Music Obsessions – December 2018

Music Obsessions

A bit of a change this December. While I usually have this month’s Music Obsessions completely dedicated to holiday music but I decided to do a separate post for it closer to Christmas since I have some other stuff I’ve been listening to. So here we are!

Like a Boss – KURA

We’re back to some more hardcore music than the last two months. KURA’s latest track is absolutely catchy and I’m loving it so much.

謝霆鋒 Nicholas Tse – 青空 Clear Sky

I’ve been a fan of Nicholas Tse’s since a long time. While he hasn’t been doing much in the past few years, its nice to see that the past year or so, he has been getting back to his roots and making some really meaningful stuff. This song gives tribute to Hong Kong. Its absolutely fantastic.

Pin Zhou 周品 – Angels & Demons 天使與惡魔

All Out of Love has ended as this post goes up. A little near the end was when we started looking back at another plot line and that is when this song showed up. I honestly think its a great song on how its performed and the lyrics and just everything about it.

一笑傾城 – Love O2O Main Theme

Netflix just picked up Love O2O, which is a 2016 Chinese TV series which I binged in the most epic way. Its fun and awesome and sweet and just all the best adjectives I have of it. With that said, the soundtrack is also fantastic. This one is awesome and is sung by a few of the supporting actors and its so fun and matches the TV series tone so much.

Tangled Love – Theway Zhang [An Oriental Odyssey Opening Theme]

Hands down my obsession for the second half of November in terms of TV series. I usually avoid TV series set in ancient China unless it has some historical drama value because those ones done by China is really good and mostly accurate, except for a few dramatization. However, this one is based on a fantasy novel. As you all know by now, my TV series are chosen based on some kind of link of the previous TV series that I watched so I started to watch this because its main lead (who I never thought was the main lead since his parts are fairly sparse) Yecheng Zheng that I liked in Love O2O as a supporting role is here. Its pretty lighthearted and quirky for the most part.

This wraps up this month’s Music Obsessions!
Before we hit 2019, look out for the music obsessions special for Christmas Music soon-ish!

Music Obsessions [January 2018]

Happy 2018!

January 2018 is here and we’re taking a look at what music has been on repeat over here! The beginning always gives a very hyped up and exciting time and with that, there’s some pretty upbeat stuff going on here to kick off the year full of motivation and positive vibes.

Let’s go!

Perfect – Ed Sheeran (with Andrea Bocelli)

If Perfect was really awesome enough, this one is absolute perfection. Its so beautiful and romantic. Andrea Bocelli is fantastic and the video even is fun to watch because you can watch how much Ed Sheeran is mesmerized by Andrea Bocelli also.

Special – Ryan Blyth X After 6 feat. Luther Soul

I do a lot of electronic music catching up over the holidays when they have the best of the year mixes. I found this one in the Spinnin’ Records 2017 Mix. Its a 2 or 3 hours show so there was a few songs that I liked quite a bit. It’ll probably pop up in this post. This one has got to be my favorite though.

Fogo – Garmiani (feat. Julimar Santos)

I love Latin music which I normally associate with Zumba. If I wasn’t so lazy, I’d go back to Zumba class so this sort of music infused with Latin music influence gets me all pumped up. Its fun and upbeat and just notches up the energy so much.

Hit the Road Jack – Throttle

Catchy and fun version of this song. My reasons can sometimes be very simple.

絲路 Silkroad of Love – Fish Leong

In my university days, Fish Leong was my constant companion. She’s such a talented singer and this is definitely one of her best songs. Something during this holidays made me really want to get back to the music that I listened to.

Finally the little additional bit…

This is a snippet of the Young and Dangerous Concert in Hong Kong in 2015 (I think). Anyways, this snippet was when the group sang to their wives and Jordan Chan’s part with his wife is absolutely adorable. Actually the entire part is pretty fantastic but then I’m biased because I thought the concert was pretty awesome in its entirety and that has to do with Ekin Cheng being one of my fave actor and singer in Hong Kong. Something I’m working on doing this year is to not only review Young and Dangerous franchise but also Ekin Cheng’s filmography.

That’s it for this Music Obsessions!
What music are you listening to lately?

Music Obsessions & Something Else [September 2016]

Can you believe it? September is here! That means autumn is just around the corner!

I’m falling away from the Sunday posts for these music obsessions but I think it fits well for kickstarting a Friday as well! When I started this post, I couldn’t really think of music that has really been impacting me this past month. I’ve been gaming or binging TV series instead of watching movies or listening to music. It is really my fault. Maybe there will be less selections, or maybe not. You’ll see right now! 🙂

We’ll add a little extra with one  other videos that I’ve loved watching over and over again!

CLOSER – The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey – Sam Tsui, Kirsten Collins, Lia Kim, KHS (Cover)

Fireflies – Bassjackers ft. Luciana

Graveyard – Kura

This Time – Lea Michele (Glee Final Season)

I Lived – Glee (Glee Final Season)

and the little extra bit..with lots of magic!

