Music Obsessions – June 2019

Music Obsessions (2)

Its the first weekend of a new month and that means time for this month’s Music Obsessions! Its been a fun and colorful month to say the least. There was a lot of music that I discovered and some new artists that I’m following.

Hot Blood – KALEO

Its been a while since I’ve listened to Kaleo. I love their style a lot and it was when I went to Brasserie Elements (recap HERE) that I heard this song and it is really awesome. It was then that I introduced my husband to Kaleo (at least the songs that I had already known) and then we went on to look for some other songs as well to dive further into their work.

你,好不好? How Have You Been? – Eric Zhou 周興哲

While I’ve known of Eric Zhou for a while in the Chinese music industry, I haven’t really heard much from him however this song was picked as a performance vocal song list in Produce Camp 2019 so I went to listen to the original and have been absolutely in love with it. The lyrics and the tune itself is really good.

工筆 – Awaken-F

The newest song from Awaken-F is really good. It has that ancient Chinese music instruments sort of usage but also keeps it very soothing and energetic. I like this stuff every once in a while and to be honest, I can see this as part of some TV series set in ancient China soundtrack.

作為怪物 As A Monster- 李宇春 Chris Lee x 吳青峰 Qing Feng Wu

My favorite song and the most recent release in this batch of music obsession. This one has all the elements that I love. I had never listened to Chris Lee before but I’m definitely sold on her voice. Its really unique and matching with Qing Feng Wu’s voice, it works so well and they have similar styles in their music. Its more indie but this one is so fun and addictive.

Where Do You  Go – Shaun Frank (feat. Lexy Panterra)

It feels like a while since I’ve shared some electronic music but I like Shaun Frank’s music ever since I heard Heaven so I was intrigued right away. This one didn’t disappoint at all. I like the video and I like the energy of the song in general.

FIREMAN – Produce Camp 2019 Original Production Performance

And a little extra bit..since I don’t usually share anything from these variety competition show things except as little ending pieces. However, in their specialty performances which was separated in dance, vocal and original production categories, one of the two teams doing original production not only completed a completely original song but also managed to deliver a great performance called Fireman. Really talented! I like this song a ton.

That’s it for this Music Obsessions!

Music Obsessions – September 2018

Music Obsession

Another month has gone by in 2018! Time for the monthly dose of music obsessions! A lot of random spontaneity this time around!

Lie A Little Better – Lucy Hale

If you did catch up with my last What’s Up episode, I talked about revisiting Pretty Little Liars. Which isn’t weird because as I was putting together posts and searching up some names and whatnot for Pretty Little Liars, I came across an article about Lucy Hale talking about how she wrote this song with Drew Van Acker on her mind which for those who don’t know plays a role in Pretty Little Liars and is a gorgeous guy who she has some romance/connection with and well, I personally ship them super hard. Either way, since I hadn’t heard this song or any of Lucy Hale’s songs, I decided to give it a go. Its not the best country music I’ve heard but I think its a cute and fun one. Its growing on me quite a bit.

Dear God – Hunter Hayes

I’m a huge fan of Hunter Hayes and its been a few years since he’s had music (or so it would seem for myself) but this year has seen him popping up again. I love the lyrics and the rhythm of this song as a whole. Really good stuff!

Spark – F.I.R.

If you follow me the Facebook page (you can check it out here), I wrote an extensive post about this one. The Outsiders was a breakout hit for Taiwanese TV series like maybe 10+ years ago and saw the rising of some big Taiwanese stars who went on to make some other movies and progress in their career paths with Blue Lan (I reviewed Easy Fortune Happy Life series HERE) and Dylan Kuo for starters and then also gave the rising of this 3 person rock band called F.I.R. They are honestly the real deal with great vocals and amazing composition talent for all their songs. Unfortunately, it almost felt like their fame came as quick as it left sadly. But now, its nice to see a revival of sorts for The Outsiders in movie form  and they got back F.I.R. to do the main theme song called Spark. I love it so much and have to find some way to see this movie eventually!

我在呢 (I’m Here) – Tank

A complete coincidence that we land on back to back songs for TV series. I’ve actually never heard of this one (as I don’t follow it as much as I did when I was in CEGEP (our 2 years between high school and university)). Tank doesn’t seem to make so much music anymore but I’ve always loved his stuff so I love the fact that this one is a slower, more romantic song and I still like it a lot. Reason being, I’m usually more captivated by his faster songs.

Rumors – R3HAB & Sofia Carson

Freshly released selection right here! Rumors was released this week. If you’ve been following this segment, you know that I love R3HAB. He is a great DJ producer or whatever you call it. It took a little moment to get used to Sofia Carson’s vocals here however, it kind of grew on me as the beat and rhythm went along and it just jived together awesomely.

Tribute to my Dad
Classic Cantonese Pop

80s Canto Pop is really awesome. Well, look past the really cheesy music videos, they still hold so much beauty in both the music and lyrics together. Lisa Wang is a significant pillar in the Hong Kong landscape and she’s done some great music. This is honestly just an example. Either way, if my dad was alive, he’d be celebrating his birthday tomorrow and while I’ve dialed back on getting these posts too personal, I’ve been thinking about things a lot and really wanted to share one of the many 80s classic songs that we used to listen to on car rides and that I still love to listen to and sing to every once in a while. I mean, I could’ve used Cantonese Opera but I’m sparing everyone a long video and their eardrums especially if you aren’t accustomed to it.

