be too tough on my body…

Thursday

Dragonboat day! And somehow all my track pants decided to vanish on me, thank goodness I found my shorts.  Practice was awesome. it was full training in the paddling pool.  We did the same sequence the whole time over and over again, working on our technique as we swap from lower intensity (aka active rest) to high at around 95% power.  I really felt in the last practice how my training in the last (few) week have helped in building muscular endurance.  After practice, I was exhausted but I made myself do the LAST DAY of the Core Challenge! 🙂 I DID IT! YAY!

Friday

After having an intense week, I took Friday off instead to rest my core a bit.  Most of the workouts I do have to use it, so it seemed wise to let them recuperate a bit.  Plus, I had an early day with the girls on Saturday morning to find a bridesmaid dress and for the bride to be to find her evening gown.  I haven’t done such intense shopping in a long time..so lets see how it goes 🙂

Saturday

Saturday was crazy.  We met up at 9:30am to head to the Plaza St Hubert, which is a street for shopping and dresses and all that cute wedding stuff.  We spent a morning there and then ended up finishing our shopping back on the shore.  Lots of walking! BUT…both me and the bride to be found our dresses! WOOHOO! Despite being extremely burnt out, I felt bad for not working out, so I went ahead and did what I supposed to do yesterday night called Summer Slim Workout.  I repeated this workout 3 times!

Especially after this dress purchase, I cannot lose this.  My body can only slim down and not gain AT ALL! This was pretty good.  “Tipsy” had me really working hard, “Row the Boat!” was painfully hard to control the move without dropping the weights on the floor and “Ultimate Summer Move” gave my hips some bruises..or it felt that way. An alright workout I think 🙂

Sunday

This is usually my day off but seeing as I took Friday off and took it easy on Monday and Wednesday with just the Core Challenge, I had to stick in another workout.  After having doing some physical exertion from taking down the car shelter, I did this Saturday’s workout was this one called Gettin’ Slim without the Gym!

I only managed to do one set before everything started screaming in pain.  I let my body rest.  This week has been intense already with the 7 day Core Challenge and finishing that up.  I realized it was more exhausting than I had imagined.  Still one set is better than none.

Looking back, I ended up only doing one day of complete rest.  This was overworking my body more than I had imagined.  I have to take note to  take it easier when I do my next seven day challenge.  However, it felt good because it means that even through all sorts of fatigue, working out has become a routine.  It actually felt weird when I broke out of the routine and skipped the workout on Friday.  I felt bad for not doing it on Saturday so I did one and pushed through it.  At times, its even helped me to be more energetic afterwards.  Its even helped me with my sleep, which has been lacking in the past while.

Next week is going to be a tricky one, so lets see if I can find the physical energy to workout after the mental energy exerted at work… I’m sure I’ll hold on! Now I have an extra goal… to stay and tone up for the next month till my friend’s wedding 🙂

Week 5: Kicking Things Back Into Routine! Planning out the Week!

After last week slacking off a bit from working out because of other more physically demanding tasks and jobs, this week I had to kick it into gear.  It means no slacking off and eating less and healthier.  So I’m working on setting my week out in advance and hoping to finally find something that will work out even better to fit in all the tasks I’ve been pushing away.

Monday

I had wanted to do the Tone it Up workout but it turns out it only had one move and matched with cardio. Its still raining and mega windy outside so forget about that.  I found this workout as a Tribesports  Challenge called Tone Up Tight Routine. This little workout only took up 16 minutes. Those wall squats are killer painful.

With this out of the way in half of the time I wanted of workouts in a day, I went to go back to the workout I skipped and had originally planned for the weekend but didn’t have the equipment called a ridiculous name called Your Malibooty Workout.  I know I know..laugh ahead 😛 They had some squat ones and seeing as I already did a lot of those in the previous workout, I did only 2 times instead of 3. It felt super good.

