Unboxing: Meowbox [September 2017]

Happy Friday, my lovelies!

A surprise Meowbox unboxing today! Earlier this week, I received this September box which I didn’t order since mine is due for next month. After contacting customer service to make sure I didn’t have someone else’s box, they explained the situation. Long story short, this turned into a little gift for us. A lovely gesture even if it was an error that caused it. However, I appreciate a ton. Next box will still come as planned but we have this one in the meantime. More unboxing vids! That makes me happy!

Hope you enjoyed it!

My Weekly Adventures #48

Its been a month since our last update! Honestly, the last one would’ve been just pure Fantasia Festival recap. I was going to put together a Top 5 or 10 films of Fantasia that I saw but after one recording, I just wasn’t happy with it so ended up putting that to the side. I still want to do something more for Fantasia Festival. Just giving it a little time to cool down as I catch up with some outstanding posts. Regardless, that is my own housekeeping and I won’t bore you further with it. On the note of housekeeping, the indexes for both books and movies are updated till the beginning of August so if you are looking for anything, you’ll find it there. I’ll work on restructuring that a little more by the end of the year.

Without further ado, let’s see what went on this past month! 🙂

Fantasia International Film Festival

Its obvious that the first thing to talk about is Fantasia Festival. It took most of July and overlapped the last My Weekly Adventures. Here’s some of the photos that I took from the Q&As. I did more recording than pictures. I’m thinking of compiling something out of it but working on that. Maybe it’ll be too late when I finally get around to it. However, you can find Fantasia movie reviews both in the Movies section or the drop down to Fantasia Festival, which will queue up all the last 15 posts or something about it.

If you look back at the Fantasia Festival movie list before I started (this post HERE), a good 40% of it probably had changed for many reasons. However, the original plan was around 15 movies and I watched about 14 and had an extra post for the short films. Things worked out quite well, I’d say. I will however get the Top 5 or 10 films list done soon. As I’m writing this, it feels necessary to give it a final wrap-up even if its late.

What made Fantasia Festival even better, other than the press pass was having my best friend join me for a day and my husband join me for two movies for back to back weekend date nights. I’d say this event coverage was pretty awesome! 🙂

New Blinds & Decoration

Seeing as I managed to spare some normal expenses in July, I decided to achieve the 2017 goals of changing our kitchen curtains which were lacy white curtains to actual blinds. After some discussion, we got the dark brown bamboo blinds and they are fantastic and match our color scheme perfectly. We just forgot to get a small one for the door but we will live. However, on our trip to Bouclair (a home decor chain in Quebec), I found this darling decoration on top. In case you haven’t realized, I love the word dream so one more thing to add to the den as I slowly transform it into my little world.

Sessions 375 x Ile Soniq

sessions 375 x ile soniq

August is like the music festival month. The first weekend kicks off with Osheaga Festival and then last weekend was Ile Soniq. For those who don’t know, I’m like electronic music quite a bit. I’ve been listening to it and honestly as the years gone by, I’ve become more selective. I’ve always wanted to go to Ile Soniq but never really had the chance, mostly because I don’t want to go to these events by myself. However, Phoebe (aka The Starry Traveler & my co-host of Battle of Ingredients, which will return from hiatus very soon) dropped me a message and said that there was a free event in celebration of the Montreal 375th birthday called Sessions 375 x Ile Soniq En Ville. I met up with her at a midpoint and headed there with her and her bun bun. She has the goal of exposing her little one to all kinds of stuff so we didn’t go into the event grounds because of long line-ups and crowds and safety purposes but we watched and listened from afar and it was good enough for us.

The evening ended with a meal and I’ll be sharing a post on that soon. We have two foodie posts coming up. 🙂

Matsuri Japon Festival & Brossard Cultural Fest

J-Dog

Imadake

Matsuri

Takoyaki

Every year, Matsuri Japon Festival and Brossard Cultural Fest lands on the same day so as usual, my friends and I head out to these events. First stop for lunch is Matsuri and we shared all those foods and my friend had some noodles also, which is not here. The day was incredibly local showers since we were in and out of rain and seriously one patch would have rain and the other would not.

Brossard Cultural Fest

Brossard Cultural Fest

Next up at Brossard Cultural Fest! We just made a little walk around, had a natural juice popstick and then got rained on a little and then left for home. There were some cute bouncy inflatable things every where for the kids and it was so awesome. My fave was the giant T-Rex but there was also a huge tiger, etc. Super cool stuff!

Game Warp – Instagram Fun

Not sure if I had mentioned it before but Game Warp Podcast has a Instagram. We mostly share random gaming stuff that we come across and hope to expand our platform a little more. Earlier this month, we decided to do a little social experiment, thought up by my fantastic co-host to see if we took selfies and held some random gaming stuff, we could get some more views. We ended having quite some fun with it and I’m thinking of doing that again. Mine turned out pretty good, which is so rare so I even changed a few of my profile pic to this one.