That’s it for this Music Obsessions!

Music Obsessions – June 2018

Music Obsessions

Welcome to the June 2018 Music Obsessions!

Its been quite the month. There’s been a whole assortment of music that I’ve been listening to. Hopefully, you will enjoy it! 🙂

Done For Me – Charlie Puth (feat. Kehlani)

Somehow Charlie Puth seems to have a formula for catchy songs. The lyrics are actually quite similar in most of the time, its about some form of unloyal woman or breakup or broken/toxic relationships. Whatever it is, with pop music, I tend to listen to it for the fun beats than for the lyrics. Done For Me is a pretty fun one. Actually, my husband and I are pretty hooked on it so what can I say? We seem to can’t break out of Charlie Puth Top 40 songs.

Give It Up – Mike Williams

Now, this new Mike Williams video and music of Give It Up is a fun one. It  has some awesome beats and really gives this fun summer vibe. There are very specific songs that have the formula to match a season and this one definitely gives off those wonderful vibes and it makes me super happy to listen to.

愛死你 Love You to Death – Karen Mok (feat Alan Kuo)

I’m positive that I’ve talked about Karen Mok before but this lady is spectacular. I mean, she’s done some great work in Stephen Chow films but her singing talent and her voice is just so unique. Hence why there are two selections here because they are two very different style. This one is hardcore and is with Alan Kuo. And the second one…

If You Love Me, Raise Your Hand – Karen Mok

The second one here is fun and jazzy, full of saxophones and positive energy. I’ve actually been singing and humming this a lot. Actually, the other day I caught myself moving along with the lyrics here which is about raising your left hand and raising your right hand and nodding. Luckily, it wasn’t somewhere public so didn’t quite make a fool out of myself.

我們的愛沒有錯 Our Love Is Never Wrong – 胡夏 Fox Hu

Talk about an accidental find. I was just looking for something, probably Leehom Wang or Karen Mok or the songs from TV series Miss Rose (which I’ll post about soon) and then ended up seeing this one. And its turned out pretty cool and has me wanting to look for this series. I actually have never watched a Chinese TV series (Taiwanese is not the same thing). They  have a lot of them on Netflix and I’m going to one day. But if you do want to get a really authentic experience, their historical TV dramas are fantastic. And I don’t like reading about history much so it shows how great its done. Anyways, this song is really great especially because it seems like it would be a sad song but they give this change in tempo after the first bit and gives a nice upbeat feeling and I guess hope for this love he is singing about.

Music Obsessions [July 2016]

Its July! This past month didn’t have all that much music to work with and honestly, these songs were constantly on repeat because there was nothing else that peaked my interest and these are fantastic in quality and creativity! 🙂

Let’s go!

Lose Control – Hedley

If you asked me 2004 when Jacob Hoggard was in Canadian Idol, I’d say that he was good but not something I’d listen to everyday but in the last few years, Hedley has truly captured my heart. From Crazy For You to Heaven in my Headlights to Hello and now Lose Control, I’m just in love. Its fun and energetic! There’s some charm and charisma going on there that I just can’t resist!

Candyman (with 50,000 M&Ms) – KHS & Citizen Shade (Cover)

This is kind of like a cover video for the 75th Anniversary for M&M’s. The original was by Zedd and Aloe Blacc. While I think that one is fun and upbeat, this one is just so unique. Plus, I already mentioned it before but I love Citizen Shade. The singer’s voice is so awesome!

Delirious Army (Animated Music Video) – The Spaceman Chaos

Okay…call me a nerd or geek or whatever. I admit it! I mean, c’mon, I’m not only a blogger but also a gamer now that I’m a half of Game Warp.

A few years ago, I started watching gaming videos on YouTube. Its been a sort of entertainment that keeps me going. There are my favorites and one of the guys with the best laughs is H2O Delirious. No one knows what he looks like and it doesn’t even matter because I don’t think his laugh as ever not made my day. Especially when he pairs up with his friend Cartoonz or like recently, they did a video of Dead by Daylight with Ohmwrecker and Bryce Games and that was like the epitome of fun because its like all the guys with the best laughs in one place. Point is, this song is really catchy for his subscribers aka the Delirious Army. I listen to it a lot!

Singing Hit Songs from 2000 to 2016 – Michael Constantino (on Kiss 108FM)

That is some talent! And this is super fun! Imagine remembering the lyrics on the go! I just wish that I could listen to Kiss 108FM but I’m not in USA so no access. We need some creative guys here who can pull it off on our radio. There has to be something fun.

Groovy George – Mike Williams & Justin Mylo

I can’t wrap things up without a little electronic music! Amp up the energy with some groovy beats! This one definitely fits the bill! 🙂

That’s it for this Music Obsessions!
Slim pickings, my friends! For what it is, these are all pretty great quality music! That is what counts!