Tuesday

Tone it Up had this little intro video for their Self! Drop10  Challenge.  It includes 6 moves and we have to do 3 sets with 12-15 reps per exercise.  I don’t mind doing some of the strength training and I ‘m always down to find something new. Here is the link: http://bcove.me/6r9ihijy

I didn’t expect this too take too long but it was a decent length with some challenging moves plus it was a total body workout.  I had to do lots of stretching afterwards to make sure that nothing would be in pain. As much my balance sucked, I loved the Get Tipsy one. Challenging and fun!

Wednesday

This is my day off and I’m happy with keeping it that way.  I can spend some down time and it opens up time to catch up with work that I want (*ahem* have) to do (like taxes) and of course, an upside is spending time with my boyfriend to watch a movie and chat 🙂

Thursday

Today is supposed to be my dragonboat day but due to some issues, I did not end up going.  I have finally decided that I’m taking a break this summer from dragonboat. I am preparing for two exams and I want to go full force this summer. It was hard but in the end, it will be worth it.

However, I didn’t slack off and made up with intense home workout that took me about 35 minutes to complete from Pumps and Iron.  Her workouts are killer intense all the time, every time I get all disgusting and sweaty. Here is the workout along the left side.  Its called the Medicine Ball Deck of Cards workout.  I totally adore the idea of these cards ones and I’ve tried all of hers already.

I ended it off with the Get Stretched challenge in Tribesports.  I need to get into the habit of stretching afterwards.

Friday

Its been an awesome week full of working out and feeling great.  I scheduled in the Thursday Tone it Up workout.  They are 8 “double duty moves” (as they call it) to tone the body and lose weight, a bit of body weights and some dumb bells. Here is the video if you want to get an intro on how the moves are done.

Saturday

This Saturday marked my first morning jog ever! I never jog outside except before dragonboat practice when we have outdoor practice.  I was totally unprepared and had no idea what to wear. So I underdressed and cursed that my sweat pants did not have pockets.  Why?!?!? Anyways, I did about a 2.5 mile run/jog/speed walk session.  It felt awesome!  And I’m ready to do it again next week with a bit more gear 😉 After that I came back and did the Core Challenge, which I did before.  I have committed to take the 7 day core challenge so I have to do it for 7 days in a row.  So consider that as I talk about next few days exercises 🙂 Even if it overlaps into the next week’s update 🙂

Sunday

Something I did yesterday obviously wasn’t good because Saturday night was immensely bad with chills and sweat all night.  As much as Saturday’s update was the Core Challenge.  This sickness took me full on after lunch and made me sit in bed for 5 hours relaxing with my book, tv series and trying to just stay warm and stop shivering under 3 layers of blankets.  Eventually I did feel better but not good enough for me to want to go do an intense core challenge.  Initiaion will have to begin again on Monday (if my body allows me to) 😉

This week was total epicness though. I like the planning in advance, love the jogging outside (minus catching a cold) and I’m totally loving Tribesports and the challenges.  Tone it up is also giving out some pretty intense workouts.  Before I felt it was challenge moves but a bit short.  The “double duty” moves really kicked some serious butt.  I’m ready for more :)!

I already have a good workout planned for all of next week.  Tone It Up has a lot of workouts next week that I love, so I might do it exactly as is, or just little shifts here and there to accomodate the core challenge and another Tribesports challenge I wanted to take :)!

Week 4: Join a Tribe! Count those Calories!

My Fitness Pal has really driven me to log what I exercise and what I eat daily.  Some days I win, some days I lose on paper.  Still, the goal is there, whether its slow or not.  My end goal is to be healthy and fit, not to lose excruciating amounts of weight. Last week, in the exploration for the Core Challenge, I joined Tribesports without really knowing what it is.   I haven’t managed to join a tribe yet but, its a pretty cool site for taking challenges to stay fit and you can choose to join tribes when are find the right one.  I haven’t yet as I’m still exploring how everything works.

