MAINE DAY 2: Shopping at Kittery Outlets

**I don’t think I made that clear but I was on vacation last week and this week, I’m filling everyone in. Just in case you missed my vlog from 2 Sundays ago 🙂 **

Day 2 was scheduled to have a drive straight out to Kittery to do some shopping at the outlets on Route 1 and then as we drive back, we would stop at various places to see some nice waterside scenery.

Kittery Outlets

Lake/River running through the Kittery Outlets area!

We headed off in a relaxing manner to Kittery and enjoyed the hour and a half drive or something over from our hotel in South Portland.  I can’t remember the exact length anymore.  It was a pretty awesome day.  The outlets are crazy huge and they had some pretty good deals! Plus, the store selection was total awesome! Under Armour, Adidas, Puma, Reebok, Nike, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, and the list goes on.  They even had Corningware Corelle! This is pretty much what I bought:

My new obsession has been workout clothes and we don’t have Under Armour back home.  At least not just Under Armour, I think! I love my No Regrets Nike shirt 🙂 So motivating! Not shown here is my 16 piece dining set (mugs, small plates, bowls, big plates) from Corningware.  I don’t know who hasn’t used Corningware but we live by these.  I don’t know what they are made of but when I drop a plate, it rebounds off the floor or it shatters in dust like pieces.  Amazing stuff 🙂 I’ll stop doing free promotion.

Lunch was fast food at Burger King (which was probably a bad idea) but I did get to see and use these cool soft drink stations! If anywhere else in Canada has this, excuse my weirdness but I haven’t seen these in Montreal yet!

Electronic Soft Drinks Machine

Call me crazy but we don’t have this in Montreal at fast food chains…

After lunch, lets just say, our plans were changed because I started feeling really sick some time a and it was possibly one of the most stressful and painful experiences.  Let’s say, I wish Kittery had more abundant restrooms, instead of one in every outlet regardless of how huge it was.  We were parked back at the very beginning about 4 huge blocks away so I tried to soldier on as much as I could and walked really slowly.

I have never been more happy to get in the car.  Suffice to say, we didn’t do any stops.  We did do a few detours and see some scenery when I wasn’t resting from not feeling well.  After resting a bit at the hotel, we decided it was good to eat in so we went off to Walmart and both my boyfriend and I both bought what we wanted to make our dinner at the hotel.  Delicious canned chicken soup! YUMMY! while watching some Food Network!

BY THE WAY, I forgot to mention it for the Day 1 activities but when we got home from Les Miserables, I got to watch True Blood episode ON TV! Not streaming on a little screen but actually on TV.  Oh right, in case you don’t know, I use rabbit ears so I get *counting on fingers* 5 channels or something like that.

When I’m away from home, my night activities is exploring whats on cable TV.  haha!

DAY 2  didn’t seem to have a lot of events but I did have a lot of fun shopping with my boyfriend (while it lasted) who actually shopped more than he usually would. It always makes me happy to know that I’m not dragging him to shop.  It may not have gone as we planned but we did spend a lot of quality time together and that’s vacation is about, right?

I was almost 80% better by the next morning after having some instant oatmeal so remember to check back to see my DAY 3 tomorrow! 🙂

Strawberry Rhubarb Pie!

This week’s star is rhubarb! I love rhubarb to bits! Right now, my garden has one plant of it and its growing like mad. Its probably from all the rainfall that has fallen in the past 2 weeks…NOW, I’m in emergency baking mode.  My mom has put down orders to get rid of ’em all this coming week!

First up had to be my first trial for a Strawberry Rhubarb Pie! Who else loves it? Because I am obsessed with the store-bought ones…of course, its always more natural to make it at home.  PLUS, I had a pie shell that needed to be used for baking.  Usually, I’d make my own but hey, lets take it easy for once…especially since I’m owing another blogger a recipe to go up that has to be postponed just a little bit while I get rid of the rhubarb.  Next week, it’ll be all about chocolate..but today, it’ll have to be about rhubarb!