I guess this posts shows that I’ve just finished binge watching Glee Final Season! If things are on track, the post should’ve gone up earlier this week but no guarantees since as I’m typing up this one, its not done yet 😉 Also, I just love that magic show on the channel Sam and Niko. Plus, I also love their main channel, Corridor Digital. These guys put out some of the most entertaining and creative videos.

What songs have you been listening to on repeat?

Music Obsessions [June 2016]

This month’s Music Obsessions definitely were quite a struggle to work out.  There’s been a lot of obsessions but I think these take the front mostly because I just love how fun it is to listen to.  They make me super happy.  Some nice beats and good lyrics and fun times! Not to mention, the YouTube videos are pretty awesome (and entertaining) for most of them also.

Are you ready? Let’s check it out! 🙂

Sweet Love (Calling Out  Your Name) – Bolier

This might be one of the more unexpected choices. Sweet Love grew on me day by day. Its been on my Favorites for a while and one day, I realized that I just started loving it and then played it every evening. The video is hilarious and a little bizarre, but still, absolutely entertaining.

Evolution of Sinatra – Citizen Shade

I raved about Citizen Shade’s talent in last month’s Music Obsessions. While I do enjoy Frank Sinatra, its not my go-to music frequently.  This medley of Frank Sinatra songs by Citizen Shade is all sorts of classy. I love it so much!

Electric Elephants-Jay Hardway

We’re picking back up the pace a little with Electric Elephants. It starts up with a really energetic beat and that’s what caught me to it. I’ve returned in the last few months back to electronic music and I realized that the way it starts is what determines whether it’ll keep me listening. Its probably the most hit and miss genre so props to the DJ/producers that make this work out. There’s been some awesome finds.

Underground Bakery- CastNowski

Also a new discovery for me since the last post or two, CastNowski have had some really strong music. I like the style quite a bit. Definitely someone to look out for!

Heaven [Live Session] – Shaun Frank & KSHMR (feat. Delaney Jane)

Are you ready for my current huge obsession? I don’t like to play favorites but this one just landed two days ago on YouTube for this live session of Heaven. Delaney Jane has such a beautiful voice and then Shaun Frank on piano. I like their original mix but this live session is so great! I’m totally in love with it! 🙂

That’s it for this Music Obsessions!

Steve’s Music Mix: What Am I On…?

I’ve been doing Steve’s Music Mix for a few weeks now.  I’m sure a lot of you already know how it works.

In a nutshell, Steve at Steve Says… chooses three questions and we put our music players (IPod, MP3, etc) on shuffle and we say the questions and whatever song it lands on, thats the answer to that question.

Got it?

Lets see if my MP3 is being cooperative this week, shall we? 😉

I’m on…?

–>A Dream – Common

I’m always dreaming, so I guess thats right.  I’m working on a dream as well and aiming to fulfill my dreams.  Most days, I feel like I’m on a dream.

*Confused yet? If that made no sense, its the cold meds, ok?*

I’m in…?

–>Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You) – Kelly Clarkson

If you look at the context of the song, no, I’m not in a breakup and recovering.  Or maybe if you look at my job, I guess I’m in that phase right now: what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. I guess that works.

I’m over…?

–>In The Dark – Tiesto ft. Christian Burns

I’m pretty sure I’m still mildly scared of the dark but I guess, I could take it that I’m over needing someone to be with me in the dark? Or maybe, just that I’m over the life I had when I was obsessed with this song because that caused a lot more bad than good, although I still love it but in a completely different way 😉

The answers are stretching it a little this time but I’ve had a less cooperative MP3 player before so I’m going to be content that it didn’t go completely nonsensical on me.

Lose My Mind…

Stress is hanging around in my little world.  Not in dreamland these days, I tell you this much. Thinking about it, my body is so exhausted I don’t even dream anymore.

BUT, you know what? Its Friday and Chinese New Year weekend.  I have some great stuff planned to do even though I still have to go into for some overtime tomorrow.

Let me just say, music is my power source now.  Half a day gone, half a day to go, snow is raging everywhere outside and who knows how buses will be when I leave work at 5:30pm..but this song has taken over me and its on repeat in my MP3.  Although I have the a bit more hardcore Radio Edit version.

Electronic music gives me that peace of mind when I’m stressed. Sometimes, just sometimes but depends on my mood.  Music also has the power of allowing us to relate to it: the lyrics, the title draw us into it.

Am I saying that I’m losing my mind? Or maybe I’m trying to prevent myself from that.

Whatever the reason, this song is my source of energy for this snowy Friday 🙂 Hope you enjoy it and TGIF!!!

Just another note, I love Sebastian Ingrosso.  Awesome music from him! 🙂
