Music Obsessions – A 90’s Special [March 2017]

Can you believe its March already? 2017  has been a whirlwind of busy and stupid and crazy! As energy-less as I’ve been from everything, I’ve actually been also pretty motivated and upbeat despite all the health problems. I went through a few music phases and some even involved diving into old 70s Hong Kong music. The classic beauties that I loved because although I’m a mid 80’s baby, my dad would play these songs in the car all the time and they were just so great.

However, Ultimate 90’s Blogathon is going on right now and we’re heading into our final week tomorrow. We just can’t help but be into the 90’s mood. And while I haven’t been obsessing over these songs right now. I’ve been obsessing over these songs every year here and there because I grew up with them and they are just awesome songs! If a lot of these (or ALL) are in Chinese, I’m sorry…I grew up with mostly Hong Kong pop as a child so…let’s start the decade!

1990 : 失戀 (Lovelorn) – Grasshopper

對你愛不完 (Give You Neverending Love) – Aaron Kwok

1991

每天愛你多一些 (Love You More Everyday) – Jacky Cheung

一起走過的日子 (The Days Together)- Andy Lau (Theme Song of Casino Raiders 2)

1992: 情人知己 (Lover Soulmate) – Sally Yeh

1993: 火熱動感 La La La – Edmund Leung, Andy Hui, Aaron Kwok, Sammi Cheng

1994:

從不喜歡孤單一個 (Never Like Being Alone)- William So & Angela Pang

其實你心裡有沒有我 (Does Your Heart Have Me)- Andy Hui & Sammi Cheng

1995: 離開以後 (After I Left You) – Jacky Cheung

1995:

1996: 打開天空 (Open the Sky)- Daniel Chan, Kelly Chen, Ray Chan

1997: 但願你知道  (Hoping You Knew)- Ekin Cheng

1998: 大激想 – Miriam Yeung, Edmund Leung, Eason Chan

1998:

1999: 非走不可 (Can’t Not Leave) – Nicholas Tse

I started becoming very cantopop music aware in 1998 and 1999 so while there is only a few choices, there easily could have been more. It felt a bit like picking my favorite child. Which is actually pretty true because in that high school phase, there was a lot of teenage crap and stupidity going on. Music was a big part of my getting through it all. While there are tons of other better choices in some of these years, I wanted to cover a lot of the artists that I liked: Sammi Cheng, Andy Hui, Nicholas Tse, Andy Lau, Jacky Cheung, Ekin Cheng, Edmund Leung, Grasshoppers.  And some of these dances in the videos were iconic, like 1990’s Aaron Kwok one. I’m missing an awesome band called Beyond but I’ve highlighted them before and I’m sure I will eventually again. Still when I was in the 90’s, there was also a ton of stuff like Backstreet Boys and N Sync. Oh, and I also love Janet Jackson’s Together Again.  So I guess it wouldn’t be fair to end this without at least something from N Sync.

Tearin’ Up My Heart – ‘N Sync

After bombarding you with a ton of music and if you made it this far, a round of applause and tons of gratitude from me to you!
You just had a slice of my life and music that I run back to every once in a while.
What 90’s song(s) do you love?
