I’ve been talking about being a bridesmaids at my friend’s wedding for the past month over abundantly. I was extremely honored to have the opportunity to be a bridesmaids for her. Its hard to come by friends after we get out of high school or college and we met at my old workplace and we’ve all kept in touch since then. Its been a an amazing 5 years of friendship and honestly sometimes, these girls (the bride and the other bridesmaids) know more about my life than even my best friends. Its something remarkable in my mind and I confide in them so I was extremely happy to just be part of this and help out as best I could.
Just a note that the bride has specifically asked me and everyone else taking pictures to not blog/facebook about the wedding pictures with guests and herself and the groom so other than myself, I am off limits to everyone else.
We did the whole planning of the games between me and the other “sisters” (aka bridesmaids) and helped arrange it as it came for the groom and his groomsmen when they arrived to pick up the bride. It started with the red envelope bargain and then we hoped into some funny games for not compensating us enough. He had to prove that he was worthy with his love, his strength, courage, dancing skills, design, etc. Time definitely flew by. Of course, we tried to keep it all on schedule, which it was luckily with little switching around.
After picking up the bride, we had to all move to the groom’s family to do their tea ceremony first. Its Chinese tradition to do the tea ceremony and its the right way to do it at both the bride’s and groom’s family’s house. It made for some commuting but it was well worth the experience.
For lunch at noon, the bride’s mom and her friends arranged a HUGE potluck for everyone and it was amazing. There was one dish that almost burned my tongue and it was so spicy I just couldn’t handle it even being in my mouth and I gulped down probably half a bottle of water afterwards. Everything else was super delicious. 🙂
We also managed to sit and chat for a bit before the bouquet toss and heading over to the couple’s house for the actual ceremony with the celebrant and to wrap up some decorations before the actual ceremony.
After the ceremony, we had time for some photo shooting and for the bride to change into her evening dress. Then, we were off to dinner at Gibby’s, a restaurant in Old Montreal. At Gibby’s, we managed to split the money we got from the red envelope bargain.
We had personalized wedding menus which was mega cool!
Now, I know you all are excited as to what I ordered and its a huge meal that I felt like I was bursting out of my dress at the end of the night!
That was my friend’s wedding night! But before I let you go, maybe you’d like to see how satisfied I am with the turnout of me as a bridesmaids in a wonderful lilac dress 🙂
I’m rather pleased with it but still, its a good motivator now for working even harder 🙂
The wedding went great and it was a fantastic day!!! I wish my friend and her husband all the best in their future life and lots and lots of happiness!
Did anyone poop in the street?????????????

Is that a new thing? “Please don’t load pictures to Facebook or blogs?” Is it because they wanted to be in control of which photographs are presented to the “general public”? Or…? From my wedding, some of the best photographs were those taken by our friends… we didn’t care if they shared them…

I think its just to not publicize pictures and to keep it personal. I respect that they want it private. I usually ask my friends before posting any of their pics on the blog 🙂 I don’t really post anything to Facebook anymore..not really trusting of it..since apparently anything you post in FB is owned by FB…so thats not too cool…

I guess I can sort of understand wanting to keep it private (one of the reasons we had a small wedding). I guess the thought just wouldn’t have ever crossed my mind to ask people not to post their pictures. Then again… I’m not on FB, so don’t really care about what goes on there because it never comes back to me, and if any of my friends or family have blogs (besides me) I don’t know about them… perhaps ignorance is bliss?

It was a small wedding actually and I think that was the only way that it was possible to ask people to not post, since we had one of the bridesmaid’s sister to help out for photos and other times, it was the bridesmaids doing it also..haha. So easier to control 😉
Ignorance is bliss for this 🙂

Great post! I know it’s sooo stereotypical for girls to like these things…but vicariously living through other people’s weddings is something I reluctantly admit to loving…haha. The Chinese takeout boxes for the favors is pretty cute, I’ve never seen that before. Congrats on being a bridesmaid! Was it very hectic? One of my friends was the maid of honor for her sister’s traditional Chinese wedding, and it sounded soooo crazy. They got up at 4am to do hair and make up, since they needed to squeeze in the games at the door, tea ceremonies, and worst of all, a 1.5 hour commute from the bride’s house to the groom’s house!
So…when’s this bridesmaid going to become the bride…? 😉

I really love seeing weddings and although this is technically my second time as bridesmaids, its the first time that I got to really be involved and help out with everything. It was really fun and because it was a small wedding, everything was simple. It went pretty smoothly. Of course there always is some things that happen here and there but we dealt with it and it all worked out fine 🙂
As for that last question, you can ask the boyfriend that question..haha! Since he’s the one that hasn’t proposed yet 😉

Hi Kim! I honestly can’t thank you enough for everything that you did for us! I feel extremely blessed to have a friend like you. Even though I have known you for “only” five years, it feels like we’ve been friends for much longer! BTW, I love the pictures that you took! So that’s how my hair looked like from the back!!!