Monday

Tone it Up has started their Drop 10 Challenge and with that, they have these jogging HIIT workouts of some sort.  Seeing  as the weather hasn’t really gotten that much better even though its on its way, I didn’t do what they proposed. Instead, I went to Tribesports and searched up some challenges to take.  First, I did the Sexy Leg Workout:

And then since that only took 15 minutes, I searched for another one and found Abs and Legs Mini Circuit:

Both of these were awesome fun. On the first one, I hate the Wall Squats by the time I did it in the 3rd time. And for the second workout, by the time it was on the last set of leg raises, my legs were hating me for the torture.  I did complete those challenges, so it makes me rather happy 🙂

Tuesday

I had a temporary job day at the Montreal Gift Show doing some sales rep.  It pretty much is standing and strolling a lot since it was a n incredibly slow day.  However, work and workout is different so after cleaning and chores I got in a 30+ minute workout moving up the Tone it Up Wednesday routine to today with some cardio doing mock jump rope (since mine is still unfound) and some body weights in between with a little workout called Jump Your Heart Out.  It was pretty challenging. I mean after the first set of jumping, I gave my legs a break and decided to do some jogging on stop and around the house and jumping up and down the stairs.

Wednesday

This was a crazy day.  I started up at 5:30am and running to pick up my mom from the airport from a red-eye flight from LA after her South America cruise.  Don’t you love her life? And after work, I had to rush off to do the take down for the gift show which ended at 8pm.  My exercise for the evening was 2 hours of lifting and packing 🙂 With ending up eating dinner at almost 9pm, I had to skip the workout or else I would never had gone to bed.

Thursday

Due to work and my weekend getaway with two of my girl friends, I had to cancel dragonboat.  I spent the night burning a CD for the roadtrip, packing, cleaning, running all over the place and sudden last minute to renew my phone plan and get my new phone.  The plan was to sleep at 11:30PM tops…but you know these things never really work out the way it was intended.  So an hour later I hopped into bed.  No work out sadly….in hopes for the weekend to give me some time and energy to workout!

Friday

Woke up at 5:30am. Picked up the girls at 6-ish am.  Waited at the US border for 30 minutes.  Managed early check-in and then ate and shopped and ate and watched TV and ate and then finally slept.  Nope…no workout again! If you count shopping and carrying bought goods as workout, I had a mild one 😉

Saturday

Feeling guilty about running out to eat tacos and drink a (super strong) sangria for a late night snack with the girls, I (always) wake up early at 6:30am so I got around to doing a workout in the divided area in front of the bathroom sink area.  I couldn`t get to do the intended workouts but luckily, there was one special one loaded up on Tone it Up.  It looked relatively easy and it was called Easter Bunny Workout. It was not obviously! I can tell you that I mastered doing jump squats and landing softly since I didn`t want to wake up the girls who were still in dreamland.  The part that hurt the most was the pushups and I think its because of the hard tile floor for one, but pushups are always my weak spot so I have to work on that.

Sunday

Does a morning stroll on the waterfront count (with a cup of green tea and croissant)? How about walking up and down the stairs of an aquarium/museum? I was really hoping to get one in when I got back but seriously, getting back to reality was super tiring.  I did have an evening walk with my boyfriend after dinner.  Come on! Give me a break! Its my birthday and I am one year older now.  I get a free pass on that one 😉

The last week was a slight fail.  I only managed to get in 3 workouts.  I had aimed to have 4, but time really took over my schedule. This coming week will be back to normal.  I know I can make it happen! Last week`s workout was fun though.  Tribe Sports really seems like a fun site to check out with all the challenges.  If you are part of it, add me or something.  I`m still learning about it.  I`m going to postpone a weigh-in because I pigged out on the weekend getaway.

However, it may be less exercises, but this week`s workouts were all efficient and intense.  They were a good balance and I enjoyed every minute of it.  I recommend trying them all out if you want to try something new!

On to a new week and new month, more challenges and staying fit ahead.  March work out to initiate everything was a success for the most part and I feel extremely good physically and mentally.  Its been really helpful and even my chiropractor told me that I should keep it up as it would help my back.

APRIL, HERE I COME!!!

Week 3: Weight Check-in Starts!