Yes, I know shameless promotion again! You got it! If you have Instagram, go and give us a follow! 🙂

Sorry for the tiny delay in getting this one done. It was intended to go up faster but you know, time and schedule is always an issue. Point is: its here! This month’s Meowbox is very much summery and my cat is loving it so far.

That’s it for the Meowbox!
Thanks so much for watching!

My Weekly Adventures # 47

My Weekly Adventures

We are halfway through July and at another Weekly Adventures update!

As you may have noticed in the last update, I was on vacation and it overlapped one week into this time. I can’t say that I did a whole lot or went out a lot but I did end up doing one stupid thing, a few cool things to share, small achievements here and there and if you follow me on letterboxd, then you know that I watched a ton of movies that I haven’t reviewed yet. In hindsight, that wasn’t such a great idea because of what is happening now, which if you don’t know, I’ll update you here as well.

Let’s go!

Vacation: New Brunswick & Prince Edward Island

We took a 4 day vacation overlapping Canada Day. It was rainy and a lot of driving but a lot of fun and incredibly beautiful. The scenery was breathtaking. You check out the 4 days recap below:

Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4

Marche Publiques at Place Ville Marie

I met up with my Battle of Ingredients co-host, Phoebe from Starry Traveler’s Road and her bun bun to go check out this public market at Place Ville Marie. There were a good few local businesses selling fresh foods, drinks and snacks. There was a lot of choices. Phoebe picked up some bread and macarons. We got some lemonade. I picked up some spiced nuts and gluten and lactose free oat bars.

Haircut…Finally!

With the encouragement of Phoebe’s company, we both went to get a haircut. It was the final push that got me to my hairdresser after around 15 months. My hair is thick so it was heavy and fell down to my butt. Definitely a record and why I didn’t have the heart to cut it for so long. Anyways, its done and sure feels good to have such light hair again.

Montreal Comiccon 2017

Game Warp’s first press badge and it is fantastic to have it and cover Montreal Comiccon. It was a tiring weekend. Luckily, I strategically overlapped my vacation so that I would be well-rested.

You can read the recaps over at That Moment In and other posts here.

Fantasia Festival 2017

Tranquil Dreams first press pass! I’ve covered Fantasia the last 3 to 4 years out of my own expenses (much like everything here) however, I decided to give it a shot. Why not, right? What have I got to lose? Nothing. So here we are! My badge is with me and I’m typing this Weekly Adventures as I wait for a film to start. While I don’t have vacation for this, I am trying to work in about 15 movies, adding in screeners and such, it might turn out to be quite crazy! Bear with me if things get out of hand. If movies aren’t your thing, regular programming resumes after this. I will try to keep things versatile but I honestly can’t promise anything.

Thats it for this Weekly Adventures!

My Weekly Adventures #42

Welcome to the next My Weekly Adventures! The last two weeks have been busy. But you all already know that. It was full of irregular posting schedules and just a hectic crazy real life work issues and responsibilities and truly zapped all the energy I had. I did end up spending more time on editing for Game Warp and gaming streams and the likes. I did end up doing a What’s Up post and another day off post that covered those. However, a few others things did happen and of course, there is one particular thing I’m not very pleased that I haven’t got around to doing. It was always a little expected that I wouldn’t since every year is the same deal around this time.

Lets check out the last two weeks!

Easter Breakfast with Family

Normally we don’t do much for Easter. It is just another day off to spend with family and do nothing at home and relax. That sort of thing. My husband also took the week off so we had time as well. If the weather was better, we may have looked into somewhere to hike. However, my sister in law invited us and my in laws over for a family breakfast and man was there a lot of food. It was delicious!

Game Warp Streams

I was debating whether to add this in and then I quickly realized that my last two weeks was a lot of Game Warp recording and streams. In fact, I may have found the schedule that works for my schedule. It has been hard to find a consistent one but perhaps I have. We now do commentary when we play or interact with the viewers since we set up the mic so its a fun time if you drop by for first look at games or want to cheer me on as I am a fairly unskilled gamer.

The last two Tuesdays were launch day streams, I played Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series Episode 1 and Pinstripe, a game that I backed on Kickstarter last year. Still wrapping up Pinstripe this week.

As for Twitch schedule for myself: Tuesday nights at 10pm to Midnight EST & Saturday (most probably 3 to 5pm EST). All official announcements are made on our Facebook page here.

A Lot of TV Binges and Movies!