I usually venture onto Martha Stewart‘s site to find some recipes but her site (at least on my tablet, haven’t checked on my laptop) is ridiculous to understand how to make the damn recipe so I gave up and googled it which led to a recipe on the Food Network! C’mon, that’s gotta be sure fire, right?

For the recipe, you can find it right here:

Strawberry Rhubarb Pie topped with Ice Cream

Topped with Ice Cream!

We all had rather different opinions on this pie actually.  My boyfriend started it off and ate it without the crumble topping and thought it was SUPER SOUR! With the crumble and after a few bites, he slowly adapted to it.  Because he said that, I went off to the freezer and topped mine off with a scope of Maple flavored Soy based Ice Cream.  I found it still a little sour but when you eat it as a whole experience, it tasted pretty good.  Rhubarb is supposed to be a bit more sour in taste so, it makes sense.  My mom was the only one who said that it wasn’t sour and she said that she liked the fact that it was just the crumble topping that felt like it was sugary to balance the taste.

Other than that, the texture turned out great plus, it looks and smells awesome! I might still search up another recipe or modify this one a little bit the next time I make it. In the meantime, I’m going to search up what to make with the rest of the rhubarb.

Last year, I made it some Baked Rhubarb (HERE), Rhubarb Crisp (HERE) and Strawberry Rhubarb Crumb Bars (HERE) which were all quite delish! Check it out if you’re interested! 🙂

Any suggestions for what else I could make?

Restaurant Review: El Cortijo at Burlington, Vermont

After a long night, we were all exhausted and got back to shower and rest at 7:30pm at the hotel room.  Not much of a partying group, eh? Well, after everyone was sitting in bed at 9pm, we turned on the TV and landed on the Food Network. It was at the show called Diners, Drive-ins and Dives (or something like that) hosted by Guy Fieri.  We are now forever glaring at this Guy Fieri, something like a love-hate relationship.  My friend started craving all the food she saw him showing on the show at the different joints he visited.  It was then we started searching up the restaurants to see which ones were open.

We eventually ended up jumping out of beds and changing quickly and heading out to get ourselves some tacos at El Cortijo.  On Fridays, this little restaurant is open till 1am.  Which worked perfectly for us 🙂

Here’s a little bit of the menu!

First up we ordered some drinks.  I went with my craving for Sangria and got a red one.  The girls decided to get a margarita.  One chose Pomegranate Margarita while the other one chose an orange flavored one.  I only got my own in pictures though.

I’m telling you this.  If you go to places and you suspect people are diluting your drinks and giving you more fizzy soda or fruit juice than actual red wine, this place is for you.  Mr. Bartender at El Cortijo made this drink in the way that all I really tasted was the red wine.  The girls also had high alcohol content in their margaritas and started getting a tad tipsy by the end, which made for a lot of laughing loudly.  We all learned that we are all happy drunks, if ever we did get to that point.

So did decide to have a light late night snack and took the solo tacos which is just one taco pretty much. The girls eventually took another one because it was going to help the margaritas sit better and get a bit of the tipsy feeling away.

I ordered the Chicken one and had to remove one of the ingredients but I think its alright. It was a pretty tasty taco although this one proved to be way messy with the sauce leaking as we were eating it.  Gotta work on those taco eating skills 😉

After sitting for an hour or so, we had to leave.  Suffice to say that Burlington downtown and Montreal downtown is very different at midnight.  This is what it looks like in Burlington!

Night in Burlington Downtown

Night in Burlington Downtown

Empty streets! 😮 Montreal is add packed with people to this scene and less space to walk and there you go.  Granted this place, had a lot of pubs and clubs and bars that had a lot of people inside and loud music blaring and a few people standing outside.  I like the different atmosphere 🙂 Plus those lights are just so pretty!

What do you like to have for late night snacks? What do you crave for in the middle of the night?