Its been two weeks of exercises done, if I can keep this up for a month, I’ll be pretty impressed with myself because that means that I’ll have managed to keep it up and it will continue on for a while longer.  Its actually been pretty fun to try out all these new exercises and its been so helpful in relieving stress.  Slowly my routine is changing to incorporate what I want.  It hasn’t completely managed to reach fitting everything in yet, but I’m sure that with some time, it’ll all balance out.

On Wednesday, I started up my account at My Fitness Pal again.  It’ll help me track what I eat and the approximate of what I’m burning and taking in.  I’m pretty happy with that.  I usually taper off with these things so I’m hoping that with the help of reporting to everyone here as a journal and motivated to keep myself healthy and in the best shape possible, I will be able to stick with it 🙂 What’s good is that actually has the weigh-in to track how I’m doing weight wise.  Although of course, sometimes, before after pictures are the best, but I won’t be doing that here.  Maybe eventually I’ll do that for my computer.

Monday

Sunday was a most intensive exercise than I had thought.  It was awesome and fun but my muscles were still in pain so I gave it a little break and did an hour of DDR instead.  I went on intense mode so it helped me break a sweat and I was trying to catch my breath at the end of each course routine.  I didn’t perform well in the sense of breaking any records in the game or unlocking anything but still, it was efficient.

Tuesday

I did the workout in my room and for the first time, took out my mat for this Tone it up workout. It was supposed to be for Monday but seeing that Tuesday didn’t seem to have anything new except announcing their challenge, which I wasn’t going to participate in, I backtracked a little.  The workout consisted of 8  moves, 12 reps for each (some actually 12, some 12 alternating meaning 6 each side), and then the whole workout done 3 times.  I don’t have a link so here is the intro vid for the moves.

By the 3rd time, I started thinking that these girls over at Tone it Up was out to kill me.  Every muscle was contracted and I sat there downing lots of water.  I wanted to start the second part but to prevent any injuries, I stopped.

Wednesday

This is officially my off day.  Plus, I had chiropractor session and I try to not do any intense exercise afterwards.  However, it is the first day I started logging my food intake and setting my weigh-in.  However, I did end up going downstairs to do 30 minutes of DDR to get some cardio in because with the food/exercise being tracked, I realized I over-ate…It was going to be longer, but then the fire incident happened and that caused everything to be in a frenzy in the neighborhood.

Thursday

Dragonboat day! WOOHOO! Who is excited?!?!? I am! Practice is totally awesome and fun.  We had a full group pretty much and it was doing little exercises increasing in length.  My coach gave me some pointers on my technique to work on and I’ll have to try to figure it out and hopefully get it right.  We did a bunch of body weights and it all was good fun.  Its starting to not bother me as much since I do them 4 other days in the week.  Oh, other than that, my friend might want to do the Color Me Rad 5k marathon.  Anyone done it or seen it? I’m intrigued.  I was going to do it last year, but then it clashed with something else that I had planned.

Friday

I went off the schedule on this day because it was another jogging day. Dragonboat is already cardio from yesterday so I wanted to get some more body weights since we did about accumulated 15 minutes or so of it on Thursday.  Flipping through my saved emails of post after post of workouts, I came to a  Pumps and Irons Online Workout Roundup and found this one: Core Challenge Workout.

Saturday

Plans always change around a bit.  I had to go to work for some overtime in the morning.  After that, it held me up and bumped back my schedule for getting my haircut and then going home to make the cake for my boyfriend’s mom’s birthday gathering. That recipe was posted up this morning, you can check it out HERE! This resulted in me having some alcohol in my system and a whole bunch of food…so it ended up that I had to skip my workout.