Aside from a lot of working, I did do quite a bit of playing. Not just games but movies and TV series. I have so many binges to write up, it is a little unreal. However, in general, I just haven’t felt like writing because I was so exhausted from work. TV binge posts for The Neighborhood and Girlboss are coming up. I might start doing double features for movies and only keep fleshed out longer reviews for movies I saw in theatres. Or in general new releases, since Netflix Originals tends to be a thing now and I rent from the Play store a few times a year when there is a good deal. Regardless, I’m also watching a Taiwanese TV series right now which I might dive more into. I feel like I’ve neglected international and particularly Asian cinema since I started the blog and got into movies because it feels like no one really cares too much about it. However, I care about it. So its time for me to do this in order to stay motivated.

Upcoming: EVERYTHING!!! Game of catch-up here 🙂

That wraps up My Weekly Adventures!
I know its a tad short but trust me when I say that once today is over, I’ll be back on my game!

Unboxing: Meowbox [April 2017]

Welcome everyone!

Finally, the next unboxing is here! Its going to be really slow in the unboxing department this year. I only have two quarterly subscriptions left with Meowbox and FabFitFun! Today is the arrival of the April 2017 Meowbox and there’s quite a few goodies and one particularly rather interesting item. Followed by some play time with my cat at the end of the footage. Hope you enjoy! 🙂

Thanks for watching! 🙂

My Weekly Adventures #40

The incredibly work-related April is upon us! April always is the month that murders us at my work, so if it gets a little sporadic in the next few weeks, I apologize in advance. However, it has been a whirlwind of busy for the first quarter of 2017. However, everything’s been going pretty great. I love being a workaholic especially if it means working with a ton of great people and getting to do all the things I love. The last two weeks of March has been pretty awesome. I did manage to just get in those new segments despite being a little backtracked by the trip I took to Toronto. In fact this is where I’ll start this Weekly Adventures segment!

Toronto ComiCon (with Drew’s Movie Reviews)

Toronto

For the second year in a row, I went down to Toronto and met up with Drew, my fantastic blogathon co-host for the Toronto ComiCon weekend. We jam-packed our schedule with tons of panels and went to a party and even found time to eat some good food and visit a beautiful touristic attraction, Casa Loma. You can find the recap for ComiCon here, Casa Loma here and the Toronto haul here.

On that note, one of my prints are already framed! I’ll be framing the other two in the few weeks. Our office is going to look awesome! 🙂

2017 Parks Canada Discovery Pass

More geared towards my fellow Canadian readers, to celebrate 150th birthday of Canada, Parks Canada has offered up the Discovery pass which allows free access to National Parks along with some other centers and whatnot. You can find all the info on the Parks Canada site. I ordered this pass a few weeks ago and got it in the mail some time before or after the Toronto trip and we’re super excited to plan out some more hiking day trips this summer especially since we managed to pick up another set of hiking poles for myself also. We will eventually have to change the hiking boots soon but we’re still looking for a good pair. On that note, if any of you in Ontario or fellow Quebec residing bloggers or have visited and hiked, do tell us where you suggest.

Course Update: Guitar & Photography

Both the courses ended this week! At this point, I’m done with the Guitar course final assignment (yay! and why this is going up later) and preparing for the final assignment for Photography, continuing after this goes up. I did have to work overtime to play catch up. One of the few things I’ve realized happen when I lose a weekend to going away. I think it also is because I don’t own a laptop anymore and when I’m away, I don’t feel like working on my phone as much so its really just watching TV and relaxing, which is a good thing. Actually, it was very refreshing to recharge even if it took a while to recuperate. Does that make sense? I was tired but more motivated to write. Anyways, point is, courses are over and hopefully these great time management skills I’ve used this past month (for the most part) will stick around.

One New Segment FINALLY Live!

Battle of Ingredients

In case you missed it, my team-up with Phoebe of Starry Traveler’s Road for this new segment, Battle of Ingredients is finally live! If you missed it, you can find it HERE! We started simple but we’re going to be doing a hopefully monthly deal with this. Planning time to meet up and gathering up friends and then coming up with recipes all take time between our own work, blogging duties for myself and parental duties for Phoebe makes it all so hard to make this more frequent. However, I am quite pleased with how the post turned out. Hopefully you all are and will enjoy it.

Learning a New Tools: Canva

Would you look at the image for Battle of Ingredients? I actually learned about Canva a little while ago but I’m truly enjoying working with it to build simple images and giving the blog a more professional header image for various segments. I have one for Music Obsessions coming up tomorrow and working on one for the new segment. Also, I’m trying to get something together for the actual blog header.

Birthday Month

March is THE birthday month of our family. My in-laws and my husband and even myself has birthdays in the second half of March. My birthday was yesterday and I turned 31. It was a pretty calm day which is always great. There were a few a little things that bothered me for a short while but overall, it was pretty relaxing and efficient, which is great. My husband and I will celebrate this weekend by going to a movie, Ghost in the Shell, which I’ll probably have the review ready for Monday.

Upcoming:

  • New Youtube project
  • Ghost in the Shell review & more