Sunday

My boyfriend usually works the weekends, and it was his birthday, but much to my surprise when I carried my tired self out of bed, I realized he was still home and not feeling well.  After taking care of him, my body decided to not do so well.  Thank goodness for my go-to herbal drink (talked about HERE) and after early lunch, Tylenol.  In the mid afternoon, my energy came back and I got in a longer exercise to compensate.  I backtracked to Saturday’s workout called Sunkissed Abs. This ripped my core like crazy.  I ran downstairs and set courses for DDR on Expert and Challenge which didn’t mean that I’d necessarily pass it all but it would be an intense cardio dance routine.  It definitely kept my heart pumping for 30 minutes.

Overall, the week turned out to be more eventful than I had imagined and I didn’t get to do the intended outdoor jog that I wanted because for one, the tempurature plummeted from last week.  The weather is looking up though, so I hope to get more workouts during next week. With Easter weekend coming up, I truly doubt it, but thats for next week’s update 🙂 However, with a mix of extreme DDR and some various workouts, this week, I did manage to get my 5 days in.  It was mostly light cardio in a way but the body weights that I put in really worked me to the max.

If you want to get yourself a challenge, the Core Challenge is super awesome and Tuesday’s with the YouTube video for the 8 moves was fun. Check those out if you want to get a good thorough core and total body workout respectively 🙂

Body Fat Percentage?!?!?

Last week, I told you all that I was going to get hardcore with those workouts and stick to it.  On Monday night, my boyfriend was staying over at my place and introduced me to a new thing that came with his stuff he orders online.  Protein powder or whatnot.  So he showed me these body fat callipers and I knew it would be downhill.  We calculated it all and I came to some mega revelations of how my body fat percentage is a nice few percent above where I should be.  I joked about it all week, but between seeming like it really bothered me, it was working great to be a motivator to eat (even) better and work out hard hard hard! I’d have to say that it did work pretty well 🙂 I said NO! to those Brown Sugar Pop Tarts that were on special at the grocery store…

Monday

Don’t you hate Mondays? I know I do…I’m always extremely tired after this day.  There was two workouts for Tone it up’s Monday.  The first was called Sandcastle Workout.  It was 5 exercises and the whole routine over 3 times.  What I love about Tone it up is that it covers the total body workout.   They ended this one with this ridiculous exercise combining tummy tuck with kickbacks, where first 10 is tummy tuck to the same side of the body and last 5 was doing this tuck to the opposite arm instead.  By end of the 3rd time of this routine, it started hurting.  Of course it doesn’t end there and we have another workout targeting the core called Itty Bitty Bikini. This workout routine actually works well with Friday’s release of Spring Breakers (especially after reading Dan The Man’s review).  I’m guessing in order to look like any of those chicks in that movie, I’d have to do this workout everyday..haha! Those ones had one which made me realize that one side of my core was stronger than the other, since I paddle in dragonboat mostly on my left, my right was way weak when I had to do the Side Plank Lift  (aka Love Handle toner).

Tuesday

Last week I loved their new cardio circuit workout.  This week was supposed to be similar so I was really looking forward to it.  This week, I employed the help of my boyfriend.  Granted, he didn’t do some of the exercises with me as he already worked out earlier in the day, he helped me with this fun workout called Grab a Friend n Go Workout.  Sometimes, these are days I wish I had a sister or I lived with my best friends.  Makes me reminisce those days when my gym buddy was my best friend in university.  Only issue I had was that they put those Hee Haws two days in a row and my quads were in massive pain the next day (and the day after)…Plus, I can’t wait for the weather to get better and I can dig up the skipping rope and do it outside.

Wednesday

After two days of doing these crazy workouts and dragonboat practice on Thursday, I decided to take a break and do some baking instead.  Turns out carrot cake was awesome delicious and a fine treat for rewarding myself for keeping up with the working out 🙂

Thursday

I was so happy to get back into the paddling pool with the team to do some crazy paddling. I decided to work on my right side as a result of Monday’s workout revelation.  I’m that person who fills in on the left and right during the summer paddling season so I felt that it was time to work in some practice on the right side anyways.   I did realize that when I do the right side, I tend to be more flexible in twisting my core than my left.  Still need to get back into the groove of things though, I had to work double hard to catch up with the team’s pace or find the pace again at the minimum…and it felt like I started shortening my strokes.  Does that sound like gibberish? Point is, I need a lot of practices to get better…

Friday

As I decided to paddle on the right instead of the left side, my ass was hurting on the right because it wasn’t used to it.  Imagine sitting…that was painful.  Still, I came home and did the Tone it Up Workout at a freakishly late hour.  My boyfriend kept making fun of the workout name because its called Under the Sea Workout which is oddly separated into two parts so here it is PART 1 & PART 2. But then, he gets to, as he was watching Top Gear Special Challenge : Africa Part 2  while I was working out and obstructing his view here and there.   Some parts of this one was super intense but it was pretty fun to do, imitating sea animals.  I just wonder how people are so creative with these names.  Its really amazing!

Saturday

Unlike last week, I took Saturday off.  One was because I had to go renew my driver’s license (which is so important).  I call it a sick joke, because its the annual fee you need to pay and due to expire on your birthday. So I have to dish out around $90 CAD on top of acknowledging that I’m getting older.  After running some errands and doing some much needed shopping, I came home and by the time my boyfriend got back from work, we realized that we had to head out earlier than expected to his sister’s birthday gathering with family.  Left me with almost no time to actually workout.  Plus, I started feeling sick, so I drank some chinese meds, and did a show and tell of it yesterday and went to rest.

Sunday

I only managed to squeeze in a workout at 10:30 pm.  I did a crazy amount of baking and cooking and even whipped up something special for Saint Patrick’s Day (will be up soon).  By the time everything was done, I also thought it would be nice to switch it up and ended up doing the 16 minute HIIT workout from Pumps and Iron.  It was so fun, even though I didn’t have my medicine ball upstairs so I just balanced on my kettle bell.  I also need to get a slightly heavier kettle bell since I only have a 5lbs and thats pretty light for that exercise.

This week I also managed to get into 5 days of workout.  Still on track with what I want and I feel my muscles tightening up.  My eating habits are slowly changing as I’m choosing healthier options for snacks in particular.  Meals itself are usually already quite nutritious.  This week’s workout highlights have to be Grab a Friend n Go Workout and 16 Minute HIIT workout.

For next week, I should start doing a weight check-in (which I should’ve done in the beginning) and hope to see if it’ll actually drop after this new lifestyle routine.  I also need to find time to get a new bike.  Any bike experts would like to offer me some advice?

Happy Monday!

Building A Balanced Lifestyle

Just to be clear, this isn’t a how-to guide.  I don’t know how to do that, well, I have the general idea.

As you have seen, my life consists of either baking sweets, cooking food or watching movies, at least on the my blog its starting to look like that.  I’m also a traveller but with restricted funds and doing a very average job, these trips are usually once or twice a year along with a few side trips here and there. Aside from all of that and trying to keep healthy, I do dragonboat, as I’ve posted a bit about here and there.  There has been a switch and I’ve felt the need to switch it up this year so I’m training a bit more this year and more consistently so I’m going to do a weekly update as to what I’ve done: Workouts I’ve done as like a way to log my progress.  Maybe some of you would be interested in it.  If you’re not, thats alright if you just brush past it.  However, it is part of my balanced and healthy and stress in balance resolution so anyways, I’ll be posting about healthy workouts as well 🙂 I have sort of introduced it before with DDR (which will have a special post go up soon).

So last week was pretty good for my first week where I’ve committed myself.  For all you people who follow me on twitter, I don’t usually tweet much since I’m still a beginner and the learning process has been slightly slow, I have been checking in with some of the workouts.  This month I decided to follow as closely as possible to the Tone it Up March Calender.  Just a note that you’ll find links to everything that you can reference so click away if you’re interested 🙂

Monday

I got straight to work on last week and tried to check out this interesting HIIT High Intensity Interval Training which was like 15 second of these exercises and I followed their YouTube video.  It was alright and it got my heart rate up so it was cool. Then I did their exact workout called Cowabunga Workout.  My only issue with that was that, seeing as I don’t live down South and I’m not surfing expert, do I need a surf board? I had a pretty hard time trying to get all surf board style on solid ground already. It was the first day and I didn’t want to kill myself yet since after a whole two weeks of constant injury and falls and all, I had been on a lot of resting mode than body weights exercises.

Tuesday

This was the usual day for a new workout on Tone It Up. This week kicked off a new workout for the Wedding series since one of the girls is engaged.  This workout Something Blue was super fun..although it made me wish my backyard and streets weren’t filled with ice and snow and that it was like some crazy cold temperature outside instead of running around my room and up and down stairs like a crazy person.  For once in my life, I’m actually wanting to jog outside…I’m not much of a jogger but this might make me want to do it just a bit more.

Wednesday

I took a break on this day.  It was a must though because I woke up with a stiff neck and couldn’t move it at all.  So I took it easy since the next day I had my dragon boat practice.

Thursday

My neck decided it wasn’t totally ready.  I still went to practice though. I paddled for the warm up and the first exercise segment, then ended up jogging when the rest of the team was paddling and only joining in for the body weights

Friday

I had an early start to the day so I was a bit more tired.  I ended up not following the plan but rather I did a hour or so of DDR to just do get some cardio and it felt awesome!

Saturday

Days off never work out the way I plan it to be but I did manage to squeeze in a workout in the afternoon or late evening, I don’t remember anymore. Its another Tone it Up one that I had saved already but never tried out and they put it in the weekly schedule.  This one is called the Love Your Total Body workout.  It had all sorts of weird names for the exercises but man, it definitely did the job.

Sunday

I was going to work out to make up for Wednesday not working out but since I had managed to get in workout for 5 days of the week, it was alright to take it off.  Plus, I went to do groceries and had to lug them back in with me 😉 And technically playing piano exerts energy too.  Something I definitely should do more.

If you’ve stuck around till now, Thank you! You either love reading whatever I write or you like work outs. My recommendation from last week would have to be either Something Blue or Love Your Total Body.  Those were super awesome and felt great afterwards.  I’m totally charged up for keeping this regularly.

Last week, my work schedule also had a shift in schedule .  I’m trying to shift my schedule a bit so that I can all my stuff tucked into so sort of routine again.  So, with that, you might see my posting schedule a bit scattered and irregular here and there.  I will try to keep this up though because it really helps me keep the positivity around and the stress away 🙂

Happy Monday! And if you have any exercise or workout sites you’d like to recommend, please do! I’m always up to switch things up!

Phoneography Challenge: My Neighborhood

*If you saw another post (for those who have it to their emails) earlier today, I apologize because I was testing out the post by email and there were some technical difficulties 🙂 Hopefully this one gets published again and everything will work out alright!*

The first official phoneography challenge kicks off with the awesome theme of my neighborhood. This morning, in the not so little suburbs of Brossard where I live, about 15 mins from Montreal island by car, it was beautiful. I think it was like 5-8 degrees Celsius. Making it a gorgeous day to run some errands and then after that, I came back and went out for an afternoon stroll for this challenge. By the time, my boyfriend gets off work, I’m not sure if the sun would still be there. Here I am dressed up in my lighter coat, my bag and my tablet and we’re out!

Now lets be on our way to check out my little neighborhood!

I took a walk out of my street onto a bigger street where there is a forest that lines the autoroute in the back. There is also a little section for a park where my mom does her morning exercise with her friends, like Tai Chi. That sort of thing. They have been doing it for like 15 years together..some stay and some move away but they always go to hang out, exercise and chat in the morning. Its pretty cool. Right along this forest is the bike path, as you go along it, its been made nicer to have little pretty lamp posts and then an open area for the bike path stretches throughout Brossard. I usually take my bike in the summer to bike out to downtown too. Man, now I missing summer..lets hope it gets here soon. I’m due to start biking in April once my workout buddy starts training for the marathon 🙂

Here is my quick snapshots of my neighborhood. If you would like to join this challenge, head over HERE!

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend so far!
